Here we have singer Dev and DJ Sourmilk posing for a photo before getting onstage to perform at the 2012 “MTV Spring Break” show. Dev got famous through a video of her singing that a friend posted on MySpace back in 1999, and DJ Sourmilk had his claim to fame through independent tracks on SoundCloud.
DJ Sourmilk looks like he’s in his element while pulling his quirky antics, but Dev looks a bit awkward. Her outfit is great, though. And kudos on that purple hair. But maybe he could have come up with a more inventive name than DJ Sourmilk. What about DJ Rotten Apples?
Carson Daly Is in Awe of the Camera – 2000
"It's Vegas, Baby!" As beloved American host Carson Daly looked up in wonder at the camera, preparing to shoot an episode of MTV's "Total Request Live" in 2000, he was at the height of his popularity. With his coveted role as an MTV VJ, Daly was one of the most sought-after media personalities of the 90s and 2000s.
Apart from hosting "Total Request Live," he was often seen with famous "it" girls of the era, such as Jennifer Love Hewitt and Tara Reid. Daly's charm, charisma, and infectious energy made him a household name and a beloved figure in American popular culture.
The Real Slim Shady Walks the Stage – 2000
After gaining critical acclaim with his debut album "The Slim Shady LP" and signing with Dr. Dre's record label, Eminem's career took off to new heights. The photo captured below at "MTV Spring Break" in 2000 showcases the rapper at the pinnacle of his success. Dr. Dre in the background makes the moment even more memorable.
The two were known for their successful collaborations in the years to come. However, at the time, few could have predicted that the young blond boy in the photo would go on to become one of the most significant and influential rappers of all time, leaving a considerable mark on the music industry.
No Doubt Looking Awesome Backstage – 2000
The whole gang is here! No Doubt poses for a cool photo backstage at the “Total Request Live” show in "MTV Spring Break" in 2000. From left to right, we see bassist Tony Kanal wearing an awesome ‘Purple Rain’ shirt and musician Stephen Bradley with his huge smile.
Then there's the iconic Gwen Stefani with her funky pink hair and a very cool top, guitarist Tom Dumont with the most 90s glasses ever, musician Gabrial McNair with those amazing shiny, satin grey pants, and drummer Adrian Young in his plaid pajama pants and what looks like a very cool shirt.
Sisqo, P!nk and Tyrese Joking Around – 2000
Now, there truly hasn’t been a more early-2000s photo than this one. Sisqo, P!nk, and Tyrese hanging around in the gorgeous Cancun sun and having a wild time in their "MTV Spring Break" photo shoot. P!nk is as cool as always with her signature pink hair and laid-back attitude, Sisqo with his iconic ashy blond hair, and Tyrese, well, just looking as handsome as always.
Although maybe we would lose the headband, this photo captures the essence of a bygone era when "MTV Spring Break" was a cultural phenomenon that brought together some of the biggest names in music for a week of sun, sand, and wild parties.
Rebecca Romijn and Jay-Z Get Cozy – 2000
Long before he became Queen Bey’s hubby, legendary rapper Jay-Z certainly had his fun. Here he is performing on stage at the "MTV Spring Break" show of 2000 while giving the gorgeous Rebecca Romijn a very loving hug. We don’t know if it was the heat or the happiness, but Jay-Z looks ecstatic in this photo.
Little did he know that eight years later, he would become Mr. Beyonce Knowles. The photo captures Jay-Z's undeniable charisma on stage, as well as his ability to capture the hearts of beautiful women. It's no surprise that he would go on to have one of the most successful music careers of all time, with hit after hit and countless accolades.
Carmen Electra Drives the Crowd Wild – 2000
We bet there wasn’t a single college student in that crowd that will ever forget "MTV Spring Break" in 2000 for many reasons – the most important one being Carmen Electra’s performance in a black bikini swimsuit and heels. The woman is too stunning for words.
We’re impressed by the sheer will and skill it takes to perform in those platform heels in 80-degree heat! She seems to be having the time of her life. It wasn't just her beauty but also her confidence and energy on stage that captivated the audience. Even after all these years, Carmen Electra's performance remains one of the most memorable moments in "MTV Spring Break" history.
Destiny’s Child Living Life – 2000
Never have four girls looked as happy as the young girls from Destiny’s Child looked in this photo. In 2000, Destiny’s Child was at the peak of their success, and little did they know that one of its members would go on to become an international superstar. Here's Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Farrah Franklin, and Michelle Williams.
They're posing in their gorgeous red bikini tops and jeans outfits (and let’s not forget the diamond stick-on tattoos we loved so much!). This was before getting on stage to perform at "MTV Spring Break" in 2000. The outfits were so iconic that they became the signature look of the girl group, inspiring many fans to replicate the style for years to come.
Ja Rule Gets Heatstroke – 2001
We all remember jamming to Ja Rule’s “I’m Real” song with Jennifer Lopez, and of course, the number one hit “Always on Time” with the beautiful Ashanti. From 1999 to the mid-2000s, this American rapper saw amazing success and obviously performed on "MTV Spring Break."
Above is the handsome Ja Rule looking a bit heat-stroked while he performs in “Carmen Electra’s Dance Party,” one of the most anticipated bits of the show. We can only imagine how tough it is to perform in the scorching heat, but Ja Rule is giving it his all! His energy, while sweaty, is infectious, and we can see why he had so many fans.
Eve Enjoys Some Sun – 2001
Remember the gorgeous rapper and singer/songwriter behind “Who's That Girl?” and “Gotta Man”? Yes, we’re talking about the one and only Eve. Here she is, looking as hot as ever, with the beautiful Cancun beaches in the background. We love the open black top, the graffiti-style skirt, and her signature animal paw tattoos on her chest.
