We know all about this A-list relationship thanks to Tom Cruise’s infamous couch-jumping incident when he was on Oprah.
The pair started dating in 2005, and just eight weeks after going public with the relationship, they got engaged when Cruise got down on one knee while the two were on top of the Eiffel Tower. Of course, it’s been a while since they went their separate ways.
Zoe Saldana & Marco Perego
It took three months of dating for Latina actress Zoe Saldana and Italian producer and director Marco Perego to take the next step.
Not only has Zoe been in three of the five highest-grossing movies ever (thanks, MCU!), but she also found success in her personal life – she and her husband have been married since 2013. In November of 2014, the couple welcomed a pair of boys, Cy and Bowie, and then in February of 2017; they announced the birth of their third son, Zen.
Sofia Vergara & Joe Manganiello
Dungeons and Dragons superfan and the occasional actor Joe Manganiello decided to marry fashion model and actress Sofia Vergara after dating her for only six months.
Always the bright thinker, Manganiello popped the question while the couple was on a romantic holiday in Hawaii on Christmas Eve in 2014. The following November, they got married in Palm Beach. However, the picturesque couple ended up going their separate ways in 2024.
Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony
2004 was a pretty wild year for Jennifer Lopez. She called off her wedding to Ben Affleck just a few days before the ceremony and then jumped ship on the relationship for good (at least, until they got back together about two decades later), heading over to the waiting arms of Marc Anthony.
They dated for only six months before getting married. Anthony was still finalizing his divorce with Dayanara Torres only a week before the date, so they tried hard to keep their quick engagement under wraps. They ultimately split up though in 2011, eventually divorcing a couple years later.
Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon
Everything about this couple comes as a surprise to the celebrity-obsessed public. After just six weeks – a month and a half! – this pair tied the knot in a surprise ceremony.
They got married in 2008 and spent six wonderful years together before they filed for divorce in 2014. The divorce was finalized in 2016, and the pair co-parent their two children.
Rob Kardashian & Blac Chyna
Thanks to a 7-carat diamond ring, one of the lesser-known Kardashian family members popped the question to his girlfriend of just 10 weeks, model and entrepreneur Blac Chyna.
These two fell for each other hard, so we all should have been expecting a short courtship. They announced the news on Instagram for all their fans to see, but their relationship didn't last very long. They still share a daughter, Dream.
Nick Jonas & Priyanka Chopra
Two months after news broke that the pair had begun dating, they were already engaged. The star-studded couple had been spotted out on dinner dates and at a “Beauty and the Beast Live in Concert” show in Los Angeles before they announced the engagement.
The singer and “Quantico” star were married in a series of lavish ceremonies in India. So far, the two are still going strong.
Kaley Cuoco & Ryan Sweeting
When “The Big Bang Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco and former tennis player Ryan Sweeting met, they were pretty sure that it was meant to be. It took a mere three months between their first interaction and when they decided to get married.
And while their marriage did last longer than their dating relationship, it didn't exactly break any records – they lasted only twenty-one months before untying the knot.
Khloé Kardashian & Lamar Odom
If you're a fan of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” then you should already be familiar with the huge, lavish ceremony that helped this Kardashian sister and famous basketball player Lamar Odom get hitched. You might not know that the wedding, with all its fabulous finery, happened only a month after the two met.
The marriage got its start in 2009, and despite them putting in the effort with lots of ups and downs, the couple separated in 2016. Before they broke up, they had their own reality series, “Khloé & Lamar.”
Emily Ratajkowski & Sebastian Bear-McClard
We don't have exact dates for when this couple, made up of supermodel Emily Ratajkowski and actor Sebastian Bear-McClard, actually started dating – or even when they got engaged. However, while the dating relationship itself might not have been very long, Ratajkowski apparently kept Sebastian in the friend zone for two years.
Or, as she put it, she spent two years vetting him. The couple tied the knot in a surprise ceremony at New York's City Hall in February of 2018. But after four years of marriage, they went their separate ways.
Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise
We know all about this A-list relationship thanks to Tom Cruise's infamous couch-jumping incident when he was on Oprah.
The pair started dating in 2005, and just eight weeks after going public with the relationship, they got engaged when Cruise got down on one knee while the two were on top of the Eiffel Tower. Of course, it's been a while since they went their separate ways.
Jennifer Lawrence & Cooke Maroney
Jennifer Lawrence managed to bag gallery director Cooke Maroney after only a few months of dating. The silver screen star started dating the director of New York's Gladstone Gallery back in June of 2018, and it wasn't long before Cooke popped the question.
