In 2013, in a move light years away from the purity rings of their teenage years, the youngest Jonas Brothers member uploaded a shirtless selfie that had the entire internet feeling a bit hot under their collar.
Writing “I never do this but… Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0.” Nick uploaded a very revealing picture of himself wearing just a pair of very low-rise pants. Naturally, his fans went wild for this new and mature look, and started wondering why exactly he “never” posts photos like this!
Music in Their Blood
It’s no surprise that the Jonas brothers have so much musical talent — it turns out that music is in their DNA! Their father Kevin Sr. met their mother Denise while they were both a part of a singing group at their church.
Dad Kevin began working at a Dallas religious college called Christ for the Nations Institute as an ordained minister. There, he wrote and recorded Christian music while also teaching songwriting — something we’re sure he taught his sons too.
On the Road
Before they were touring the world in decked-out expensive tour buses, the Jonas brothers were packed into their family’s car as they followed their dad. As a music teacher for a religious college, he often took Christian bands and musicians on the road.
With him were his little musicians-in-training: Kevin, Nick, and Joe. The Jonas family often traveled and moved around due to their father’s work. That’s probably how each Jonas brother was born in a different state.
Lucky Three
Before their temporary breakup, the Jonas brothers were known to be very close-knit and now we know why — the three brothers are quite similar in age! Older brother Kevin was born in 1987, while younger brother Joe was born two years later in 1989.
The trio was complete when younger brother Nick was born in 1992, rounding out what would become the band. The boys often traveled with their parents where they learned about the music industry. Taking part in their musical upbringing was their youngest brother Frankie who was born in 2000.
New York, Here We Come!
In 1996, the Jonas brothers would get one step closer to their dreams of music stardom when their father was offered a minister position at a church in Wyckoff, New Jersey — a suburb about an hour away from New York City.
Nick Jonas’ mother once joked that her son used to make tickets out of construction paper, and charge “audience members” $5 to watch him perform with his brothers! Who knew that in a decade, fans would be shelling out hundreds of dollars to see the brothers perform?
Beauty Shop Beginnings
From a young age, Nick knew that he wanted to pursue music. As a child, he would often grab kitchen utensils like a spoon and pretend it was a microphone. One day, when his mother was at a beauty salon, Nick, like most kids, got bored.
The six-year-old began to sing, catching the attention of a woman who then introduced Nick’s mother to a talent manager. Mother Denise brought her three sons to meet the talent manager. Upon meeting the talented trio, the manager decided to sign all three brothers. Their path to superstardom had just started.
Taste of Fame
Still not even teenagers, the Jonas brothers were now on their way to a career in show business. After a chance encounter with a talent manager, the three were now signed to an agency that quickly found older brothers Kevin and Joe parts in commercials for big brands like Clorox, Office Depot, and even Burger King.
Nick even appeared in a cringe-worthy commercial for Chuck E. Cheese (remember that place?). Who knew that the Jonas brothers got their start promoting fast food and entertainment centers?
Broadway Bound
While his older brothers Joe and Kevin were promoting fast food and cleaning products in nationally-televised commercials, younger brother Nick was pursuing something closer to home and to his heart — Broadway.
At just eight years old, Nick was treading the floors of Broadway in his first production — "A Christmas Carol." Soon other roles opened up for the budding star, acting alongside country-legend Reba McEntire in "Annie Get Your Gun" and roles in Broadway classics like "Les Misérables" and "Beauty and the Beast ." Nick’s music theater career was on a roll!
Brothers Follow Nick
While Nick was putting on shows on Broadway, his brothers were concentrating on acting. Though they still loved music, the only time they practiced it was singing in their church choir. Joe really did not want to pursue music as a career.
Surprisingly, he quickly changed his tune when he was cast in Baz Luhrmann’s "La Bohéme." Meanwhile, the oldest Jonas Brother, Kevin, began teaching himself how to play guitar when he stayed home from school one day. While most of us would catch up on guilty pleasure tv shows, Kevin was perfecting his musical talent.
Break From Broadway
Even as a child, Nick Jonas accomplished more than most adults. While performing in the Broadway production of "Beauty and the Beast," Nick and his father wrote a holiday-themed song called “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)”.
The song, which featured backup vocals from the production's cast members, became part of a compilation album called Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4 . This song caught the attention of Columbia Records’ INO Records who signed Nick and released a re-recorded version of the song as well as a new single called “Dear God”.
Nick, a Solo Artist
Now signed to a record label, and with two singles getting airtime on Christian radio stations, it seemed like Nick was one more step closer to fame. Sadly, the young teen was dealt a blow when his debut solo album "Nicholas Jonas" received a very limited release, and plans for a wider release were canceled.
