There is so much beauty in the messy, perfectly undone wave. They are effortless and cool and usually hard to achieve. The perfect wave usually rolls in after about ten days of no hair washing and gallons of dry shampoo. It always happens that the best looks are the ones that look like you did not try hard at all. Whether you are walking the red carpet, or hanging out at the beach, these waves are always the perfect look We chatted with a few celebrity stylists and got them to share their tips and tricks on how to achieve the perfect beachy wave on any hair texture and style.
You definitely do not want perfect definition in beach waves. Embrace the undone and shaggy look with a flat iron. Start at the root of your hair and go down to the tip, alternate your flat iron from right to left and create a small bend. Once the hair has cooled down take a comb and comb through the waves for an effortless look.
Grab a handful of your gorgeous waves and pull them up into a high ponytail. Once the top is in a high pony, you will need the T3 Single Pass Wave Iron to make waves in the sections of hair. Don’t worry about curling all of the hair since the key to this style is to avoid uniformity. If you really want to copy Rihanna’s signature look, slick back those baby hairs which Rihanna always gets perfectly placed.
Chrissy’s signature red carpet style seems to be her shiny perfectly tousled waves. Jen Atkin, a celebrity stylist, says that the trick to this look is to spray hair with wave spray (she loves OUAI Wave Spray) and use duckbill clips to make dents in your hair. Push the hair up and clip it in place while pushing the hair underneath it up. Clip all of your hair into place until your whole head is clipped up and your hair has an S pattern. You can let that dry naturally or blow dry for a speedier process. Take the clips out and voila! You will have the perfect beach wave!
Bella Hadid’s Waves Speak Volumes
For people with naturally thin or fine hair like Bella Hadid, you can use beach waves to imitate the look of volume. For this trick, after washing, lather the hair in R+Co Sail Soft Wave Spray. This will give life to dull limp hair. Form the waves in your hair by hand and dry it with a diffuser.
Zendaya’s Pony
Waves and sleekness unite in this look by Zendaya. Her slicked low pony is also filled with texture adding a unique element to her style. To get this look you will need tons of hairspray. Tease the hair in the pony to textured perfection.
Lucy Boynton’s Blunt Bob
Lucy Boynton’s blunt bob proves that beachy waves can look effortless and chic in any hair length. Her waves are perfectly textured making this style extra cool. To achieve this look, get your hands on TRESemmé Beauty Full Volume Hair Mousse for volume and a soft hold.
Emily Ratajkowski’s Baby Bangs
To recreate Emily’s style, blow dry your hair and then take sections of your hair and clamp it with a flatiron. Move the iron back and forth as you bring the iron down the hair. Finish it off with some good hairspray to keep your style in place, but still touchable.
Lana Condor’s Piece-y Bob With A Pop of Color
Lana Condor added some purple clip-in hair extensions to her bob, which makes this style really fun! Her bob has soft waves that add shape to her look. Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray add the perfect shine.
Kate Mara’s Short Waves
Cool Girl Kate Mara proves that beach waves are not only for long hair. She edged up her heavy bangs and short hair with these lifted waves. To add extra volume, spray IGK Beach Club Texture Spray on your hair. This will also add a nice shine, but no crunch!
Gabrielle Union’s Defined Waves
These waves are a bit different than the others we shared here. Gabrielle has a tight defined texture to her waves. Her waves will last for a few days, though, getting messier and looser as the days pass. To get this look, divide your hair into sections and use the Bed Head Curlipop Tourmaline Ceramic Tapered Styling Iron to get this textured s-shaped wave.
Shay Mitchell’s Windswept Look
If you want a lot of texture without having to use heat, try twisting your hair, doing braids or a loose twisted bun. This method will take some experimenting as you figure out exactly what works best with your texture. Run some Devacurl Wave Maker Texture Whip through your hair before you braid or twist. Sleep with the braid or twist and when you wake up, you will have perfect natural waves!
Kristen Stewart’s Choppy Bob
Grab some hair Pomade and use it to slick one side of your hair down. Fluff up the other side with messy waves for that super cute, undone Kristen Stewart look.
