What you are about to see is a collection of people who decided to give their old photos a modern remake and share it online for the whole internet to know. Adults and families recreating their childhood photos is one of our favorite online trends! We have a feeling you’re going to enjoy these pictures just as much as we did.
All for Onesie
What we love most about this childhood recreation photo is that the siblings today are not focusing too much on the fine details. In fact, they have modernized the attire a little and hit home the point that these days, 20-30-year-olds are still babies at heart. Look no further than the cherry onesies.
Onesies. We all wear them. They’re basically just baby pajamas for adults. We also appreciate that the girl in front is sucking her thumb. The brother next to her is still crying. The three at the back look pretty oblivious to what’s happening in front of them. Some things never change.
Spaghetti Oh-No
It doesn’t take too long for us to realize that getting spaghetti all over your face, clothes, and the table is not a generational issue. It’s not just babies who struggle with this. Sure, this lady, as her younger self, was probably a much messier individual at an involuntary level.
But that didn’t stop her from enjoying her food and eating with a big smile on her face. And fast forward 25 years later, her vision has diminished a little, hence the glasses. But all in all, she still doesn’t care about the tomato sauce splattering all over the place.
Halloween, Many Years (And Much Candy) After
Some of the best pictures to view years after they were taken are Halloween pictures like this one. In addition to reliving what was popular at the time, we can see how funny, and in some cases sad, our Halloween costumes were.
The three boys look cute in their Halloween costumes on the left, and although we give them credit for their costumes in the recreation on the right, they weren’t quite as cute in that photo. Halloween is a great way of knowing what was popular at the time. What movies, TV shows, musicians, and video games everyone knew then.
A Day at the Park
Spring weekends and holidays are the best time to be outdoors with friends and family. Breathing in some fresh air, enjoying the trees, and appreciating mother nature can be quite rejuvenating. As kids, we don't fully appreciate the time we have to do that.
It's nice to know that this group of friends kept their tradition of exploring the parks even when they're all grown up and have more obligations. While the choice of clothing could have been a little closer to the original photo, we do have to commend the brother on the far left for his commitment to that unforgiving pose.
Too Close for Comfort
You can tell that we are going back to the 80s for this throwback. Truth be told, this pair of siblings look like they could be dating. The chemistry is off the charts! Maybe that’s why their mother doesn’t look so impressed by the situation.
We hope this relationship didn’t blossom into some Lannister arrangement from “Game of Thrones.” If you saw the show, you get the unbearable reference. On the other hand, we’re sure it’s just an innocent peck on the cheek and nothing more, and that it’s always been this way between them. At least, we hope so.
A 30-Year Friendship
As we age, keeping in touch with friends becomes a constant struggle. With work, family, and every other bump in the road that comes our way, hanging out with friends seems to fall in line with blue moons and the Hale-Bopp comet passing close to Earth. That’s why this recreated childhood photo is so special.
The original photo of these two youngsters shows them in elementary school. The original is already so moving on its own and shows how close the two’s personalities are. Fast forward to the present day and as you can see, not much has changed. Hopefully, in another 30 years, they can make a new recreation, if such a trend is a thing in 30 years.
‘Tis the Season
Ah, Christmas. What a magical time of the year. The tree is on display; decorations are everywhere. Presents are waiting to be placed at the bottom. And many, many kids around the world are recreating the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.
And if you are a family who dives into this age-long tradition, you hope that at least one of the children is female, so they can play the Virgin Mary. This family had that privilege and was able to reimagine the Nativity many years later. In fact, we heard they do this every single year! ‘Tis the season, after all!
Spot On
Children's birthday parties used to have a very specific itinerary: you invite your friends over, you sing, play games, have some cake, and when everyone's gone you get to open the presents. It was all innocent yet fulfilling. This brother and sister duo somehow managed to recreate that magic many years after this birthday party photo was taken.
Not only did the two find headpieces and clothes to match the original picture, they even made sure the details in the background are the same. They even went as far as putting the leaf in the top right corner. Such commitment!