But the white boots – where exactly are you going with that, Evie? It must be 100 degrees outside! Regardless, she seems to be having a great time, and who wouldn't be, surrounded by the sun, sand, and sea? Eve was definitely one of the coolest female rappers of the early 2000s, and this photo perfectly captures her signature style and confidence.
Brian McFayden Poses With Fans – 2001
The cutie MTV News anchor and VJ (when that was still a thing), Brian McFayden, became a teenage heartthrob during the early 2000s. Below you can see him in all his glory, posing for a photo surrounded by seven young fans. You just have to take a quick look at the girls’ swimsuit prints to know you’re back in the early 2000s.
And as for our boy Brian, he did fairly well for himself after his crazy Cancun parties and MTV days – he went on to work for an NBC station in Oregon. Looking at this photo, it's hard not to feel a sense of nostalgia for the good old days of "MTV Spring Break," where Brian and many other MTV VJs became beloved icons of a generation.
Ananda Lewis Gets an Interesting Tan Line – 2001
California girl Ananda Lewis was MTV’s VJ from the late 90s until 2001, and the only reason she left was to go host her own talk show – “The Ananda Lewis Show.” Below we see her in the "MTV Spring Break" season, and she couldn’t look more 2000s if she tried.
The jeans with the laced fly area, the square-shaped, blue-tinted sunglasses, the weirdly cut one-piece bodysuit, and the big hoop earrings. Apart from the fact that she’s going to get some interesting tan lines, Lewis looks fabulous. While she's not spring-breaking as much these days, Lewis was the queen of the beach this year.
Crazy Town Gets Crazy in Cancun – 2001
Oh, the 2000s, there truly was no better time for weird new boy bands to flourish. And who can forget the hit song “Butterfly” by the rap rock band Crazy Town? That Red Hot Chili Peppers sample was something else! It basically dominated the radio stations and our Napster playlists back then.
Above, we see the crazy boys from Crazy Town getting ready to party it up in "MTV Spring Break" in 2001. And apparently, aside from face piercings, star tattoos were all the rage. It's a shame they could never push on to become a mainstay rap rock band like, let's say, Linkin Park.
Dream Plays Charades on Stage – 2001
Okay, so they’re not actually playing charades, but it totally looks like they could be, right? The four-member girl band Dream skyrocketed to fame back in the 2000s when their single “He Loves U Not” topped the charts for weeks. As you can see, they were making a lot of fans' dreams come true that day.
Above are the four cute pop stars performing on stage as the musical performance of MTV’s “Fashionably Loud” program during the 2001 Spring break. As for their outfits, well, apparently, it was trendy to wear a piece of plaid fabric on one arm. Who knows what nightmare Dream turned into over the last two decades?
Shaggy Living It Up With a Model on Stage – 2001
We all listened to this Jamaican rapper’s tunes on repeat in the early 2000s – no radio station jam was complete without Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” or “Boombastic.” And, of course, leave it to the cool Shaggy to enjoy life to the fullest. Just that voice he'd put on in his songs was enough to send the crowd wild!
Especially on 2001's "MTV Spring Break" as he was dancing with a model on stage. Shaggy looks happy, for lack of a better word, and the model seems to be having a great time too. If he was singing "Angel" at that moment in time, you could say it was very fitting.
Molly Sims Dazzles Backstage – 2001
The gorgeous fashion model Molly Sims was the “It” girl of the 2000s – she was on the cover of fashion magazines, on highway billboards, movies, and shows, and even in "MTV Spring Break" shows. Here is the beautiful Sims wearing a somewhat confusing top and some jean shorts with an oversized belt.
We love her top’s color, but it looks a bit like a shredded curtain, and the jeans with the cowboy belt on top? We thought she was supposed to be a fashion connoisseur. Side note: how was 2001 over two decades ago? It just doesn't make any sense, right?
Tyrese Works Out Backstage – 2001
Nowadays, we all know him as the handsome Roman Pierce from the “Fast & Furious” film series, but before he was an actor, Tyrese was a singer. His first album, “Sweet Lady,” was released in 1998, and it was a huge hit. Hence, Tyrese doing MTV stuff over two decades ago.
Look at this gorgeous man working out so fast and so furiously backstage during "MTV Spring Break" – we bet that was better than a lot of musical performances. It’s okay, Tyrese; you can stop with the push-ups; we already know you’re strong and perfect. And that trend seems to carry on until this very day.
Snoop Dogg With Josie and the Pussycats – 2001
Leave it to hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg to always be surrounded by beautiful women. To his left is the gorgeous Rosario Dawson, and to his right is the “American Pie” bombshell, Tara Reid. We get that they’re at the beach, but honestly, none of the three is wearing an outfit we would classify as beach-worthy, least of all Mr. Dogg.
The movie “Josie and the Pussycats” had come out earlier that year, and they were celebrating by attending the "MTV Spring Break" party. And what better way to celebrate than with the Dogg himself? See, dogs and cats can coexist every once in a while! Thank you, MTV, for making this a possibility!
Mandy Moore at the Grand Oasis Hotel – 2002
The star from “This Is Us” and “A Walk to Remember” has certainly come a long way from her singing days. Mandy Moore rose to fame after her famous 1999 song, “Candy,” and she became one of the hottest musicians of the early 2000s. Only the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera were able to eclipse Mandy.
She always had that innocent girl look, which is definitely working wonders for her in the photo above. Mandy looks beautiful even with that double-colored top that looks like part of a tropical linen set tied together by what appears to be an unnecessary braid made of yarn.
Kylie Minogue Channels Her Inner Piñata – 2002
Don’t get us wrong, we love Kylie Minogue as much as the next person, and her songs were hits for a reason. However, we’re a bit confused by her choice of outfit for this 2002 "MTV Spring Break" shoot – is it a piñata? Is it party streamers? Maybe the Australian singer was just feeling extra festive.