They kept their relationship relatively quiet and private. The two got married in 2019 in a comparatively intimate wedding (a mere 150 guests) and are still together. In fact, the relationship has become so important to Lawrence that she's decided to take her foot off the acting-pedal a little in order to help it stay strong.
Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton
Not only did Jolie and Thornton only spend two months dating before they got engaged, but they also sort of skipped the whole “getting engaged” part of the timeline, moving right into marriage.
Just two years after separating from her first husband, Jolie met Thornton on the set of the 1999 film “Pushing Tin.” Their connection was instant, and they ended up eloping the following year. They got divorced three years later, which paved the way for the famous Jolie-Pitt marriage.
Nikki Reed & Paul McDonald
Sometimes you just know you're ready to go to the next step, which must have been how Nikki Reed (who played Rosalie Hale on the “Twilight” series) and Paul McDonald (who was a contestant on “American Idol” and has become a well-known singer and songwriter) felt.
They dated for only three months, getting engaged in 2011. They got married in the same year, but they split in 2015. Nikki didn't wait long to shack up with someone else, getting married in April of the same year to Ian Somerhalder. Paul, on the other hand, is still single, so good news if you're interested in eighth-place finishers in “American Idol.”
Drew Barrymore & Will Kopelman
It's kind of a habit for Drew Barrymore to take the short path to the altar. The actress and Will Kopelman, an actor and artistic consultant, dated for less than a year before they decided to seal the deal and got engaged in 2012.
Four years isn't too bad when it comes to celebrities, but Barrymore and Kopelman still split up in 2016. Barrymore had previously had quick relationships with bar owner Jeremy Thomas, dating him for a mere six weeks before the two headed to the chapel. She also had a lightning-fast marriage to Tom Green in 2001 that only lasted for a year. She's getting better at it, at least.
Claire Holt & Andrew Joblon
Only three months after her husband Matt Kaplan filed for divorce, Australian actress Claire Holt was pictured with her new guy, real estate executive Andrew Joblon. News of this relationship came at the end of July 2017, and by December, Andrew had proposed.
These two were clearly ready to walk down the aisle, but they had to wait for Holt's first marriage to properly end. They made it to the altar in August of 2018. Two months later, the couple announced that Claire was pregnant. The pair has three children, a son born in March 2019, a daughter born in September 2020, and another son born in 2023.
Jana Kramer & Mike Caussin
Jana Kramer, a former “One Tree Hill” actress, had gone through two divorces and a broken-off engagement with country singer Brantley Gilbert when she met former NFL player Mike Caussin in August of 2014. They met on Twitter, somehow, but their relationship had a bit of a rocky start.
They started dating, had a brief split, and then got engaged four months later. They welcomed their daughter Jolie, but a second separation came after a public cheating scandal. Yet again, the two came back together and welcomed a second child. Ultimately though, the drama was too much, and the couple divorced in 2021.
Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson
Let's use this next couple as a teaching moment. Famous pop singer Ariana Grande dated comedian Pete Davidson for only a few weeks before they got engaged in June 2018.
Someone close to the couple boasted that they're two people who found love quickly and make people happy all the time. They didn't hide their engagement and spent some time talking about the idea of marriage. And then they split up in October of 2018. Thank you, next.
Lyle Lovett & Julia Roberts
Within three weeks of meeting each other, country singer Lyle Lovett and actress Julia Roberts were married. The big day was in June of 1993, and miraculously the marriage lasted nearly two years.
According to Lovett, they never spent more than seven days together after they got married. He was busy touring with his band, and Roberts was still a very in-vogue actress, getting plenty of gigs.
Nicky Jam & Cydney Moreau
Singer-songwriter Nicky Jam dropped to one knee on Valentine's Day 2020 and popped to his girlfriend, model Cydney Moreau. It was a classic proposal with a ring in a box and friends there to celebrate.
The pair went public with their relationship in December of 2019, which comes a year after finalizing his divorce to his ex-wife Angelica Cruz. It was love at first sight since they met on the set of one of his music videos, but a year after the proposal, Nicky Jam announced he and Cydney were no longer together.
Danielle Staub & Olivier Maier
Log this one as one of the quickest we have on record. “Real Housewives of New Jersey” cast member Danielle Staub and Olivier Maier got engaged only four months after they met. Unfortunately, Staub had to wait until her previous marriage to Marty Caffrey would officially end.