80s Kids Forever!
Listen to this: these two siblings did a “then-and-now” to celebrate Mother’s Day. And you won’t believe the lengths they went to in order to bring that 1986 original photo back to life. They even returned to their old, childhood house in New Orleans to make it happen.
Except for the fact that the sister has since dyed her hair blue, it’s pretty uncanny! The brother’s still digging for gold, they’re still holding their lunch boxes, and they are both matching tank tops and shorts – we assume for school. Oh, and the tables have turned in terms of the height difference.
Going Bald Was Never a Concern
Pictures like this prove that brothers and sisters are essentially attached at the hip for their whole lives. Take these brothers for instance, who are all a few years apart and clearly, still very close with each other all these years later as adults.
Of course, they go off and live their lives and have families of their own now (not to mention groom their spectacular facial hair), but at the end of the day, brotherhood is a bond that cannot be broken. Surely they didn’t think the little one would have the biggest beard, in the end, did they?
Once a Chocolate Face, Always a Chocolate Face
Younger kids aren’t really noted as being graceful or hygienic, are they? It is perfectly natural for kids to be messy eaters when it comes time to eat, resulting in a photo or two, perhaps more, and them happily stuffing themselves with more food on their faces than in their hands.
This pair of brothers had a candid photo of them taken outside of a sporting event when they were young. One brother notices the photo about to be taken and smiles the best he can. The other couldn't care less, as he devours his ice cream cone, making this recreation sweet in more ways than one. Some adults are messy eaters still. It is a hard habit to shake.
Growing Up
Here is the true meaning of gains. Not just for the two beefcakes on the sides (they could probably crush walnuts with those biceps), but also for that former baby in the middle. Sure, he was a baby in the before photo. Maybe people should do this for before and after workout photos to trick us all.
Way more effective than the fortnight one you always see on Instagram and Facebook. This one looks like Mom has got up there in age and would not have been able to pick up the boy in the middle if her life depended on it. Cropping his legs out was a great idea because it makes Mom look so strong.
T-Rex Arms Are Still Hilarious, Even 20 Years Later
Children are silly and playful all of the time, so it isn’t too unrealistic for parents to have photos like the one on the left. No matter how silly these photos are, they perfectly preserve memories for parents, siblings, and the subjects for years to come. That’s why recreating these photos is hilarious one hundred and fifty percent of the time.
We’re glad to see the brother and sister have hung onto their playful ways with each other and are still close. The only things that have changed are the T-shirts. But those T-Rex arms certainly haven’t grown that much.
Classic Redheads
Flaming red hair, freckles, and sweet smiles? These two must be long-lost members of the Weasley family from the Harry Potter books. If time machines were real, we would cast the young versions as Ron and Ginny, and the older versions as Molly and Arthur.
While we're at it, we could also cast the sister as the dreadful Darla from "Finding Nemo." The hardest part of recreating this picture must have been the wardrobe — a yellow buttoned-down shirt and a gray cardigan is one thing, but where on earth would you find a white/brown striped turtleneck after all these years?
Not So Light Anymore, Is He?
For anyone with siblings, the chances are usually good that there is a photo around of you holding your younger brother or sister or an older sibling holding you, all with big grins on your faces. This pair was no different. Take a gander at how proud the big brother looks to have his new brother in the family now.
This was clearly a photo both parents have loved and cherished since it was taken. Because of this, it is clear why the boys decided they would recreate the photo. Well, they get an A for effort. As you can probably assume, holding your brother is a lot easier when he is only 22 inches long. And probably a lot lighter, too?
Rebel Rebel
Let’s face it: no one transforms into a rock star. Either you’re born one, or you’ll never be one! Take this young lady, for example. From as early as 10, she was chugging away her daddy’s bottles of Jack Daniel's. Of course, we love the classic bourbon as much as the next man, but we would have stripped that bottle away from her immediately!