Regardless of what she’s wearing, Minogue is certainly one of the most beautiful women there. And we’re sure the college students were going crazy when she came on stage. She was already really famous long before this photo was taken, and we haven't been able to get Kylie out of our heads ever since!
Fat Joe Looking Like a Gangsta – 2002
Bronx-born rapper Fat Joe started his career in 1992, working with the likes of Big Pun and DJ Premier. But his peak years were in the early 2000s. His 2001 album “Jealous Ones Still Envy (J.O.S.E.)” was a huge commercial success and had Joe performing on every music channel in the U.S., including MTV.
In 2002, he went down to Cancun for the "MTV Spring Break" edition, and by the looks of it, he had a bomb time. Just look at him above, looking like a true gangster – silver chain, Fendi towel, tinted sunglasses, and a hell of an attitude. Puerto Ricans in Mexico, what a dream!
Ashanti Performs on Stage – 2002
The beautiful singer and actress Ashanti dazzled the crowds in 2002's "MTV Spring Break." Below we see her performing on stage at the beach of the famous Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun, and we must say, we love her outfit – simple but cute. Whatever happened to this fantastic R&B singer?
Ashanti rose to fame when she was a young 21-year-old after being signed to the famous Murder Inc. Records in early 2002. She then skyrocketed to stardom when she was featured on Fat Joe’s song “What’s Luv” and Ja Rule’s "Always on Time.” And she also made it on time to this event!
Missy Elliott Gets Her Freak On – 2002
Even though this talented lady had been around the music scene since the mid-90s, it wasn’t until her solo debut album in 1997, “Supa Dupa Fly,” that the world got to know Missy Elliot. The American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer gives us a glimpse of her usual charismatic attitude below.
The “Queen of Rap” gave us the iconic “Work It” and “Get Ur Freak On,” which skyrocketed her to musical stardom. Nobody messes with Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott. And while she isn't as prolific these days as she used to be, Missy is still a beloved name in the hearts and minds of many.
The Osbournes Being Awkward Teens – 2002
You wouldn’t guess they were the children of “The Prince of Darkness” himself just by looking at them since Jack and Kelly Osbourne look like your typical bored and awkward teenagers in this photo. They have come a long way since being one of the pioneers of reality TV. They were doing it long before the Kardashians, that's for sure.
Ozzy’s kids attended the "MTV Spring Break" edition in 2002, which was the same year the famous reality TV show "The Osbournes" was released. Nothing like watching a heavy metal rockstar interact with his wife and kids. The question is: Did Ozzy and Sharon fly down to Mexico too to show some support?
Puddle of Mudd Gets Ready to Rock – 2002
These grungy Missouri kids hit it big with their 2001 album, “Come Clean.” Any early late 90s kid will remember rocking it out to “She Hates Me” and “Blurry,” the perfect angry teenager anthems. Just their name alone, Puddle of Mudd, is such a descriptive moniker. That extra D, though, is seriously vexing us.
Above are the young members of Puddle of Mudd getting ready to perform on stage at the beach of the Grand Oasis Hotel in 2002's "MTV Spring Break." And it would not surprise us if the band’s leader Wes Scantlin was actually born with that backward cap and sunglasses. So iconic!
Busta Rhymes Gives His All on Stage – 2002
Hip Hop royalty Busta Rhymes has been around since the mid-90s, rubbing shoulders with the music genre’s finest, including Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest. This 12-time Grammy Award nominee was always known for giving out the best performances and leaving his heart on stage. So much passion from Bus-a-Bus.
You need no further proof than the photo above to see that Busta Rhymes has had the same amazing energy for over three decades – and he’s still going strong. In fact, he seems to be rapping quicker with every song. Do you know what they call him? That's right, folks – the Dragon. Spitting rhymes like fire.
50 Cent Sparkles Like His Diamond Chains – 2003
No rapper is complete without his share of serious “bling,” and nobody understands this better than the legendary 50 Cent. Here he is in all his glory, radiating in the Cancun sun during 2003's "MTV Spring Break." This was pure "Fiddy" in his prime. Enjoying the success of his album "Get Rich or Die Tryin.'"
The rapper shines on stage covered in jewelry and his signature Mets sideward cap. You’ve got to be as built as 50 Cent to be able to hold up those massive silver and diamond chains – not to mention the 8-pound belt buckle. So go, Shorty, even if it's not your birthday.
The All-American Rejects Are on Fire – 2003
With their self-titled debut album going mainstream and topping charts, it made sense that The All-American Rejects would headline the 2003 "MTV Spring Break" musical performance. Let's face it, the band's name alone was going to attract a wide range of fans. A lot of people could relate to them, leading to a pretty dedicated fan base.
But let’s not forget they were still teenagers when they achieved massive success, which explains the haircuts and eyeliner. We get that they have an image to maintain, but skinny jeans and black shirts in 80-degree heat? Now that’s what we call commitment. Even the guitars are black and brown!
Carmen Electra and La La Were the 90s – 2003
Okay, you are going to have to believe us when we say we spared you the eyesore that is MTV VJ La La’s shoes. Off the frame is a pair of red, high-heeled Converse – a fashion trend we’ve tried hard to forget. Otherwise, we dig her outfit – very 90s but fun. Otherwise, we're curious to know what she was saying to the crowd. It must've been something really interesting.
As for the drop-dead gorgeous actress Carmen Electra, well, what can we say? This woman could be wearing a dead bird on her head and still look stunning. Seriously, her name is Carmen Electra. Just the name alone is incredible. Although maybe she could’ve ditched the football player socks at a beach party.