The rejection of his first record, which was co-written by his older brothers who also provided background vocals, hit the young star hard. It turns out that while the label’s president didn’t like his record, he did like Nick’s voice.
Signed!
Still not old enough to see a PG-13 movie, Nick was signed to Columbia Records. With a few Broadway credits under his belt, the young artist was on his way to superstardom.
Tagging along for the ride were his two older brothers, Joe and Kevin who also got signed after Columbia Records president, Steve Greenberg (pictured), heard the brothers’ song “Please Be Mine”. This was great news for Kevin who had been hitting the streets of the Big Apple trying to catch a break in commercials or auditioning to be part of bands.
The Jonas Brothers Are Born!
The Jonas brothers’ lives were changed by Steve Greenberg, the same guy who gave the world boy band Hanson and their addictive hit, “MMMBop”.
Greenberg saw the brothers’ potential and wanted to craft the three brothers into teen heartthrobs of the 2000s. He convinced them to start their own band called (rather uncreatively), The Jonas Brothers. Who knew that in a few years, a mere glimpse at the brothers would cause chaos and leave fans fainting from excitement!
Naming Names
Before they could begin making music, the brothers had to pick a name. Before deciding on the Jonas Brothers, they considered the very religious-sounding “Sons of Jonas”. Thankfully, the Jonas Brothers stuck. The brothers got to work on what would be their debut studio album.
Throughout 2005, they toured with some of the biggest pop acts of that year including Jesse McCartney, The Click Five, Kelly Clarkson, and even the Backstreet Boys. We wonder if the Backstreet Boys gave them any tips on how to deal with hordes of screaming fans.
New Album
In 2006, the band dropped their debut single, “Mandy,” a song about a girl Joe Jonas once dated. At the same time, the brothers appeared on several Disney Channel soundtracks and toured with pop-star sisters, Aly & AJ.
Despite all that promotion, and working with music producers who worked with major groups like Destiny’s Child and Aerosmith, the brother’s album "It’s About Time" got little to no action. Things got so bad that in 2007 the brothers were dropped by their label. Imagine if they had given up and denied 'Jonatics' the joys of their music?
Now What?
Without a label, the brothers didn’t know what to do. They began appearing in commercials for the candy Baby Bottle Pops. Thankfully, the boys could soon stop promoting candy because they were signed to another label — Hollywood Records, a Disney-owned record label.
Soon, the band released a song and music video for their single, “Year 3000”. The song, a cover of a song by British boy band Busted, became a huge hit and helped launch their career. Clad in skinny jeans and scarves, the Jonas Brothers were on their way to pop stardom.
Fame
In August of 2007, the boys released an album called "Jonas Brothers." Despite the lack of a creative name, the album reached the top five of the Billboard Hot 200 charts. The brothers also got a boost when they appeared on an episode of Hannah Montana called "Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas".
It seemed Disney Channel and the Jonas Brothers were a match made in heaven because their appearance broke records with an estimated 10.7 million viewers tuning in! Their success continued with hits like “Hold On” and the single “S.O.S”.
Money Money Money
It’s hard to imagine a time when the Jonas Brothers didn’t have enough money to pay a tour bus driver, but this actually happened. Before they were attracting thousands of fans for their concerts, money was tight for the Jonas family.
Their father, Kevin Jonas Sr. had lost his job after the church found out he was partaking in secular music, and times were tough. One frustrated bus driver was so upset at not getting paid, that he left the boys “in the middle of nowhere for more than twelve hours,” until dad finally paid up.
Camp Rock
Starring alongside former child-star Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers got even more attention with their roles in the Disney Channel original movie, "Camp Rock." The brothers played members of a fictitious group called Connect 3.
The film, which featured the boys in some rather questionable early 2000s clothing (think lots of skinny scarves and even skinnier jeans! ) became a huge hit. In addition to acting, the brothers released a soundtrack for the film. The film was so successful that the boys returned for the sequel in 2010, called "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam."
Burnin’ Up the Charts
The Jonas Brothers soon found themselves frequent fixtures at the top of the music charts with hits like “S.O.S”, “Burnin’ Up”, and the Miley Cyrus collaboration “We Got the Party”. Not too shabby!
Their luck continued with other major hits like “Hold On” and “When You Look Me in the Eyes”. Joe Jonas continued to win the hearts of his Disney fans with the collaboration with Demi Lovato on the song “This Is Me” which reached the top ten on the Billboard charts and sold almost a million copies.
The Brothers Get a Reality Check
While it seemed that life couldn't be better for the Jonas Brothers, many fans didn’t know that Nick was hiding a secret — he had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
His everyday health struggles inspired one of the band's biggest hits, “A Little Bit Longer'', a song Nick wrote one day when he was struggling to balance his sugar levels. Nick even revealed that he’s found himself struggling to maintain his sugar levels while performing, but is thankful that his brothers are always there to support him and have his back.