And old habits die hard, apparently. We like to think that she just sips away at it a little every once in a while. Completely harmless, right? We really hope she doesn’t have some sort of problem. Also, is the bird really necessary after all these years?
Look Straight Forward!
Trying to take a picture of multiple people is always hard. Usually, one of the people photographed will not like the way they looked in the picture, or simply will not look in the same direction as the others. In this family's case, the latter seems like more of an issue as half of them aren't even looking at the camera.
They were, however, good sports about it and decided to recreate it years later. They even made a great effort to match the clothes from the original picture, all the way down to the stripe-wearing mom and the He-Man t-shirt!
The Family That Paints Together Stays Together
If this family has ever considered releasing a musical album, this picture should definitely be considered as the cover image. The Osmonds wouldn't stand a chance. Whoever came up with the concept for this photoshoot obviously had a whole vision planned.
And even though the styling isn't exactly '00 kind of modern, it can still put a smile on our faces. We aren't even concerned about the kids under the ladder. If anything, these pictures prove this superstition to be nothing more than a superstition. It looks like those kids hold on to their sweet and mischievous spirits well into adulthood. Their parents must be very proud.
Happy in the Water
Remember when we were little we had some toys in the bathtub? When exactly do we grow out of it? Or better yet, why do we even stop with it in the first place? What's wrong with having some toys around to witness you singing in the shower?
You know what? We're gonna go take a little trip to the toy store and restock the bath. You can absolutely do the same. It looks like these two never stopped playing, and the only thing that changed is their choice of shower toys. Now they prefer some drinks and each other's company.
Bathtub Family Fun
How many bathtub photos with siblings are there in the entire world? Maybe trillions, but definitely billions, right? Parents love to multi-task by putting all their kids in the tub at once when they’re small so they all get clean and save time too.
To be fair, it does kind of make sense in a weird parental way. The reason is this: parents are busy! So any time-saving methods are welcome. As you can see these kids don’t exactly love the fact their mom or dad put them all in there together, but years later, they are probably laughing at it with the help of this grand recreation. Ah, there it is… the sibling bath.
Bath Time Is Still a Riot
When you are a child, life seems filled with possibilities. Then you grow up and realize that it actually kind of sucks sometimes. You can’t be fed while sitting in a grownup chair, you can’t poop in your pants while you keep talking to your friends and you sure as hell can’t take baths in the smallest of containers anymore. These dudes had enough of that noise.
They thought it was high time to bring back the days when you could take a bath in a bucket and keep your dignity. They had to try it at least once to bring back that feeling of magic. The possibilities really don’t stop when you hang onto your imagination.
Still Not Sure About This Whole Situation
Took a look at this kid’s face and you can clearly see that he does not quite know what to do with his little brother yet. Maybe he was not sure if he was okay with being a big brother yet. Or perhaps he knew his days of sleeping in and having Mom and Dad all to himself were over.
Either way, it looks like all of that is under the bridge, based on the hilarious recreation they did to the right, but he does nail that questioning face. Maybe someone passed the gas and he suspects his little brother.
Continuity Issues
We’re not going to lie: this childhood recreation photo seriously vexes us! Why? Well, it has nothing to do with the aesthetics of the actual photos. Let’s just get that out of the way first. Seeing these two licking away on their utensils is fine and dandy. And recreating it is perfectly fine too!
But here’s the context, people. The original photo was taken at one of the siblings’ Blue’s Clues birthday party 20 years ago. While the new photo was just taken at a random Thanksgiving dinner. Why couldn’t they reenact it at the 20-year anniversary birthday bash? See? We’re justified to be vexed!
A Mother's Favorite
When dealing with original photos from childhood, in some cases, it is nearly impossible to fathom how they could get any funnier. These boys proved that it is very possible. The original picture is really adorable and really silly as well if you take a nice long gander at it. These cute boys look really sweet and goofy at the same time, which makes it impossible not to smile.
Clearly, this picture is a family favorite, so when they wanted to do a recreation 30 years later, the choice was clear. With the expressions on their faces and their clothes, we think they did a great job. Thirty years can do wonders for a sense of humor.