Sofia Vergara Turns Heads in Miami Beach – 2003
We apologize to women everywhere, but we just have to say this – Sofia Vergara simply does not age. The woman was 31 years old in this photo and looked like a 20-year-old; 20 years later, she looked exactly the same! She might even be the Latin American female Benjamin Button!
The gorgeous Colombian-American model poses for a backstage photo at the Surfcomber Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida. Even with sporty beige gym shorts and a basic pink top, this lady looks stunning. Don't you just love "Modern Family?" She was one of the real stars of that show, for real.
Hilarie Burton Embraces Her Country Roots – 2003
You might know her from playing Peyton Sawyer in the famous TV show “One Tree Hill,” but cutie Hilarie Burton started her career as an MTV VJ in the early 2000s. Below is the young Burton posing for a photo backstage in 2003’s "MTV Spring Break." And she brought her A-game to the event.
Let's face it; if you were on "One Tree Hill" back in the day, you were all the rage during that time. So many great stars came out of that show, and Peyton was right up there. Burton has always been beautiful, and we understand this was in the early 2000s when many questionable fashion choices were made. But that dress, seriously?
American Idols Pose for a Quick Pic – 2003
We all know who Kelly Clarkson is, but how many remember the runner-up for that first American Idol season? Well, if you needed a reminder, here is singer Justin Guarini in all his glory, posing for a photo with 2002 American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson. That's like Messi and Ronaldo going on Spring Break together, basically.
Apparently, the two remained good friends and are still close to this day. Obviously, there's a slight difference, though: this pink bikini teen went on to have a net worth of over $50 million. Four words can explain Clarkson's pop icon status: "Since You've Been Gone." That's all we had to say.
Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson Backstage – 2003
Although we’re used to seeing these famous musicians sitting in their chairs passing judgment on terrified young performers, American Idol judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson definitely looked relaxed for once. It just goes to show what Spring Break can do for one's mental well-being and peace of mind.
Above, we see them pose backstage during 2003's "MTV Spring Break," and we must say that even though Paula looks like she’s wearing a torn black fishing net, she still looks great. And Randy, looking stylish as always, of course. These are two of the coolest judges of all time.
Sum 41 Rocking Out – 2003
The punk rock boys from Canada, Sum 41, was one of the most famous bands of the early 2000s. They reached mainstream success after the debut of their 2001 album “All Killer No Filler,” which included their famous songs “Fat Lip” and “In Too Deep” – which probably drove every parent in America crazy.
And yes, we’ll forgive the dyed black spiky hair, the black jeans in burning heat, and the sweaty wristbands. After all, you weren’t a 2000s punk band without them. You've definitely earned your place at "MTV Spring Break" when your song ends up in an "American Pie" movie. We don't want to waste our time, after all...
Star Trek’s Jolene Blalock Hosts in Bikini– 2003
Remember the gorgeous woman who played Officer T’Pol in “Star Trek Enterprise”? You probably do, since she was stunning even with sci-fi pointy ears. The actress, Jolene Blalock, held the role for many seasons and also guest-starred in several TV films and shows. And here, she entered a completely new frontier...
Here she is above in 2003’s "MTV Spring Break" hosting the show and looking absolutely fabulous. Back then, she wore her hair blonde and apparently hosted in a bikini – not that anybody had any complaints. As you can see, she had some cue cards to make sure she didn't choke on stage. Thank the Lord for that.
Muniz Was Way Too Young for Spring Break – 2003
We know he was 18 at the time (because we had to look it up), but Agent Cody Banks still looks like a child who’s way too young for the wildness of spring break. Of course, that’s why you see a huge smile across actor Frankie Muniz’s face – what more could you ask for at 18?
To make the whole thing even more early 2000s, our beloved Muniz is wearing a John Mayer t-shirt. Aw, nostalgia. One thing's for sure, Muniz is not the boss of pop culture's collective consciousness anymore. "Malcolm in the Middle" feels like forever ago! All we need is Bryan Cranston to pop up out of nowhere...
Matthew Perry and Natasha Henstridge – 2004
The blonde bombshell Natasha Henstridge started out as a model (because, come on, have you seen her?) and then made her big acting debut in the 1995 sci-fi film, “Species.” And here she is below, laughing hysterically next to none other than the beloved Chandler Bing from “Friends.” And can you blame her?
We’ve seen that cheeky smile on the late Matthew Perry’s face a million times; he probably said something wildly hilarious in his signature serious tone, and Natasha just couldn’t help herself. The two are hosting the stage at 2004's "MTV Spring Break" in Cancun. Like seriously, could they be any cuter together?
The Good Years of Lindsay Lohan – 2004
Ah, the Lindsay Lohan we all know and remember – pre-law-issues records. Here she is backstage during the taping of 2004's "MTV Spring Break," looking beautiful and very 90s with those huge, pink-tinted sunglasses. And if you know your celebrity history, you'll know that this was at a pivotal point in her professional life.
This was the same year the famous “Mean Girls” film was released, so she was at the peak of her career when this photo was taken. A year later, she starred in “Herbie: Fully Loaded” and has had non-stop work since that point – barring her difficult years, of course.
Jessica Simpson Greets Her Fans – 2004
Jessica Simpson signed her first record deal at 17, and two years later, in 1999, she released her debut album “Sweet Kisses.” It sold more than 2 million copies in the U.S. alone. When you take that into consideration, it does explain why it feels like she's been around forever.
A beautiful 24-year-old Jessica Simpson greets her fans backstage while she is followed by a man who looks like a friend or her bodyguard. We all agree that this blonde was stunning, but come on, man, be a bit discreet! Nick Lachey was super lucky, despite moving on since then and remarrying.
Trishelle Canatella Poses Backstage – 2004
Reality TV star, Playboy model, and actress Trishelle Canatella got her start in MTV’s reality TV show, “The Real World.” Canatella certainly enjoyed success and fame after that, landing small acting roles and becoming a sought-after model. So it makes sense that she would appear on another MTV show around this time.