From Opening to Starring
The Jonas Brothers may have started in the same way as many Disney Channel stars (starring in Disney Channel original movies and shows), but the boys soon became stars in their own right.
Though they starred in an episode of "Hannah Montana" and opened for Miley Cyrus, the boys soon became stars with their own loyal fans. Soon, the roaring crowds were chanting “Jonas Brothers” and hundreds of fans would line the streets just to be in the same vicinity as the talented trio of brothers.
Miley
It seems that the Jonas Brothers, or rather one brother, got a bit too close to Miley Cyrus when they joined her "Best of Both Worlds" Tour. Much to the dismay of their fans, Nick and Miley started dating. They dated for two years before calling it quits in 2007.
Miley told news outlets that their breakup was devastating and inspired her to dye her famous blonde hair dark. She even joked that she would one day end up marrying Nick. Considering Miley is now a divorcée, maybe Priyanka Chopra should watch her back?
Jonas Brothers, Reality Stars
Reality television reached its peak in the early 2000s, so it only made sense the Jonas Brothers would get their own show. The boys starred in the Disney Channel reality show, "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream."
The show focused on the band as they embarked on their "Look Me in the Eyes" tour across the United States and Mexico. They went back to reality television with the 2008 Disney Channel Games. There, the boys competed in games to support various charities. Who knew the boys had athletic skills in addition to being talented musicians?
Purity Rings and Other Things
It’s not every day that the accessories worn by a band make the news, but at the start of their career, the tabloids just couldn’t stop talking about the Jonas Brothers’ purity rings.
As the children of an ordained minister and bible school teacher, it’s no surprise that the Jonas Brothers have a special connection to their faith. One way that they connected to their faith was by wearing purity rings — rings that symbolized their pledge to abstain until marriage. The rings quickly inspired countless jokes and parodies.
Joe’s Faux Pas Phone call
We’ve all made mistakes when it comes to relationships. Unfortunately, Joe Jonas messed with the wrong woman — the queen of breakup songs, Taylor Swift. After splitting in 2008, it emerged that Joe broke up with her over the phone. Seriously Joe?
In true Taylor form, she penned a song about the experience called “Forever & Always” on her chart-topping album, "Fearless". Taylor even stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show where she went into detail about the breakup telling the talk show host and audience that Joe broke up with her “ in 25 seconds” over the phone!
This Means War!
Taylor Swift’s release of “Forever & Always” was just the beginning of her tension with Joe Jonas. In response to her song, Joe Jonas and his brothers dropped a song called “Much Better” (which we could only imagine is how he wanted to appear after dating Taylor).
Things got even more awkward when Taylor called out Joe by name when hosting Saturday Night Live, referring to him as “that guy who broke up with me on the phone” Ouch! Thankfully, today, the two have apparently buried the hatchet. Taylor even referred to the incident as “some teenage stuff.”
Jonas Brothers Mania
In the summer of 2008, the Jonas Brothers mania took over the Big Apple when they appeared on the daytime news show "Good Morning America." Apparently, some fans even fainted upon seeing the band!
The craziness continued when the boys visited TRL (remember that show?) where they attracted hundreds of screaming girls who were lined up in the pouring rain across the street from the studio hoping to catch a glimpse at the teen heartthrobs. With comparisons to the chaos that the Beatles would attract, it seemed that the Jonas Brothers were officially pop stars!
A Bonus Jonas
Apparently, three Jonas brothers just weren’t enough. In 2000, the youngest Jonas family member, Frankie, was born. Known jokingly as the “bonus Jonas'', he made his debut on an episode of MTV’s TRL with his famous brothers.
After that appearance, Frankie provided the voice for the character Sōsuke in the animated film "Ponyo," alongside another Disney Channel celebrity sibling, Noah Cyrus. He also appeared as a recurring character on his brother’s Disney Channel show, "JONAS". While he doesn’t like being called the “bonus Jonas” anymore, Frankie is carving out his own identity away from his famous brothers.
Famous Faces
In 2009, the Jonas Brothers appeared on the Valentine’s Day episode of "Saturday Night Live," hosted by actor Alec Baldwin. The hilarious episode featured skits involving Alec Baldwin pretending to be a fourth Jonas Brother member. The episode also featured a now-famous person — Hailey Baldwin.
In the episode, a young Hailey (complete with braces and bangs) stood next to her famous uncle as they introduced the band. While it must have been cool for Hailey to meet the band considering she was such a fan, we’re sure the supermodel doesn't want to relive those unfortunate braces!
The Jonas Brothers … In 3D!
In 2009, for some reason, the world decided that we not only needed a full-length movie about the Jonas Brothers, but we needed said movie to be in 3D. "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" took viewers behind-the-scenes of the brothers’ Burnin’ Up tour.