The Circle of Life
We really love this picture and not for just one reason. Finishing school can be pretty tough. But for those of us who have kids, it can be even more difficult. The photo on the left shows the father on graduation day holding his little girl while she sweetly dons his graduation cap.
As touching as that is, it is about to get much better, because the recreation is of his daughter’s graduation and now she’s holding him! It ticks so many boxes when it comes to making a great recreation photo! It is silly, light-hearted, and shows off both of their sense of humor, which being father and daughter, might be exactly the same.
Man of the Flower
First and foremost – the guy absolutely nailed the pose. But the fact that he can lean onto the flower with just one hand shows how strong that thing is! He looks like he just came back from some kind of run. Our theory is that he started the run in 1986 and finished in 2019. It’s the only sensible explanation for these two photos.
After all, Forrest Gump ran all the way across America; why can’t this be true too? Also, we have it on record that the giant sunflower in the more recent photo is the great-great-great grandson of the giant sunflower in the original! Talk about continuity!
A Little Heavier
They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, and that definitely explains this photo! The first one, taken back in February 1985, shows a proud, albeit tired new dad holding his newborn baby while he has fallen asleep. It’s a tender moment.
Fast forward 34 years later to February 2019, and that baby has grown into basically a clone of his dad! They both have impressive beards. They’ve both covered their sleeves in tattoos. And yet, they still sleep on each other after all these years. Though it appears that the father is starting to feel the pain of his son’s weight.
Santa Still Isn't Thrilled
No matter your age, you can always ask Santa Clause for something. Whether it is a toy car, a real car, candy, clothes, or money. You are never too old to hit up old Saint Nick, and if you haven’t done it in a while, he probably owes you.
It is no secret that Santa is a real person in those shopping mall pictures you always used to take during holiday time. But here it looks like Santa is fake. How else would the big man be able to hold two other big men on his knees? Well, he does fly around the world in one night with flying reindeer and sliding down chimneys with sacks of presents, so maybe he has super strength, too?
Mom Wanted a Simple Christmas Picture
Moms and dads are notoriously hard to shop for when the holidays come around. Most parents say they don’t want anything at all. When the mom of these brothers said she only wanted a nice photo of all three of them, they grabbed the chance to do a little recreation. Rather than recreate any old photo, they went straight for the heartstrings and recreated their mom’s favorite photo of them from childhood. And wow, did they absolutely smash it.
They went the full nine by having the recreation done in an actual studio and managed to wear similar outfits. The best part though is those faces that perfectly match the ones from 20-plus years before. What a perfect gift from three great sons.
Same Girl, Different Bottle
This family makes sure to always be on-trend. You can tell by the floral curtains and mustache that were all the rage in the '80s. The same thing goes for the love in the parents' eyes, that's one thing that never goes out of style. You just know that the baby girl was the most fashionable girl in daycare.
As it turns out, she grew up with a great sense of humor as well. We wouldn't be surprised if she got that from her parents too. This photo recreation, almost 30 years later must have been the perfect Christmas activity, and the wine bottle was the icing on the cake.
A Nice Family Portrait
Although a lot of these pictures are of children as adults, we do love seeing the entire family getting involved in recreating these awesome photos. The picture on the left is of a proud dad with his three sons, all wearing their best clothes it appears. This is clearly a photo that should be recreated. Give them credit for getting all of the details in the photo correct in the picture on the right.
All the details are there, from the boys' clothes, with the son on the right in particular, to the youngest brother trying to get his dad to hold him. Nearly an exact match! Probably had the mom help get all of the exact details for the clothes correct because, let’s face it, she probably dressed them in the original too.
The Roof of It All
OK, so this recreation might not be so long after the original, like other examples on this list. But still, it counts, and we’re all in for it. Fathers are here to show their kids how to do things. So are mothers. But for the sake of this photo, roll with us here.