Also, we have to say she’s one of the few celebrities who were actually wearing beach-friendly, “real world” attire. A jean mini short and a top over a swimsuit, how can you go wrong? We love it when celebrities just look like normal human beings. It's so refreshing and boring, just how we like it.
Model Michelle Lombardo Poses for a Photo – 2004
This Connecticut native was once voted one of the most beautiful women of the early 2000s, and it’s easy to see why. Below is model and actress Michelle Lombardo posing in her swimsuit for 2004's "MTV Spring Break." Lombardo rose to fame when she made the cover of several Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues in the early 2000s.
Then, she made her acting debut in the 2005 film “Dishdogz” and then landed a role on the hit HBO series “Entourage” in 2007. The latter should be a testament to the fact that she's actually got some acting chops. Either that or she was just horribly miscast.
Nick Cannon Gets Friendly With Mariachis – 2005
TV host, rapper, actor, and comedian Nick Cannon was huge back in the early 2000s. After making fame in the famous 90s comedy sketch show “All That,” he then hit it big with his self-titled TV show. As you can see here, he was already going wild and out when he was still a young'n.
Cannon also hosted “America’s Got Talent,” “The Masked Singer,” and “Lip Sync Battle Shorties.” All in all, the 2000s were a great era for the California native. Just look at him posing next to Mariachis in Cancun with his generous t-shirt – have you ever seen a happier man in your life?
Rob Schneider and His Hilarious Antics – 2005
Who else but hilarious comedian Rob Schneider was going to perform on stage wearing a full-on suit and a fedora hat? This man seems to be having the time of his life, and so does everybody else around him. We don't think anyone could produce a crowd reaction quite like Rob.
This photo was taken during 2005's "MTV Spring Break," which means Schneider was enjoying his success from his role in “50 First Dates” alongside longtime buddy Adam Sandler. He was also filming the sequel of his famous Deuce Bigalow character: “European Gigolo.” This is arguably the most successful time in his career.
Trick Daddy Playing Cards on Stage – 2005
We’re not sure exactly what game rapper Trick Daddy was hosting on stage at 2005's "MTV Spring Break" or who Alex or Cameron were, but this man managed to look cool even wearing a shirt that was ten times his size. This rapper is a true success story, making his way out of a very harsh upbringing in Liberty City, Miami.
All we know is that Trick Daddy knew how to accessorize, and we’d love to know where he got his cap. Also, this master of ceremonies always knew how to take 'em to the house. When it comes to Southern rap, there's no one who could do it much better than Trick Daddy.
Mario Gets Smothered by a Spring Breaker – 2005
Now here’s a springbreaker who was determined not to go home empty-handed. While on stage, R&B singer, actor, dancer, and record producer Mario was jumped by a die-hard fan while he was performing on stage. Not that he seemed mad about it – in fact, he gave her that gorgeous bouquet of roses.
This Baltimore native signed his first record deal at 14 and then released his first solo album in 2002, which skyrocketed to the top of the Billboard chart. He’s also acted in “Step Up” and the hit TV show “Empire.” Ladies and gentlemen, just let this crooner love you.
Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore Backstage – 2005
Before he had his own TV show, Jimmy Fallon was a regular at "MTV Spring Break" editions. And so was Drew Barrymore, who he was very good friends with. It's quite difficult to fathom just how young both of them look in this photo. And of course, Barrymore had already been famous for so long.
The young celebrities posed backstage while the show was taping, and honestly, they looked like they were having maybe a little bit too much fun – especially Jimmy, who was almost famous, quite literally. It looks like he hasn’t slept for three days! Drew, on the other hand, was looking as lovely as always.
Ciara Stares the Camera Down – 2005
The beautiful singer/songwriter Ciara stares the camera down while posing for a pic during 2005's "MTV Spring Break" in Cancun. We assume she was performing one of her big hits from that era. Most likely, it was "1, 2, Step." Thought we might be wrong on that one. Don't quote us on that.
We love the red hair, the blouse, and the stunning figure – the super high gold belt and that massive flower in her hair, not so much. Plus, what are you doing in jeans with that stunning body and 80-degree weather?! Regardless, she still has the voice of an angel and an incredibly successful career.
T.I. Loved His Bucket Hat – 2005
American rapper T.I. is one of America’s highest-selling hip-hop artists of all time – the man is a legend. Along with rappers Gucci Mane and Jeezy, T.I. is credited as one of the founders of trap music. When you think of all the hits he had back in the '00s, this photo really harks back to that amazing time.
But back in 2005, he was still a young man who dressed like he was going to a boating competition. Although we must say, that bucket hat is quite adorable. The three-time Grammy Award winner has certainly come a long way since then, becoming a major player in the hip-hop scene.
Omarion Breaking Hearts Backstage – 2005
American R&B singer, actor, and dancer Omarion rose to fame as the lead singer of B2K, a very famous boy band of the late 90s. And here is the handsome young man posing for a quick photo backstage at 2005's "MTV Spring Break" in Cancun. Truth be told, he hasn't aged a day since.
What can we say about his outfit other than it’s perfect? If you look like Omarion, the only smart thing to wear is a white tank top to show off. And, of course, let’s not forget the serious bling. These days, you can find Omarion on reality shows such as "The Masked Singer."
Paris Hilton on Her Man-Powered Chariot – 2005
Paris Hilton is probably the most famous socialite in the world, if only for her love of parties and her very rich and famous circle of friends. How else would she arrive at 2005's "MTV Spring Break" if it wasn’t in a chariot carried by hunky college boys? Your guess is as good as ours.