From rehearsals to snippets of the brothers’ personal lives, fans got to see a day in the life of their favorite Jonas brother. As an added bonus, and in case they didn’t have enough screaming teen fans, the boys nonchalantly walked around shirtless in many of the scenes!
All the Single Ladies
It’s fair to say that we all remember where we were when we heard Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies”. While most of us were haphazardly trying to recreate Queen Bey’s fierce moves, the viral video inspired countless parodies including a hilarious one starring Joe Jonas.
It turns out that while Joe is a massive fan of Beyoncé, the reason why he suited up in that infamous black leotard and heels was because of a contest he had with his fans. The video quickly received millions of views and even shut down the Jonas Brothers’ YouTube channel!
Jersey Boys and Jersey Girls
While his brothers were linked to some of young Hollywood’s biggest stars, the older Jonas brother, Kevin, always preferred dating a bit closer to home. In 2009, after much speculation, Kevin proposed to his girlfriend, and fellow-New Jersey native, Danielle Deleasa.
Kevin had met the former hairdresser two years before while they were both vacationing in the Bahamas. It seems that Danielle must have known her fiancé was destined for great things as she met him when he, and his brothers, were still struggling musicians.
No Thanks…
Being an international pop star can come with perks, but sometimes it can mean you’re the recipient of some truly weird gifts. In 2009, the Jonas Brothers were left saying “huh?” when they were given a preserved shark by a fan. The shark had been preserved in a tube, which was then given to the band members.
While this gift was strange, others were sweet. One fan actually adopted a hippo in the name of the brothers. Though they’ve never visited “their” hippo, they said that they would love to “visit it and hang out with it!”
Nick on the Side
After years of performing as a trio, the youngest Jonas wanted to explore a music career outside of his brotherly band. In late 2009, Nick announced that he would be performing with a new group called Nick Jonas and the Administration.
While the band played some Jonas Brothers hits, they also performed original songs. Upon performing at the 2009 Grammy Nominations Concert Live special, Nick mentioned that “It definitely was different.” We can imagine! The band’s album, "Who I Am," received mixed reviews, and Nick resumed recording with his brothers soon after.
Kevin Gets Married
Despite the frigid temperatures outside, Kevin was “Burnin’ Up”…with love for his bride. In 2009, Kevin wed Danielle Deleasa in a winter wonderland-themed wedding. Brothers Nick and Joe were by his side as his best men. The Jo Bros weren't the only famous faces at the wedding.
Jordin Sparks was there, as was "Camp Rock" co-star, Demi Lovato. The biggest surprise of the evening came when Joe revealed that it was actually him who hit on Danielle first, and joked he was the “one responsible for getting them together.” We’re sure that must have been awkward!
Judge Jonas
He may not have a British accent, but Joe Jonas gave Simon Cowell a run for his money. The young musician hosted "American Idol" in 2010. Coming to help out at the Texas auditions, Joe joined Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara DioGuardi.
Joe helped decide which Texans would make it to Hollywood. Though Joe was much nicer than Simon, he still tried to be as honest as possible. As one of the biggest names in music, we're sure he had a lot of thoughts about how to make it in the industry!
Couples Touring Together
Most people are usually against dating someone who works in the same place as them, but then again, most people aren’t the Jonas Brothers. In 2010, Joe Jonas broke one of the most popular rules about dating and hooked up with his tourmate, and Camp Rock co-star, Demi Lovato.
Though the pair had been friends for years, they decided to turn their relationship romantic (conveniently before the release of their Camp Rock sequel). Though the couple broke up shortly after, they supposedly remained friends even after Demi’s health scare in late 2010.
Taking a Break
Being part of a band can be an amazing experience, but it can also make you want to become your own artist. After 2010, the Jonas brothers began pursuing different things. Nick with his band Nick and the Administration, Kevin with his new marriage, and Joe with his 2011 solo album "Fastlife."
Joe Jonas took inspiration from pop R&B artists for his single “See No More” and “Just in Love with You”. While the brothers never officially mentioned that they were disbanding, it seemed that they had all moved on and done being the Jonas Brothers.
Nick Goes Back to Broadway Roots
Though he'd taken part in some of the biggest hits on Broadway, Nick Jonas wasn't done with musical theater. He went on to score a starring role as main character Finch in the popular production, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."
Nick got to exercise his acting chops by performing the show eight times a week to live audiences. The actor admitted that while he had acted in a variety of television shows, performing live was a challenge. Thankfully, his hard work paid off and the show was well-reviewed by theater critics.
Married to Jonas
The Jonas Brothers are no strangers to reality television. From behind-the-scenes footage of their concerts to the guys getting their tan on in their Los Angeles vacation home, the brothers are used to letting the cameras into their most intimate moments.