This dad started training his boys early when he showed them how to… well, we actually don’t know what he’s trying to show them here. It’s something important. We just appreciate the commitment from everyone involved. Most notably the younger brother, who was desperate to get in on the action.
Too Close
If we’re going to take a guess, we assume that maybe these three aren’t even sisters. Maybe they’re just good school friends who stayed close throughout the years. And that makes sense because, in both photos, they are as close as you can possibly be.
They are literally glued to each other’s faces. Any closer, and we would guess that they are conjoined triplets! Well, they’re not; they just love having a good time together. In fact, they have been enjoying having a good time together for a long, long time. Having one friend is hard to come by, never mind two!
Rub-a-Dub-Dub
It goes without saying – but for many families around the world, it is perfectly normal for a couple of siblings to share a bathtub together when they are very, very young. However, when you have grown into young adults, and all of the stuff that comes with puberty and whatnot, sharing a tub with your own flesh and blood is just kind of strange.
Nevertheless, this trio of brothers was very much committed to the bit of recreating this old childhood photo. It seems, though, that the brother holding the containers has lost his sense of humor over the years. Why so sad, bro?
Family Photos That Survived History
Although this recreation looks pretty similar to the original, it is clear to see the location of the picture has changed quite a bit. Now that the Berlin Wall is no longer splitting East from West in Germany, it was a little difficult to be completely accurate in recreating this photo. Although the places from our childhood usually change for the worst, every now and then, they change for the better.
Everything else about this photo was recreated perfectly. From the jeans, jacket, and sneakers down to the hairstyle and pose. He and his family will definitely keep this for all days to come. These recreations don’t always bring back the best memories, but at least in the new-fangled version, there is the appearance of brighter days.
Some Things Never Change
It is a universally known truth that the firstborn child of a family is commonly more responsible than his/her younger counterpart. It's usually more important for them to do well in school, they care a lot more about pleasing their parents, and they are often charged with taking care of their little siblings as they grow older.
Something tells us this is the exact dynamic between these two brothers. The older brother's buttoned-down striped shirt and the expression of general confusion on the younger brother's face say it all. Good thing they have each other to maintain a nice balance.
Just a Little Rinse
There is arguably no greater joy than being able to take your baby’s soft, bald head and give it a gentle rinse in the sink. This father had that pleasure all those years ago, and as you can see, the baby had complete faith in his daddy that he was going to get a good clean.
Fast forward about 30 years later, and the baby is now a fully-grown man. And yet, he is still completely comfortable getting a head scrub from his old man. Hmmm, maybe “completely comfortable” is a bit of a stretch. As a matter of fact, the son looks kind of startled by the whole thing.
Tickle Me Pink
It’s safe to say that in most cultures, the color pink is associated with the female gender. Of course, this trend is gradually changing as identity becomes a much more widely accepted, fluid thing. But seriously, who cares if a little boy wears something pink or rides a pink piñata?
This kid certainly didn’t 20 years ago. We imagine this was at some kind of birthday party. And now, that very same boy is all grown up and is clearly too big for a pinata, no matter what color it may be. He still looks happy, though, and excited to give it a ride!
Boys in the Mud
This photo is so good. Mostly because it seems completely possible that the recreation was done spontaneously in a different mud-featuring event. Truly, we hope these four mud-soaked boys were close throughout their boyhood and into manhood. Muddy manhood, sure, but what kind of manhood isn't muddy? It's all part of growing up.
Youth is full of these sweet moments and memories. Surely Mom and Dad loved to get these two photos of their boys then and now as a Christmas present. And we’re sure they were glad they didn’t have four mud-covered boys they had to clean too, now that they are all grown up.
Pest Control
There is nothing quite like the curiosity of a child. Little ones will leave no stone unturned and will do whatever it takes to inspect every kind of new discovery. It’s funny how children can fear insects even less than adults. Ah, ignorance is bliss.
Take this kid, for example, who stumbled across a cricket back in the 80s, and gave it a check over as it crawled on his hand. Travel to the future, 2020 specifically, and that same boy is playing around with crickets in what looks like the Grand Canyon! We doubt it’s the same cricket, but hey, stranger things have happened!