Despite telling “PEOPLE” that she was marrying the man of her dreams, the pair split up in September of 2019. However, their engagement lasted just as long, if not longer than their dating relationship, at least.
Chris Pratt & Katherine Schwarzenegger
No doubt you're familiar with Chris Pratt thanks to his part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as his role on “Parks & Recreation.” You should also recognize his second wife's (he was married to Anna Faris for nine years) last name. The eldest child of bodybuilding and acting legend Arnold Schwarzenegger got engaged to Pratt after approximately seven months of dating.
Their engagement didn't even last that long, with the couple tying the knot in June. They got to work on their family quickly, welcoming daughter Lyla in August of 2020, and a second daughter in May 2023. They join Jack, Pratt's son from his first marriage.
Kevin Federline & Britney Spears
It was Britney Spears's second marriage, and people were just hoping it lasted longer than her first, which was a mere fifty-five hours.
Rapper K-Fed lasted longer than that – a whole three years – and the pair had two sons, but they spent only three months dating before deciding to tie the knot. Still, it was a big step forward for Britney as far as her relationships go, and she's continued to improve.
Pamela Anderson & Tommy Lee
We have another contender for the quickest engagement to come out of the celebrity world. Actress, model, and television personality Pamela Anderson needed a wild man to keep up with her, and the drummer for Mötley Crüe, Tommy Lee, was the perfect fit.
They got married only ninety-six hours after meeting for the first time. It was a surprise to everyone, including even Anderson's mother, who only heard about it from a magazine cover. Their wild relationship remained such for three years before the two split for good.
George Clooney & Amal Clooney
Famous leading man and silver fox George Clooney had gone on record saying he wouldn't marry after divorcing Talia Balsam, but that was before he met Amal Alamuddin, a Lebanese-British lawyer.
Sparks flew immediately, and they only dated for six months before George popped the question in 2014. They got hitched later that year and have since welcomed twins in 2017. This couple is still together and still proving there is love in the world.
Alice Kim & Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage got engaged to Alice Kim – a waitress – after a mere two months of dating. Their marriage lasted a dozen years before they separated in 2016.
They got married on a ranch in Northern California. She's twenty years his junior, but they were able to make things work for a while. Cage's five marriages are all tales in their own right, but at least they got a son out of this relationship: Kal-El. Cage is a huge Superman fan.
Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden
A May-December romance usually means a big difference in ages, but for actress Cameron Diaz and musician Benji Madden, it's a road map for how their relationship went. They started dating in May of 2014, and Madden popped the question in December.
They got married in 2015, and they're still together, which is nice to see. In January of 2020, they announced the birth of their daughter Raddix. And in 2024, their second son was born.
Ryan Lochte & Kayle Rae Reid
Even though he boasted about how successful he was on Tinder, this gold medal swimmer was hiding a secret – he was dating playmate Kayla Rae Reid. Well, they confirmed their relationship only a single month before they announced their engagement.
We have no indication of how long they had actually been seeing each other, but it appears they were interested in keeping things under wraps. The couple got married in January 2018, seven months after welcoming their first child, a son named Caiden Zane. They have since had two more kids.
Naya Rivera & Big Sean
While we never got a formal announcement of engagement from the late “Glee” actress Naya Rivera, she had confirmed her relationship with rapper Big Sean in April of 2013, and then six months later, she appeared in a magazine with a huge rock weighing her hand down.
Shortly after, Rivera was seen shopping for a wedding gown, but the couple decided to split ways in April 2014. Apparently, even though he put a ring on it, Big Sean wasn't all that excited about sticking with one woman for the rest of his life. Ironically, he has been with Jhene Aiko since 2016.
Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz
The youngest son of David and Victoria Beckham announced his relationship with "Transformers: Age of Extinction" actress Nicola Peltz in January 2020. The pair let the world know about their upcoming nuptials with matching social media posts on July 11th, just hours after the tabloids broke the news.
The messages they sent to each other were romantic, with Brooklyn promising to be the best husband and the best father he could be. It turns out the engagement was already two weeks old at that point. They eventually tied the knot in 2022.
Colton Haynes & Jeff Leatham
Actor Colton Haynes announced that he was dating celebrity florist Jeff Leatham on Valentine's Day, 2017. A month later, Leatham proposed.