In 2012, Kevin Jonas opened his home to E!’s cameras with a reality show titled "Married to Jonas." The show, which followed Kevin and his wife Danielle, became a hit on the celebrity news network. While Kevin was happy to take part in the show, his brothers seemed less into being recorded.
The Brothers’ Peppy Comeback
While the three brothers had all explored different avenues, in early 2013, they came together to record and release what would become one of their greatest hits, “Pom Poms.” The peppy high-school-inspired melody was actually a last-minute addition to their album.
Fans welcomed the lighthearted track amongst some more mature or darker songs (well, as dark as the Jonas brothers could be). As for what the song is about, apparently, it was inspired by actress Sofia Vergara. We can only imagine what the song is referring to!
Advice, Jonas Style
If there's one thing that people in the entertainment industry have often said about the Jonas Brothers, it’s that their maturity far exceeds their age. Even as teenagers, they were known for their level-headedness. In 2013, the boys decided to share their wisdom with teen-heartthrob Justin Bieber.
The boys, who visited the reality talk show "Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen," had some wise words for the headline-grabbing young star. While the boys sympathized with Bieber’s youth and media scrutiny, Nick Jonas said that “he just has to get through a season of growth."
Living a Lie
While it was well known that Joe Jonas had dated his "Camp Rock" co-star, Demi Lovato, fans had no idea just how challenging that relationship was for the two of them. This was due to Demi’s substance abuse issues.
Demi’s mental health problems began to affect her relationship with Joe as he felt like he “needed to take care of her.” Even though he “wasn’t happy,” he felt pressured to stay in the relationship to help. The worst part of it all? He says “I couldn’t express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect.'' Wow!
The Look That Still Makes Joe Cringe
Just like us, some celebrities cringe when they look back on their past styles or looks. Apparently, Joe can’t bear to see himself in the Camp Rock films because “my dance moves in ‘Camp Rock’ were so terrible.”
While we kind of have to agree (sorry Joe!), he goes on to make fun of his flat iron feathered hair and “squeaky voice” calling them “a little embarrassing”. Thankfully, Joe is now one of the most fashion-forward men in the industry and we are honestly glad he put down the flat iron!
The Shirtless Selfie That Broke the Internet
In 2013, in a move light years away from the purity rings of their teenage years, the youngest Jonas Brothers member uploaded a shirtless selfie that had the entire internet feeling a bit hot under their collar.
Writing “I never do this but... Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0." Nick uploaded a very revealing picture of himself wearing just a pair of very low-rise pants. Naturally, his fans went wild for this new and mature look, and started wondering why exactly he “never” posts photos like this!
Trying Times Indeed
Like the title of their 2009 album, "Lines, Vines and Trying Times" it seemed that 2013 was a difficult year for the Jonas Brothers. That fall, they canceled their tour due to "a deep rift within the band. There was a big disagreement over the musical direction."
Fans were devastated and prayed that it wasn’t so. Considering the band had just started performing again after a period of independent projects, fans were quite confused. Things got stranger when a rep for the band cryptically stated that the future of the band “remains to be seen.”
Bear With Us
Weeks after the Jonas Brothers mysteriously canceled their 19-date tour across the country, fans were seriously terrified that their favorite band would be breaking up…for real this time. Their fears were confirmed when Joe Jonas revealed that he was considering pursuing a career in acting and producing music (for people other than his brothers).
In an effort to alleviate their fan’s concerns, Nick simply implored his fans to bear with them. Considering that most of their audience consisted mainly of screaming teenagers, it seemed like quite the request!
The Breakup Tour
It’s one thing to have a breakup in private, it’s another to have to explain the reason behind your split to millions of people in front of a camera. The boys went on "Good Morning America" to try to explain to fans why they would be no more.
It turns out that the brother with the big breakup idea was Nick. He didn't say much, only that there were issues and complications. It seemed that the boys decided it would be best if they went their separate ways.
Impromptu Concert Leaves Fans Feeling confused
Just weeks after the Jonas Brothers officially announced their breakup, referring to it as “closing a chapter,” the brothers surprised everyone when Joe and Nick took the stage at the Telehit Awards concert in Mexico City.
While his two younger brothers performed south of the border, Kevin was suspiciously missing. Fans were quite confused as to why the brothers were performing together but were honestly just happy to see them perform, even if it was just two-thirds of the group.
Joe Talks Breakup
Knowing his fans weren’t satisfied with the generic explanation provided by the band in the media and on their social media, Joe wanted to be honest with fans. He told Vulture magazine that their issues had been “going on for a lot longer than people thought” and that the brothers just weren't “jelling.”
