This photograph was taken in February of 1968 when the Beatles, together with their wives/girlfriends attended a Transcendental Meditation program at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram in Rishikesh, India. They first met Maharishi in 1967, while the famous Transcendental Meditation teacher was in England for a lecture tour. This particular trip of the famous band proved to be productive and gained a lot of media attention.
The English rock band, especially George Harrison, was instrumental in shaping Western attitudes and behaviors about Indian spirituality. They took time to promote the benefits and practice of Transcendental Meditation. It is believed and proven that this non-religious method promotes relaxation and self-development.
Model And Actress, Andie MacDowell Back In 1984
Andie MacDowell made her film debut in the 1984 adventure movie, "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes." In 1989, she received international recognition and an Independent Spirit award for Best Female Lead, and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress for her role in the 1989 movie, "Sex, Lies, and Videotape."
The beautiful MacDowell modeled for Calvin Klein and has been an ambassadress for L’Oréal. She appeared in other notable films like "Green Card" (1990), "Groundhog Day" (1993), and "Multiplicity" (1996). She is part of the main cast of the TV series "Cuckoo," a British-Irish sitcom. Andie married and divorced twice and has three children with her former husbands.
Rocking with Jimi Hendrix
There were over 30 musicians set to perform on the stage at Woodstock. Jimi Hendrix was one of them. He headlined the festival - and only performed for about 30,000 attendees. Unfortunately, since he was last, most people had already gone home due to unfavorable weather conditions, such as rain and extreme heat.
Jimi Hendrix earned the most money out of anyone who performed at Woodstock. He walked away with $18,000. The performance lasted for two amazing hours. It has been said that this performance at Woodstock went down in history for him and his band Gypsy Sun and Rainbows.
Helen Keller & Charlie Chaplin
Helen Keller was an American advocate and author; however, she was best known for her disability as she could not see or hear. In her early life, she communicated using home signs; however, she then learned how to read and eventually earned a university degree in art. In those days, Charlie Chaplin was a British filmmaker who rose to fame through his unique silent films.
This rare image shows a very young Helen Keller seated center with the amazing Charlie Chaplin. Keller taught Chaplin sign language, and although she herself couldn't see any of the movies, she still made an effort to watch them.
Salvador Dali & Raquel Welch
Raquel Welch was one of the most desired women in the 60s. In this photo, we see the famous painter Salvador Dali, who painted a portrait of Welch. Dali painted her with passion and was infatuated with her together with the rest of the world. This photo was taken when Dali kissed Welch and thanked her for allowing him to express his art through her.
Over the years, Dali painted more than 1500 paintings; however, he was never known for his painting of beautiful women's portraits. He is most recognized with Persistence of Memory and the melting watches, which date back to 1931.
Friends with the King
In 1957, Sammy Davis Jr. met the King. The two men met on the set of Elvis’s film “Loving You.” Apart from being entertainers, the two had a great deal in common. They both loved the party lifestyle and were rather rebellious. Even though Davis had had his left eye removed it didn’t stop him from driving a motorcycle. The King also had a motorcycle.
Davis was a regular at Elvis’s parties at his Wilshire penthouse suite. They even collaborated together. For example, in 1957, the King and Davis starred in Stanley Kramer’s film, “The Defiant Ones.” They remained bosom buddies for 20 years.
Joe Louis Signs
Joe Louis became a boxing sensation when he knocked out James J. Braddock on June 22, 1937. When other fighters managed an average reign of 3 years, Louis was the world heavyweight champion for a whopping 12 years. His celebrity status skyrocketed at this time. Louis signed a contract with the Las Vegas Moulin Rouge Hotel in 1954 where he would often appear for fans and do "tourist greetings."
Not many people know that he was among the original investors of the Moulin Rouge Hotel - the first non-segregated hotel and casino in Las Vegas. Louis wasn’t just a legendary boxer but also the first African American to become a national hero. He united people across color divides and backgrounds. His image was highly publicized and eventually became quite strictly managed.