The couple was vacationing in Mexico, and they decided it was meant to be. They got married the same year, just a few days before Halloween, in a lavish wedding that had plenty of guests. Kris Jenner, of all people, officiated the wedding. It turns out they should have dated a little while longer – Haynes filed for divorce only six months after the ceremony.
Justin Bieber & Hailey Baldwin
Dubbed “Jailey” by people who have too much time on their hands, this couple got engaged in the Bahamas after dating for only a few months.
However, while the engagement came in 2018, the pair had been friends for some time. Marriage seems to have been good for singer Bieber, whose path had taken him to more and more destructive tendencies. Since the wedding, however, things seem to have settled down.
Reese Witherspoon & Jim Toth
Famous actress Reese Witherspoon got engaged to Hollywood agent Jim Toth after a little less than a year of seeing each other. They got engaged in January of 2010 and then wed more than a year later in March of 2011.
They remained together for more than a decade, having added a baby boy in 2012. Witherspoon brings the two children she had with her previous husband Ryan Phillippe. But alas, it wasn't meant to be between Reese and Jim either, and the couple announced their divorce in March 2023.
Renée Zellweger & Kenny Chesney
Sometimes you just have to act fast. Coming off providing the voice of Angie in the noted cinematic disaster “Shark Tale,” Renee Zellweger met singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kenny Chesney early in 2005. The exact date isn't known, but it is well known that the two got married in May of the same year at a ceremony on the Virgin Islands.
Neither of these celebs likes to drag their feet, meaning not only did the marriage come together quickly, but it dissolved just as fast, with Zellweger obtaining an annulment just four months later.
Carey Mulligan & Marcus Mumford
While this actress and musician couple only spent five months dating before they got engaged, the story is actually a bit longer. Long before either of them had reached any kind of fame, they were childhood pen pals, exchanging letters and getting to know each other.
With one now at the head of a world-famous band and the other starring in Hollywood films, the two were able to come back together. They got married in 2012 and have since welcomed three children.
Amy Schumer & Chris Fischer
It was a shock to everyone when Amy Schumer announced that she was married to celebrity chef Chris Fischer. The wedding happened on February thirteenth, 2018 – and apparently, the couple had only been planning for a few days.
The world only got confirmation of the relationship on February 11th, though they had been spotted together in November of the previous year. While the couple had been friends for six months, their dating relationship was reportedly not even that long. Chris woke her up in the middle of the night to ask the big question.
Lana Del Rey & Clayton Johnson
Eight months after the famous “Summertime Sadness” singer broke up with Sean Larkin, a Tulsa police lieutenant, Lana Del Rey and Clayton Johnson confirmed their engagement. Del Rey and the guitarist for Stereo Skyline had been dating for only three months.
They were first linked when Johnson left a rather spicy comment on Del Rey's Instagram page, which is how things go nowadays. Lana was first spotted wearing a diamond ring in a Halloween photo. However, it seems that the two went their separate ways as for 2021.
Avril Lavigne & Chad Kroeger
Chad Kroeger – who heads the world's most hated band Nickelback – and Avril Lavigne – who has been a pop singer since the tender age of fifteen – both hail from Canada. They announced their intent to marry after a mere six months of dating each other.
They tied the knot in 2013, both dressed in black. But the pair broke up in 2015, showing that a shared country of origin isn't enough.
Aaron Rodgers & Shailene Woodley
As he was accepting the MVP honor for the 2020 NFL season, Aaron Rodgers dropped a bomb that even his biggest fans didn't expect – he thanked his fiancee. He'd been dating professional driver Danica Patrick for some time, and the two had broken up in the summer.
Then, he popped the question to Shailene Woodley. The “Divergent” actress and the QB for the Green Bay Packers seemed very happy together; a source told “PEOPLE” magazine. Unfortunately, it appears that since then, the two called off the engagement.
Jade Roper & Tanner Tolbert
These two met right at the beginning of “Bachelor in Paradise,” and it seemed impossible that the show was going to get any other ending than these two getting engaged in the season's finale.
While relationships that begin on the show don't always end the right way, this one is still going strong, with the couple still together after getting married in 2016. They now have a bundle of kids, beginning with daughter Emerson in August of 2017.
Nikki Reed & Ian Somerhalder
Not long after she separated from her husband Paul McDonald, Nikki Reed turned her sights to Ian Somerhalder, an actor best known for playing Boone Carlyle on “Lost.”