Joe admitted that he freaked out when Nick mentioned disbanding and said that it didn’t make sense to him. It seemed that the middle brother was deeply affected by the band's breakup, but ultimately admitted that “there were a lot of dysfunctional things going on”. Yikes!
An Ode to Rita Ora
It seems Nick Jonas has always had a thing for the older ladies. He was apparently so enamored with singer Rita Ora, that he penned a song about a woman named Rita, or rather being romantically rejected by a woman named Rita.
“What Do I Mean To You” features romantic lyrics that left fans seriously puzzled. In an even stranger twist, Rita told "Watch What Happens Live" host Andy Cohen that she didn’t understand the lyrics because they actually never dated and that it was the first time she heard of his romantic feelings towards her. Awkward!
Pressure to Be Perfect
With their religious background and proud flaunting of their purity rings, the whole squeaky-clean image was beginning to weigh the brothers down. They were under huge amounts of pressure to maintain a clean image by the Disney Channel.
In a revealing Vulture interview, Joe mentioned that the backlash other “fallen” Disney stars received made the trio feel like they couldn't ever mess up. He stated that the pressure to maintain a clean-cut image was “ the kind of pressure that no teenager should be under."
Kevin Inspired a Meme
In addition to worrying about getting caught off guard in an unflattering pose, celebrities have to worry about being used in a meme. In 2015, a picture of Kevin Jonas standing alone in a corner with a confused facial expression became the “Lonely Kevin” meme.
With captions comparing the concerned-looking JoBro to a kid lost in a grocery store, fans put their own spin on the picture. Though Kevin initially didn’t like being part of the joke, he has come to terms with it and can now say that he appreciates it.
Nick, a Serious Actor
After the band officially split in 2013, Nick went back to his acting roots with roles in television shows like the horror-comedy "Scream Queens" and the action-packed drama, "Kingdom".
Nick also made his mark in films like the erotic thriller "Careful What You Wish For," the historical film "Midway", and the remake of the Jumanji films. He really can do it all.
Sugar Coating
It turns out that the Jonas Brothers’ purity rings didn’t affect just their love lives, but also their career. Joe revealed that because of the purity rings and their association with Disney, they had to nix any lyric that was remotely risque.
Joe added that even a lyric about the boys being alone in a room with a girl would have to be rewritten. Wow! He said the strict rules about what they could or could not sing about made them feel like they couldn’t be creative and that it affected the quality of their music.
Close Encounters
Have you ever dreamt of going on a date with one of the Jonas Brothers? What may have been a pipe-dream for most fans was actually not that far-fetched. It turns out that the brothers have actually gotten a bit up-close-and-personal with their fans in the past if you know what we mean.
Joe Jonas admitted that he had his share of close encounters with fans. He even recalls how an innocent movie date with a fan turned into much more. Who knew that there was once a chance for a fan to become Mrs. Jonas?
Joe’s Cake by the Ocean
In 2015, Joe Jonas, used the help of friends and musicians drummer Jack Lawless, guitarist JinJoo Lee, and bassist/keyboardist Cole Whittle, to start his own band — DNCE. The dance-rock group quickly shot up in the music charts with their upbeat hit “Cake by the Ocean”.
The success of the track was followed by hits like “Toothbrush” and “Kissing Strangers” featuring Nicki Minaj.
Snow Storm Jonas
Never ones to take themselves too seriously, the Jonas Brothers and their fans went into pun and joke overdrive when a winter snowstorm slammed into the East Coast in 2016. Soon the hashtag #WinterStormJonas began trending with fans using Jonas Brothers' songs as puns like "#winterstormjonas is coming so #HoldOn".
Some Twitter users made jokes at the brothers’ expense with one person writing “I don't know why people are stressed about Winter Jonas, I know everyone is expecting it but it'll get canceled two days before its arrival.” Ouch! We all know what she’s referring to!
Southern Spirit
The Jonas brothers may be Jersey boys but that doesn’t mean that their family has forgotten their southern roots. In 2016, the brothers opened a southern eatery with their parents. Called Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, it is located in Belmont, North Carolina.
The restaurant, named after their great-grandmother, opened in the same city where the Jonas brothers’ family lived and worked. The restaurant serves southern classics like fried chicken, grits, and chicken and dumplings. We're sure fans flocked there not just to eat, but also for the chance to run into a Jonas brother!
Joe’s New Girl
In 2016, Joe broke the hearts of millions of Jonas Brothers fans when news broke that he was dating "Game of Thrones" actress, Sophie Turner. After being spotted getting cozy at concerts and even attending a wedding together, the couple became Instagram official (the most important celebrity relationship declaration) in January 2017.
That year the pair defined #CoupleGoals when they adopted an adorable husky named Porky. Fans’ tears poured once again when the pair announced their engagement in October of that year.