Jayne Mansfield With Her Dogs
Actor and singer Jayne Mansfield was always at home in Las Vegas. She was as vibrant and outrageous as the city, taking to it like a ship to the sea. While there are pictures galore of Manfield as a glamorous starlet, few capture just how effortlessly she belonged in Vegas like this 1959 picture.
She’s out and about in Sin City - not making media appearances but buying ice cream with her two dogs. Mansfield was an up-and-coming star. But a dearth of good roles kept her away from making Hollywood’s A-list. She also tragically died young, never having realized her full potential.
Arlene Dahl and Fernando Lamas
It’s not an overstatement to say that Arlene Dahl was one of the most immaculate Hollywood stars of the 1950s. She never had a single strand of hair out of place and was always fashionably dressed. Her ex-husband, Argentinian star, Fernando Lamas would share after their divorce that it was like being married to Elizabeth Arden.
He had never seen her without makeup throughout their marriage. Dahl’s obsession with appearances limited the nature and number of roles Hollywood could offer her. But it served her well elsewhere. The fixation on beauty helped establish her wildly successful cosmetics and lingerie after the actor retired from movies.
A Little Movie About a Boxer
While getting bit roles and a few small starring moments, Stallone was always working on his own writing, including a script about a washed-out boxer given a big chance on a national stage. Maybe that story sounds a little familiar to you. Even after the little success he’d found, he was almost flat broke. He moved to California, and was having such a hard time that he had to sell his dog – he could hardly feed himself, much less his dog.
One night, however, he went out to see a boxing match between Muhammad Ali (who is known as “The Greatest”) and Chuck Wepner on March 24, 1975. Chuck was known as “The Bayonne Bleeder.” Everybody thought they knew how the fight was going to go, but it ended up shocking everyone.
It All Seems So Realistic
If you’ve ever happened to watch “Invasion USA,” you might have seen a whole bunch of real suburban houses getting blown up during the movie. Like, a lot of them. This is because director Joseph Zito found the perfect way to get it done. Instead of using models and little firecrackers, he found a neighborhood near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport that was going to be destroyed in order to extend a runway.
Zito politely asked if he might blow some of them up for the movie, and the airport (or whoever was in charge) said yes. Score. We don’t think there has ever been another movie that has had so many simple family homes blow up in such a way, and we don’t know if we’re ever going to see one again.
Cast By Mistake
One of the best pieces of trivia about “Alan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold” is how Sharon Stone was cast in the movie. Menahem Golan saw “Romancing the Stone” and liked it, and when he found out Cannon was producing a movie that shamelessly ripped it off, he said to get the actress from the movie. To quote, he insisted that “that Stone woman” be cast as the female lead.
But nobody knew that he was actually talking about the film “Romancing the Stone,” they thought he was talking about a woman named Stone – Sharon Stone, who was a big actress at the time. She was cast opposite Richard Chamberlain for "Lost City," even though Golan was asking to cast Kathleen Turner, not Sharon Stone.
I Got You, Babe
Since they were already divorced when the photo was taken in 1979, their appearance at Studio 54 together has gone down in history as one of the most memorable ones! Of course, the iconic rock duo Sonny and Cher would make their way to Studio 54.
Though the couple's career as a duo ended in 1975 after their split, they remained on good terms and even returned to their television show in 1976. Despite their divorce, their appearance at Studio 54 was a reminder of the magic they created as a duo. The photo of them together that night remains a beloved image of a time when disco was king, and anything was possible.
Bianca Jagger and Liza Minnelli Teamed Up to Provide Entertainment
In case you haven’t figured this out yet, Studio 54 was no ordinary club. While requests from the DJ may be frowned upon today, Studio 54 turned their illustrious patrons into the entertainment plan. On more than one occasion, the biggest names in music stepped up to provide entertainment at Studio 54. Liza Minnelli and Bianca Jagger once performed a duet while Andy Warhol documented the experience in photos.