The Hilton Hotel heiress waves to the crowd as she is carried into the party in her signature pink-colored chariot. What a life. We think the servants have probably moved on to bigger and better things. Or maybe this was as good as it got for them. It is Paris Hilton, after all...
Frank Sweeney and Alexandra Govere – 2012
For 2012's "MTV Spring Break," the show’s producers decided to forego the beach and go to Las Vegas instead. Below we see TV personality Frank Sweeney and singer Alexandra Govere at the Palms Casino Resort posing for a photo. They looked super friendly together and probably relied on each other to get through all the chaos of the event.
We understand they were probably hanging by the pool, but wearing a bikini with glamorous heels and swim shorts with moccasins is still a bit strange, isn’t it? (Footwear is not included in the frame, but trust us, we couldn't make this thing up.) At least for us regular mortals, it would be. Just remind yourself that this was a long time ago and they probably moved on to become sensible adults.
Armor for Sleep Brings Emo Back to Life – 2006
The crowds of Panama City Beach, Florida, were graced by the indie rock band Armor for Sleep back in 2006’s "MTV Spring Break." We’ve got to give it to these boys; how many hours must they have spent in front of the mirror straightening their hair? And Armor for Sleep, what's that all about?
Is it because sleep is the cousin of death, and they want to protect themselves from it? The New Jersey boy band rose to fame in the early 2000s and had a lot of success for a few years. Then they disbanded and went on to have decent solo careers.
2 Chainz Arrives at the Vegas Pool Party – 2012
American rapper 2 Chainz, born Tauheed Epps, rose to fame in the early 2000s as part of the Southern hip-hop duo Playaz Circle. He then paved the way for what has been a very successful solo career. Seriously, he must have been featured on a song by every single popular singer from the last decade-plus!
Above, we see the rapper arrive at the Las Vegas Palms Casino Resort for 2012's "MTV Spring Break." Only a rapper could arrive at a sunny pool party wearing all black. Either that or an emo band of some kind. We seriously hope he changed into some swimming trunks shortly after.
LL Cool J Looking as Cool as Ever – 2006
This rapper needs no introduction since LL Cool J was one of the most famous musicians of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. One of the first rappers to reach such mainstream success, his career started in 1984, when he signed with Def Jam Recordings and then released his debut album “Radio” a year later.
Do you know what's amazing, though? LL has looked the same for the last 40 years! How is that even possible? Here is the rapper above in all his glory, performing like a true hip-hop king. Did you know that his name stands for Ladies Love Cool James? Neither did we.
Sean Paul Lights Up the Crowd – 2006
Jamaican rapper and singer Sean Paul rose to fame after his debut album “Stage One” came out in 2000. Since then, he collaborated with some of hip hop’s biggest names and went on to have a prolific solo career and advance the dancehall genre. And he has worked with just about everyone.
He’s topped the charts and even won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album for his second album, “Dutty Rock.” Here he is above lighting up the crowd (with a backstage dancer or infiltrated spring breaker in the background) while he performs at 2006's "MTV Spring Break" in Panama City Beach, Florida.
All-American Rejects Give It Their All – 2006
This rock band was around for several "MTV Spring Sreak" editions, including the 2006 edition, where they performed to an adoring crowd. The All-American Rejects were at it again with their straightened hair, their eyeliner, their skinny jeans, and black t-shirts. Seriously though, these guys need to read the room when it comes to fashion.
They performed alongside legendary LL Cool J and Daddy Yankee on stage. Now that’s a show we’d like a repeat of. That's three very different genres on one stage. We've got rock, hip-hop, and reggaeton. Genius! Perhaps without the skinny jeans that are giving us hot flashes just looking at them.
Big Sean Is Finally Famous – 2012
Even though American rapper Big Sean started his career in 2007 and rose to fame in 2010, he was still holding his “Finally Famous” flag at the 2012 "MTV Spring Break." And why shouldn’t he? It’s definitely something to celebrate. This is the guy who worked with many big hip-hop stars early on in his career, including Kanye West and Pusha T.
We love his style – the striped socks, the laid-back long shorts, and that incredibly cool cap. Big Sean definitely knows how to dress for the occasion, never forgetting his bling. This was prime Big Sean time, and we're totally here for it. These days, he's been famous for a long time.
Tila Tequila Gets Ready to Party– 2008
Singapore-born reality TV star and media personality Tila Tequila rose to fame in the early 2000s. This Asian beauty first gained popularity by appearing on social networking sites like MySpace; she garnered so many fans and views on the platform that producers offered her a lead role in her own reality TV show.
Needless to say, she accepted, and so the famous dating show “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila” came to be. Here is a young Tila above looking great in that one-piece swimsuit, getting ready to host 2008's "MTV Spring Break" in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. What a legend we have here.
Three 6 Mafia Takes Over the Stage – 2006
Lighting up the stage at Panama City Beach, Florida, for 2006's "MTV Spring Break" was the famous 90s hip-hop group, Three 6 Mafia. These guys made their debut in 1995 with the release of their hit album “Music Stylez.” Not only did it sell millions of copies, but it also became a famous cult classic.
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Three 6 Mafia came together in 1991 and were regarded as a horror-themed underground hip-hop band. But as far as we can tell, the only terrifying thing about them is that raggedy old towel they’re holding on stage. And they're still staying fly until this very day.
Carly Henderson Brings Glamour to MTV – 2012
Carly Henderson is one of those people who got so obsessed with pop culture that she carved a spot for herself in the entertainment industry. She first became known for writing, producing, and hosting a weekly show titled “Weird This Week for Hollywire.” The girl basically lived and breathed celeb stuff.
Then she transitioned into being a host and VJ for MTV and the NY Comedy Festival. And we must say, we’re fans of her outfit for the 2012 "MTV's Spring Break" event: a classy yet simple red-orange dress, a fashionable multi-colored belt, and the gold bracelet accessory. Bravo, Carly, bravo.