The Romance That Brought Taylor and Selena Together
Though neither of their relationships worked out, it’s nice to know that Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were able to leave the brothers with a solid female friendship on their hands. In 2017, Selena Gomez revealed that she and Taylor were both dating Jonas brothers in 2008 (Selena with Nick while Taylor dated Joe).
While Joe and Taylor’s relationship notoriously inspired some of her most dramatic breakup songs, Selena’s relationship with Nick was more like puppy love. Selena even joked that her friendship with Taylor was “the best thing we got out of those relationships.” Ouch!
Nick’s New Love
Though they attended the 2017 Met Gala together, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra were once just friends (imagine putting Nick Jonas in the friendzone!). Flash forward to 2018 and the two told the public that they were now in a relationship.
In the summer of that year, Nick made things official when he put a ring on it and proposed to Priyanka. The couple kept their engagement hush-hush until they partook in a traditional and spiritual ceremony called a Roka ceremony in Mumbai. There, Nick’s family and Priyanka’s family met at the pre-wedding ceremony.
They’re Back!
In early 2019, the Jonas Brothers made an announcement that had their fans “Burnin’ Up” — the band announced that they would be getting back together and releasing new music.
Though their fans were now past being young teeny-boppers, the internet basically lost it when the boys released a teaser for their next tune, a catchy comeback song called “Sucker”. This was their first release since their scrapped album and their unexpected tour cancellation. Fans couldn’t wait to hear the Joans Brothers’ new music!
A Marriage of Two Worlds
Though Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra come from different backgrounds, the two stars wanted to combine their unique cultures and religious beliefs for their wedding. They had two wedding ceremonies — a Hindu wedding ceremony and a Western one that Nick’s father, an ordained minister, officiated.
In addition to the two glamorous weddings, the two participated in a variety of traditional pre-wedding ceremonies including a henna design party known as a Mehendi. The festive union was followed by a party where friends and family offered their blessings for the new couple.
Bring Your Wife to Work Day
For their comeback single “Sucker,” Joe and Nick recruited their gorgeous better halves (Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner) to join them as they ran around in an elegant British estate. Even Danielle, Kevin’s wife, had fun acting in the over-the-top music video.
Wearing period costumes and lounging about in luxurious outdoor bubble baths, it wasn’t a bad day at the office! Many people think you shouldn’t mix romance and work but this time it totally worked.
Carpool Karaoke
After a long hiatus, the Jonas Brothers were back and ready to hit the late-night talk shows. Their most important stop? "The Late Late Show" with James Corden. There, the boys took part in the show's most famous segment — Carpool Karaoke.
After belting out classics like “When You Look Me in the Eyes”, things got real. The boys admitted that their reunion was due to undergoing some “forced therapy.” They were even forced to undergo a lie detector test where they were asked about their past experiences with Disney and those infamous purity rings.
The Met Gala
The Met Gala is one of the biggest nights in fashion, but for the Jonas Brothers, 2019's Gala was all about romance. While Kevin stayed home with his family, Nick and Joe hit the red carpet. Both Joe and his wife Sophie Turner wore ‘80s- style geometric patterns.
Nick and wife Priyanka Chopra went for a more futuristic with their ensembles, with Nick wearing a white suit and Priyanka wearing a metallic bustier and feather mesh cape.
The Religious Tension Behind the Scenes
It’s hard to imagine anyone thinking that the Jonas Brothers’ music is too risky, so we were surprised to learn that their music caused tension between them and the church. The children of a minister, the brothers have always had a connection to their faith.
But that connection was put to the test when involving romantic relationships and girls started to become an issue. The boys also faced judgment for “not being a Christian band”. The tension got so bad that their father had to resign from the church, resulting in the family losing their home!
So Uncool
Being part of the Disney Channel, there were times when the Jonas Brothers weren’t always in control of their career. Perhaps that’s why the one thing they regret getting involved with as a band was the second season of their show, "JONAS".
While the boys were told that the show would help their career, it ended up being a bad move according to Nick Jonas. He added that the show’s juvenile humor hindered their growth and made them appear so much more “uncool” than they are. We have to agree, though we did like the “Pizza Girl” sketch!
Joe’s Solo Regrets
Going solo can be hard when you’ve been part of one of the biggest boy bands in recent years. In 2011 after releasing his solo album to lackluster reviews and responses from fans, Joe Jonas was in a bad place.
According to the Jonas brother, the album’s poor performance was his first failure. He added that he found the thought that he couldn’t achieve the success he had with his brothers embarrassing. Luckily, a few years later, he found success as the lead singer of the band DNCE, helping them score multiple hits.
We Need to Talk About Kevin
When the band disbanded in 2013, Kevin concentrated on his family life. While his brothers were happy that he had found his better half, they were not keen on Kevin’s participation in the reality show "Married to Jonas" because they worried it would expose things that they didn’t want people to know about.