What most people might wait a lifetime to experience was simply another normal evening at the ‘70s disco. These unforgettable moments were just part of a typical evening at Studio 54, where guests never knew what kind of excitement they might encounter.
Gwyneth Paltrow Kissing Chris Martin
Here, we can see actress Gwyneth Paltrow sharing a kiss with the frontman of Coldplay - Chris Martin. They were seen while riding a first-class train on the "Gatwick Express." They were on their way to the airport from London Victoria. We're not entirely sure where they were flying to though.
But it seems that it wasn't long before they started a family together, with Paltrow giving birth to their daughter Apple not too long after. Of course, the two were inseparable, for a while at least. But it's been a while now since Paltrow and Martin were one of the biggest power couples in all of Hollywood.
Young Anna Paquin
It's amazing to think that Anna Paquin has been in the movie industry since she was just a little girl. We often associate the talented actress with her roles in the "X-Men" film franchise and her work on the series "True Blood." But all the way back in 1994, a young Paquin was getting awarded an Academy Award for her performance in the movie "Piano."
Paquin has had plenty of other standout roles, featuring in classic movies such as Spike Lee's "25th Hour" and "The Irishman," directed by Martin Scorsese. Amazingly, she's still so young and has plenty of time to achieve so much more.
A Special Bond
Not all celebrities get support from their parents during the early stages of their career. But this definitely could not be said about Brooke Shields. The young lady who would go on to become a successful model and actress in equal measures can be seen here sitting with her proud mother Teri Shields.
She also happened to be her manager at the time. Shields is still smashing it until the present day, and recently had a recurring role on the show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." Teri Shields was also a successful model and actress, who would have been very proud of the career Brooke made for herself.
Woody Woody Woody
There has been a performer quite like Woody Allen. And yet, the actor/filmmaker has inspired an entire generation of comedians with his witty observational humor. Back in the '70s, Allen hit the jackpot when his movie "Annie Hall" won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.
The fourth went to his co-star Diane Keaton, who won Best Actor. In this photo, we can see the dynamic duo hanging out behind the scenes on the set of "The Woody Allen Special," which ran long before "Annie Hall" ever came out. During the gap between those two productions, Keaton would star alongside Al Pacino in "The Godfather" movies.
Jay-Z and Beyonce - the Modern Bonnie & Clyde
In the world of pop music, there is no denying that Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles have been the ultimate power couple over the last couple of decades. The two performers had already established themselves as leading figures in their respective genres, with Jay being regarded as one of the best rappers of the turn of the century and Queen Bey leading the girl group Destiny's Child.
But their fame reached a whole new level when they fell in love. Here, we can see the couple strolling along Miami Beach. Sure, they have had some bumps along the way, but they're still together until this very day.
It's Just Justin and Jessica
Love was in the air when Justin Timberlake and actress Jessica Biel were seen together driving from their date at Cut restaurant in Beverly Hills. Paparazzi loved every minute of it, but Jessica was quick to avoid the snapshots and hid her face with her handbag.
But as you can see, the couple found the situation very funny and couldn't help but laugh. Around that time, Biel had recently moved into the former NSync man's mansion in the Hollywood Hills. They're still together until this very day, albeit after having some personal issues of their own. And their both still busy in their respective fields too.
Billy and Gizmo - The Original Bromance
There is no denying that "Gremlins" was one of the quintessential '80s movies. A perfect combination of horror, family drama, comedy, and Christmas fantasy, this classic flick sees young man Billy Peltzer discover a furry little creature called a Mogwai. He nicknames him Gizmo.
Although he is given some rules on how to take care of the little creature, he ultimately fails to follow them, creating a bunch of terrifying gremlins along the way. Here, we can see Billy (played by Zach Galligan), hanging out with his adorable little buddy. We're surprised this movie didn't spawn (no pun intended) 50 more sequels. Just the one!