The Time for Overalls Has Passed
Overalls are adorable on just about any little kid or a farmer, however, they should not see the light of day if you don’t fit one of those two categories. Kidding! Wear them if you got 'em. Actually, we bet some rappers from the 90s and maybe hippies can rock overalls too.
Seriously though, these two guys should have checked with the fashion police before recreating this look for their photo. Anyhow, this might be one of the funniest recreated childhood photos on this list. The original was already pretty funny, but stack on 20 years and facial hair and you'll get something pretty amazing.
Swing When You’re Winning
Ah, the pleasures of a communal swing. Because let’s face it, who wants to swing along by themselves? Well, a lot of children, actually. But this group of siblings absolutely loved hanging out together on their indoor family swing back in the day.
And it seems that they still can’t get enough of it now that they are adults. Amazingly, the shelves behind them haven’t changed either! We love that they also stuck to the exact same facial expressions. It’s a real talent getting this kind of reconstruction so right. We have to take our hat off to these wonderful siblings.
Smell Me, Everyone!
The little boy in the back seat knew he wasn’t supposed to have his feet up in the back seat, but did so anyway and wasn’t wearing shoes! That could not have smelled great. They had to document this clear disregard for his siblings' noses and the rules, so that one day they could show him what a cheeky monkey he was.
This was a prime photo for recreation and it shows. Look at the rebellious look he has again, and this time his brother and sister are even braver because his feet are big, hairy, and extra smelly. At least it looks like he clipped his toenails. That would be where most people draw the line.
Five Kids, Five Looks
Looking at the original, you can tell that each of those siblings has a special place in the family. You can also see that they have a very tightly-knit kind of relationship and that they have each other's back no matter what. Those qualities can easily be seen in the recreation of the photo years later.
The sister on the right quite literally has her baby brother's back. Some details in the recreation definitely call for an honorable mention, like the brothers on the left wearing the same shirt, and the sister in the middle with her toes showing at the bottom. Great job!
Going on a Road Trip
No matter how old your kids are, there is nothing like a long car ride to help them fall asleep. Something tells us those children were no strangers to road trips and late-night travels to exciting places and camping sites.
This must be why they chose to recreate this picture so many years later. And so well, if we might add! The choice of clothing could not have been any closer! Sure, some things are different, like facial hair or the fact that the little sister no longer fits in the little booster seat, but the sentiment is definitely there.
A True Wild Child
There are some childhood photos that shouldn’t be recreated. Exhibit A is here, but luckily it is hilarious. The original picture is one of the most legendary childhood photos ever taken. Between the insane look on his face, and you know, pulling the Fruit of the Loom tighty whities all the way up there is just pure comic genius.
We salute this guy for having the guts to even recreate a picture that many would be way too embarrassed to have even taken in the first place. You can take the child out of the wild, but you can’t take the wild out of the child. And you probably can’t take that big a wedgie out without notifying a doctor.
Dogs Aren’t Just for Christmas
There’s nothing like sitting around by the Christmas tree and taking some quality photos together. This group of siblings is a prime example of that, and they even managed to get their pets in on the action too. But when you’re doing a recreation photo, sadly, there is a good chance that the pets aren’t the same ones that were in the original.
We believe that’s the case here. Thankfully though, the new pets managed to give a pretty strong performance, honoring their predecessors in the new photo. It seems though that one brother was more accurate with his attire than the other. We can’t deal with these inconsistencies.
Jealous, Much?
There’s something about sibling dynamics that are consistent in virtually all families. There’s the firstborn who makes the most mistakes. There’s the youngest who gets spoiled the most. There’s the only child. All of these stereotypes are there for a reason.
This photo perfectly shows the old brother who’s suddenly jealous that his newborn little brother is getting all the attention. And it seems like this dynamic didn’t change for a long time. The younger brother is still getting all the love, and the older one just has to sit there and sulk. He got the expression down to a tee!