In case there wasn’t enough tension, Kevin started feeling like he wasn't needed. Some radio stations even told the older brother he didn’t have to join the performances! At the time, Joe said he and Nick thought that Kevin was holding them back.
Their Bachelor Party Got a Bit Too Loco
Anyone who’s familiar with the Spanish party destination, Ibiza, knows that it takes a lot for a party celebration there to get so wild that the police have to get involved.
Surprisingly, Joe Jonas’s pre-wedding celebration got so out of hand that the cops were called not just once, but three times! While the brothers stayed mum on what exactly happened, we’re sure that it involved quite a bit of drinking.
The Moment That Could Have Ended It All
It’s hard to imagine the Jonas Brothers without all three brothers. But sadly, that was almost the case. In their book, "Blood: A Memoir by the Jonas Brothers," they opened up about a chilling near-death experience.
Nick revealed that he almost lost his life when, as a child, he snuck out of his home and climbed a fence to a nearby pool. After falling in the water, he said something compelled him to swim despite not knowing how to. Luckily, he figured it out, saying that it just came naturally to him.
Kevin Was Bullied
Before the bandmates were considered cool, older member Kevin was the victim of bullying. Kevin’s classmates would make fun of his unique hobbies which included singing, gymnastics, and performing magic tricks.
In the band’s documentary, "Chasing Happiness," Kevin added that his “odd extracurricular activities" combined with his unfashionable clothes made him a target. The bullying and name-calling got so out of hand that Kevin actually turned to acting because it was hard for him to feel “connected” with anything else at his school.
Prank War
In 2019, the Jonas brothers engaged in a hilarious prank war with perpetually-handsome actor John Stamos. It all started when Stamos was pictured wearing the band’s t-shirt. Cleverly, Nick later printed the picture of John wearing their shirt on a sweatshirt.
Things got zanier when Stamos customized a pillowcase with a photo of Nick wearing the John Stamos picture sweatshirt. Soon, Nick made a blanket featuring a photo of Stamos cuddling up to his “Nick in a John Stamos shirt” pillow. Are you keeping up? As the last prank, Stamos was photographed with tattoos of the JoBro!
The Boys’ Special Christmas Connection
Not only have the Brothers released several holiday-themed songs, but it turns out that Christmas might just be their favorite holiday. In addition to partaking in the usual holiday activities like decorating a tree, the boys have a unique tradition — playing Xbox!
Joe explained that on the 23rd of December, the boys gather together for their “Christmas Eve Eve Xbox Tradition.'' Even a global crisis couldn’t stop them from celebrating their tradition. The boys simply played together online.
A Serious Collection of Ink
Though it may come as a surprise, the brothers have an impressive amount of tattoos and most of their ink is dedicated to their loved ones. Kevin got a tattoo inspired by his wife's look in the band’s “Sucker” video to go along with her name “Dani” on his ring finger.
Joe and wife Sophie Turner have each others’ initials, corresponding Buzz Lightyear quote tattoos, and portraits of their late pup Waldo. Nick and Priyanka recently got tattoos of a checkmark (because Priyanka apparently checked all of Nick’s boxes!).
Kevin Is a Children's Book Author
The Jonas Brothers are known for writing their own music, and in 2022, Kevin added a new writing credit to his name with a children's book called "There’s a Rock Concert in My Bedroom." The illustrated book talks about stage fright and tries to help children get over it by thinking about the significance of music and of family.
Kevin and Danielle stated that the book was inspired by their own daughters, Alena and Valentina, who have struggled with nerves before their own dance recitals. The couple hopes that their book will help parents navigate their child’s emotions.
From Jonas Brothers to Jonas Dads
In a fact that might make you feel old, all three members of the Jonas Brothers are now fathers(!). Yes, that’s right. No longer the scarf-wearing teens singing about crushes, the boys are all grown up and have families of their own.
Naturally, older brother Kevin was the first. He and his wife Danielle became parents to two adorable daughters, Alena and Valentina. Joe and his wife Sophie Turner followed next when they welcomed a daughter named Willa. Last, but certainly not least, Nick and his wife Priyanka Chopra welcomed a daughter named Malti.
Brothers Get Roasted
The former Disney stars are known to poke fun at themselves, but during their Netflix special, "The Jonas Brothers Family Roast," they called in the professionals to crack the jokes. Pete Davidson poked fun at the brothers’ height, while Dr. Phil McGraw (yes, that Dr. Phil!) told them they’re “not good enough for” their wives.
The worst roast, however, came from Nick’s wife Priyanka who joked about their 10-year- age gap saying her husband “showed me how to use TikTok, and I showed him what a successful acting career looks like,” Ouch!