Lil Wayne Shows Us Some Attitude – 2006
Before the blond dreadlocks and the fully tattooed face, Lil Wayne was mostly concerned with wearing as many chains as possible around his neck. This talented rapper performed in 2006's "MTV Spring Break" edition, and he was amazing. He was already making "a milli" at this point, probably a few millies, to be fair.
Lil Wayne has had an impressive career, signing with a record label at the young age of 12 in 1995. Since then, he’s kept on recording and making chart-topping albums, his last one being in 2021. And most surprisingly, he has developed a reputation as a bit of a skater boy.
HelloGoodbye and the Performing Pizza – 2006
Among the many things that were trendy back in the 2000s, apparently, one of them was performing as a pizza. Yes, you read that right – as an actual slice of pizza. Truth be told, though, this slice doesn't look particularly appetizing, especially since there is a full, living human singing inside it.
The famous early 2000s pop band HelloGoodbye’s lead singer came out in a hilarious pizza costume, and we do not even want to know how much he was sweating under there. At least he could run straight into the sea as soon as the show was over. Just don't put him in the microwave anytime soon.
B.o.B. Dressed to Impress in Las Vegas – 2012
American rapper and record producer B.o.B. had his big break in 2006 and saw huge success during the decade that followed. In 2013, a year after this photo of him attending 2014's "MTV Spring Break" show was taken, he released his third album, “Underground Luxury,” to rave reviews. He just oozed class!
The man definitely has style, arriving in Vegas with his leopard print shirt, black vest, and latest edition Adidas shoes. We hope he won some poker games at the Palms Casino Resort in between shows. To be fair, though, B.o.B. hasn't exactly been stealing the headlines recently. We wonder what happened to him.
Ludacris and La La on Stage – 2005
Ludacris started rapping when he was nine years old, and by the 1990s, he had already founded his own record label and released his first album. Massive success came in the early 2000s after he signed with Def Jam Recordings. He was Mr. Southern Hospitality and has never looked back!
Above is the famous rapper driving his fans wild while performing on stage for the 2005 "MTV Spring Break" show alongside MTV VJ La La, who was wearing a very cute purple minidress, by the way. Luda is a "Fast and Furious" star these days but still manages to find time to make his fair share of music.
Bubba Sparxxx Strikes a Pose – 2006
American hip-hop musician and country rapper Bubba Sparxxx rose to fame with his hit singles “Deliverance,” “Ms. New Booty,” and “Ugly” in the early 2000s. So logically, he was invited to be part of 2006's "MTV Spring Break" show. And things got pretty ugly, pretty fast. And when we say "ugly," we mean fun.
Above we see the quirky Mr. Sparxxx striking a pose backstage after taping a segment of “MTV2’s Spring Break Booty” at their studio in Times Square, New York City. And if you need any proof of the year, just take a look at the background – they were premiering the first “Ice Age” movie!
Dev and DJ Sourmilk Pose Awkwardly – 2012
Here we have singer Dev and DJ Sourmilk posing for a photo before getting onstage to perform at the 2012 "MTV Spring Break" show.
The Ying Yang Twins Serve Up Some Style – 2006
The Ying Yang Twins were a hip-hop duo made up of rappers D-Roc and Kaine, and they rose to fame in 2000. Mainly by being partially responsible for Britney Spears’ song “I Got That Boom Boom” and collaborating with rapper Lil Jon on his song “Get Low.” And you can't forget "Wait (The Whisper Song)."
One thing is undeniable – these twins have style. Or at least they made sure it looked that way for the taping of their segment on MTV2’s "Spring Break Booty" show in Times Square. Of course, we still have no idea which one was Ying and which one was Yang.
Hawthorne Heights Rock Out on Stage – 2006
Rock band Hawthorne Heights achieved mainstream success with their 2004 debut album, “The Silence in Black and White,” and then with their second album, “If Only You Were Lonely,” in 2006. So for 2006's "MTV Spring Break," these boys were at the peak of their careers, and they certainly showed it with their performance.
These guys are rocking out on stage and doing it on a guitar with a little stick figure on it made of white tape. Does it get any more rock & roll than that? And there is so much passion that it's difficult to keep up. Just get rid of your guitar and jump in the pool already!
The King of Reggaeton Getting Ready – 2006
No introduction is needed for the man who is considered the “The King of Reggaeton.” Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee first coined the term in 1991, and it became an international phenomenon. Below we see a young Daddy Yankee getting ready to perform his live show at 2006's "MTV Spring Break."
This was two years after his hit song “Gasolina” came out and became an international success. Since then, Daddy Yankee has sold over 30 million records and is considered to be one of the best-selling Latin artists of all time. And he's still going stronger than ever, by the way.
Juelz Santana at Panama City Beach – 2006
American rapper Juelz Santana got his big break as a member of the popular hip-hop group The Diplomats. He rose further to fame after collaborating with rapper Cam’ron on two hit singles in 2002 and Chris Brown in 2005. Juelz also released his own albums in 2003 and 2005, and both topped the Billboard charts for weeks.
Above, we see Julez performing on stage at 2006's "MTV Spring Break" show in Panama City Beach, Florida. And no, he has absolutely no relation to Carlos Santana. Though he definitely has a supernatural quality about him with his ability to write and spit such genius lyrics.
Sunnie Dae Poses in Front of Massive Crowd – 2014
What a Spring Break show that must have been at the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun, Mexico back in 2014. The massive crowd behind rapper Sunnie Dae is just a fraction of the hundreds of people that attended the show, and by the looks of it, they were having a wild time.