They dated for six months, got engaged in January 2015, and then tied the knot three months later in April. So many of the relationships on this list have gone the way of the dodo, so we're happy to report that Reed and Somerhalder are still doing life together. They have two kids, and the couple is known to be quite protective of their little ones. Sometimes a short courtship really will work in the long run.
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth
Liam Hemsworth proposed to pop star Miley Cyrus twice – the first time was in 2012 after the couple had been dating for three years. They decided to take a step back, but they reunited in 2016, and the question came up a second time.
Miley didn't think she was ready for marriage, so they stayed away from the aisle for a little while. The pair surprised everyone by getting married a few days before Christmas in 2018, but they separated less than a year later in August.
Josiah Duggar & Lauren Swanson
The Duggar family was one of those groups that became famous in the last few years just because of reality TV, and one of the many children from the family, Josiah, got married to his wife Lauren after just six weeks of courtship.
The couple got married a few months after their March engagement, in June of 2018.
Naya Rivera & Ryan Dorsey
Just a few months after she called off her engagement to rapper Big Sean, Naya Rivera got married to Ryan Dorsey. You know him from “Ray Donovan,” “Justified,” and “Bosch.” The courtship was a short one, but they still remained together for four years.
The divorce was quickly finalized, and sadly Rivera won't have the chance to make it up – a freak accident resulted in her death by drowning in California in 2020. She and Dorsey had a son, Josey, who thankfully survived the accident and lives with his father.
Katy Perry & Russell Brand
California Girl Katy Perry and English comedian Russell Brand couldn't keep their hands off of each other. They moved fast: They met in 2009, announced their relationship in November of the same year, and their engagement in January 2010.
They got married in October of 2010 in a Hindu ceremony in India. But it simply wasn't meant to be, as the two split up in 2011.
Elsa Pataky & Chris Hemsworth
The man who played Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Hemsworth, met Elsa Pataky – a Spanish model and actress – thanks to mutual contacts.
They had only been public with their relationship for three months before they got married in a Christmas weekend ceremony in 2010. They've been together ever since, having three children together. If you've seen “Thor: The Dark World,” you've seen Pataky – she plays Jane Foster at the end of the movie for the kiss scene.
Ellie Goulding & Caspar Jopling
While most of these celebrity engagements are on the short side, this is one of the few that might be longer than the average. Singer/songwriter Ellie Goulding finally got engaged to her boyfriend of eighteen months when he popped the question during the summer of 2018.
The announcement included Ellie's real name, Elena, and was posted in the British newspaper “The Times.” Caspar is an English singer/songwriter. The two got married in August 2019, and in February of 2021, Ellie announced they were expecting their first child. Her son was born at the end of April the same year. Sadly though, Goulding and Jopling separated in 2024.
Cheryl Tweedy & Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini
Cheryl Tweedy shocked her fans when she revealed that she had married her boyfriend Jean-Bernard at a secret island wedding. The pair had begun dating in April of 2014 and married in July. Cheryl is a rather private celebrity. She only announced she was dating J-B F-V after they were spotted together.
After 18 months of marriage, the couple split, with a divorce finalized in October 2016. We like to think that Cheryl thought marrying somebody with enough names to balance her one out was going to make everything perfect. No such luck.
Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries
Everything the Kardashians do happens quickly. Case in point, this whirlwind romance between the most famous of the Kardashian siblings and her second husband, former pro basketball player Kris Humphries.
According to our sources, they dated for only three months before getting engaged. Their marriage wasn't even that long – it lasted only seventy-two days. Out of the three of Kim's marriages, it had both the shortest dating period and was the shortest after getting to the altar.
Demi Lovato & Max Ehrich
Four months after singer Demi Lovato and the former “Young and the Restless” actor, Max Ehrich, started dating, he popped the question. It was on July 23ed, 2020. Lovato made the news known on their social media with a series of photos after Ehrich got down on one knee.
Lovato admitted that the man who had proposed to them made them want to be the best version of themselves. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way since the pair parted ways in September of the same year, without making it to the altar and after a mere two months of betrothal.
Mariah Carey & James Packer
They became an official couple in June of 2015 and then got engaged in January the next year. James Packer, a businessman, and investor presented the famous songstress with a massive thirty-five-carat diamond ring.
Their engagement began in New York City, but it ended in Greece while they were on vacation in the same year, thanks to an epic blowup fight. Did she return the ring? We have to imagine if she tore it off her finger and hurled it at him, it could have done significant damage, no matter where it landed.