Hulk Made This Guy's Day, Both Times!
Hulk Hogan and WWF fans will love this recreated photo. This super fan was lucky enough not only to meet the wrestling icon once but twice. In the sweet photo on the left, the fan looks like he wasn’t even a teenager when he was first trapped in Hulk’s trademark headlock.
Clearly, the fan did not have enough, because he met Hulk again and recreated the photo. Maybe every decade he and Hulk can reconnect to recreate the original photo. These photos definitely make for pure entertainment! And then he can snap into a Slimjim with Randy “The Machoman” Savage.
Smile for the Camera... or Don't
A parent's and a child's ideas of picture day may not always go hand in hand. Not all kids react well to a camera or to the unfamiliar environment of a photo studio with a stranger who insists on making them smile. Sometimes they're just not having it. Good thing they can laugh about it when they are older.
It is quite possible that the studio where these siblings took their first picture still exists. Where else would they find a place that has the exact same backdrop? Also, props on bringing a teddy bear and on styling the baby brother's hair and sailor suit.
We're Going to Need a Bigger Bowl
Just like every house has a good ol’ laundry basket, so does it have a nice big mixing bowl. And like the laundry basket, small spaces in the kitchen are great for taking snaps of young kids. Nothing says I love you, son, or daughter, like putting them in the dishwasher to take a few photos!
It may sound nuts, but parents have to take advantage of their kids’ small size while they can and you definitely can’t argue with the results. Time is of the essence and the opportunities won’t last forever. Look at this recreated childhood picture and long gone are the days when he could fit into that mixing bowl, and while he may not be as small and cute as he was in the original, the new photo is absolutely awesome.
We Scream
Seriously, do you know a child in the world who doesn’t like ice cream? Because we don’t! Children literally scream for ice cream. That’s why it’s called ice cream in the first place. Didn’t you know? These siblings got the memo all those years ago. They loved themselves some bubblegum-flavored gelato back in the day.
Don't you just love painting your tongue sky-blue with some creamy, refreshing goodness? And who says that has to stop at childhood? These siblings continued this tradition well into their 30s. And we think it’s safe to say that they’re not the only siblings to have done this.
Memories in the Sand
As tradition dictates when at the beach, you must bury your friends or siblings in the sand. It is the rules, and these kids followed them. When they were children, these kids went on a trip to the beach and buried each other up to their chins in the sand. Perhaps it was done by mom and dad who probably did it to keep them in the same place for once.
None of the kids look too excited to be where they are, though. Maybe the idea of getting buried in the sand is better than actually being buried in the sand. Either way, it certainly made for a great original photo and an equally good recreation.
Wink Wink
Little babies make the weirdest faces. They have all those new muscles to figure out, which is how we get a picture like the one on the left here. This sweet little two-month-old baby is an emoji in human form. This picture looks like it would fit well in a scrapbook along with a picture of the baby's first step and the first time he got his hair cut.
We do, however, doubt that there is a scrapbook big enough to include the rest of his pictures until he turned forty. The unique combination of his baby-self facial expression and his older adult facial hair makes for a hilarious side-by-side comparison.
You Still Don't Fit, Buddy
It seems like parents are always making their kids do silly and awkward things in front of the camera. These parents are no exception. They forced their three sons to squeeze into a rocking chair. Look closely and you’ll see the expressions go from great, to meh, to, okay that will do it.
With a priceless photo like that, it is only natural that the brothers recreate it several years later for their folks. We’re very happy with the recreated facial expressions, which are near spot-on. Bonus for the youngest dude for managing to recreate those awesome sweatpants he wore in the original. He nearly had us thinking it was the same pair!
Vacation Mode
When people go on a family vacation they are always a little different. They can let loose, blow off some steam, and hang around in swimwear as there's always a pool nearby. Or a lake. Or a beach. This family definitely ticks every box on the family vacation checklist.