Rapper Sunny Dae gives the camera a cheeky pout while performing for his fans. We bet he was hot in those jeans and this shirt, but we must say we’re loving that all-purple polo and Adidas cap. And who needs Sunny Dae when you're getting so much vitamin D from the sun?!
Amy Acker and Kristen Connolly Laughing – 2012
Kristen Connolly is mostly known for her roles in “House of Cards” and the CBS series “Zoo,” but back in the day, she made her debut in 2011 with her role in the popular film “The Cabin in the Woods.” And then there's Amy Acker, who showed up in the Season One finale of "How I Met Your Mother."
In this photo, the two actress friends seemed to be having a great time while posing for a photo at the screening party for the horror film. It was part of 2012's "MTV Spring Break" show. Acker has just heard the greatest joke in her entire life. Connolly managed to keep it together, though.
Afrojack Gets Ready for an Epic Party – 2014
Maybe you won’t remember him by name, but you surely heard or remember Afrojack’s music from some party in the 2000s. This Dutch DJ and music producer rose to fame after starting his own record label in 2007. Truth be told, we can't help but think of Afroman instead. Two very different people, for sure.
In 2014, he released his debut album, “Forget the World,” and he also attended the "MTV Spring Break" show that year, where he played for a massive crowd in what was an incredible 20-hour party. Afrojack is considered to be among the ten best DJs in the world. For real.
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro Walking the Casino – 2012
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro became a famous TV personality after being cast in the MTV reality TV show “Jersey Shore” in 2009. And here we see the Bronx-born celebrity walking towards the casino at the "MTV Spring Break" of 2012, which took place in Las Vegas. He looks like he's ready to risk it all for the jackpot prize.
We do not know what Ronnie has been up to since “Jersey Shore’s” 6 seasons. But back then, business must have been going well because his watch alone was worth thousands. Hey, it is Vegas; one must dress the part. And he most certainly did.
Bebe Rexha Salutes Her Fans – 2014
Although singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha didn’t achieve wild commercial success back then, she played a huge part in writing for some of the music industry’s biggest musicians. She signed with Warner Records in 2013 and was the writer behind Eminem’s hit song, “The Monster.” Rexha has also written for Selena Gomez and Nick Jones, among others.
Above we see a beautiful young Rexha saluting the crowd as she performs at the "MTV Spring Break" of 2014. Don’t really understand the plastic skirt in such hot weather, but we are digging the gemstone sunglasses. Truth be told, Rexha looks a lot blonder these days.
Trey Songz Is Adored by the Crowd – 2014
Rapper Trey Songz gets all the love from his crowd while he performs at the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun. He was just one of the many performers lined up for 2014's "MTV Spring Break" show, which took place in Cancun and Las Vegas. You know you're cool when you spell "Songz" that way.
Trey had just released his sixth studio album, “Trigga,” that year, and he’s kept on recording non-stop to this day. This R&B singer is regarded as one of the best in the industry and based on this photo alone, it's not hard to see why. The guy's just always got his finger on the trigga.
April Rose and Andrew Schulz Going Wild – 2014
Now, this is our kind of party – a piña colada in one hand and a yard glass with guacamole in the other. This is how Maxim model April Rose and comedian Andrew Schulz host 2014's "MTV Spring Break" in Cancun, Mexico. They really are the dynamic duo or the odd couple, depending on who you ask.
We love Rose’s colorful bikini top, and Andrew’s shirt isn’t bad either – although we are a bit confused. Are we supposed to respect the rooster? The dragon? A hybrid of the two? And that cup he's drinking from – we don't even want to know what he poured into it.
Kid Ink Shows Off His Body Ink – 2014
Born Brian Collings, a famous rapper, record producer, and singer/songwriter Kid Ink made waves with his debut album in 2012. The album, “Up & Away,” topped the charts and earned him millions of loyal fans, so much so that he was asked to perform at 2014's "MTV Spring Break" show.
We don’t know where he got his stage name from, but “Ink” is definitely a word that fits this artist. Just check out all of those tattoos! We're sure they all have some profound meaning behind them. Either that or he just picked them at random. It's one or the other.
Carson Daly Gets Cheeky – 2000
TV host Carson Daly was everywhere back in the 2000s, and "MTV Spring Break" in 2000 was no exception. Daly was also a VJ for MTV’s “Total Request Live” show, which is what he was taping in the photo below. He really did have an iconic look at the turn of the millennium. In fact, he really did epitomize that period of history.
Carson decided to get cheeky and stick his tongue out for the camera while on set in Las Vegas, Nevada. And he’s had quite the career, appearing in “The Voice,” “Last Call With Carson Daly,” “Chapelle’s Show,” and many more. You know you're famous when you're a lyric in an Eminem song.
Enrique Iglesias Looking Way Too Orange – 2000
Enrique Iglesias was, without a doubt, one of the hottest and most talented singers of the 2000s. And to be fair, he still is until this very day! But for the love of God, who told him to wear those orange cargo pants?! And don’t even get us started on that hat.
We love you, Enrique, and we were very happy to see you perform at 2000's "MTV Spring Break" edition, but next time, maybe get some proper fashion advice. Otherwise, we have this to say to you: you can be our hero and kiss away the pain on any other day.
Rebecca Romijn and Destiny’s Child – 2000
It’s hard to know where to look with so much beauty on the stage. Between model and actress Rebecca Romijn and the gorgeous ladies of Destiny’s Child, the audience was probably going wild at 2000's "MTV Spring Break" edition. And can you blame them for having a wild reaction?
This was during Destiny’s Child's peak fame – one year after the release of their hit album “The Writing's on the Wall.” We love everything about this photo: Romijn’s animal print shorts, Destiny’s red bikini tops and jeans outfits. Ahh, the 2000s. It's amazing how far everyone in this photo has come.