Looks like it was a wonderful experience that everyone enjoyed. They enjoyed it so much they had to recreate at least that one special picture years later. The father's hair was already gray and the little brother was so much taller than his sisters, but the memory is all that matters.
Making a Mess
What a mess. Notice the cabinet on the left of the child is locked closed. That must be there for a reason. This baby is good at making messes, it is clear. So good in fact, that the parents had to take a picture to show the world how much of a little punk she was.
Now all grown up, she wanted to recreate the magical photo that made the rest of her family lock their cabinets when she came around. Making a mess is ill-advised when you are older because you are the one who has to pick it up. But if you are remaking a wonderful photo just like this, making a mess for something this epic is definitely a worthy cause.
Enjoying the Little Things
With smartphones and social media, it's easy to forget how simple life used to be when we were little. When we were able to have fun and play games with things as simple as a piece of string. Take these two brothers for example — a simple cardboard box and some sunshine were all it took to make one of their best childhood memories.
Cut to a few decades and a few tattoos later, and these two are still inseparable. Great Photoshop skills, guys, for a minute we thought the background was really there! Hopefully, they still remember to enjoy trivial things and have fun in the sun.
Never Too Old
Being the youngest sibling has its perks. You can lay on your mother and grandmother’s lap until the cows come home, and they love it too. Then you have to grow up and if you try to do it again, people will think you are a momma’s boy. No one wants to be called a momma's boy even if it is true.
So it appears the best way to be able to nap on your mom’s lap again is to recreate all of the photos with you on her lap when you were little. Of course, you might want to take it easy on your poor old mom.
Pinching Since the 1970s
Siblings have been known to fight once in a while, or all the time. It always seems to be about the dumbest things. This picture exemplifies this perfectly. The kid on the far left gives the baby in mom’s lap a great reason to want to fight. He pinched the baby's arm with a straight face. Getting pinched is not up on the list of what many people like to have done to them. So that screaming is well warranted.
Maybe the mom should have taken a little more notice to prevent a full-scale war. It looks like she had her hands full anyway. The daughter in the back is just chilling minding her own business. Keeping it chill is the best way to live with siblings. You avoid trouble and if it ever comes your way, your parents will know it is not your fault.
The Family Trip to the Capitol
The ubiquitous family vacation photos that no one wants to break away from having fun for, but mom says so you have to be in it. Truly both of these photos are impressive in their own right. Getting these three sons to stand still for ten seconds in order to snap the photo is impressive on its own.
It is even more astounding when you consider that no one has their finger up their nose, closing their eyes, crying, or throwing up. That is a win in any parent’s book! Therefore this is clearly mom’s favorite picture, not only because of her three adorable sons but also because it defied all laws of childhood and was a must for recreation. It truly is one of the best pictures on this list.
Keeping It Real
Oh wow. What a gem of a picture. The poses, the faces, the gentle confusion of the viewer — it's priceless. These three brothers have it all: a good sense of humor, a timeless sense of fashion, and each other, of course. We get the feeling they didn't need much persuasion to recreate their childhood photo.
The house obviously went through some renovations as the banister is different, the wall has been painted pink, and there are a lot more pictures on the wall. The things that haven't changed, however, are the brothers' playfulness and their undying affection for funny slippers.
The Green Machine
As you can see, these brothers have evolved in different ways as the years progressed. The boys in red seemed to have changed the least. While the green brother grew his hair really long, grew a fairly impressive beard, and got some pretty rock-star tattoos.
Not to mention the fact that he became the most muscular out of his brothers. To be honest, we would have been worried if the brothers were not able to lock down the color coordination all those years later. Red, red, green, red. It almost sounds like a military drill. It is not that difficult!
So Cheeky
Wow. Now, this might be one of the biggest gaps in years between photos on the entire list! These guys recreated a photo that was originally taken a whopping 35 years ago! Somehow, they managed to get the clothes dead on; they painted the fake mustaches with what looks like toothpaste.
And they are pulling the same cheeky expressions under what we assume is the same tree? We just can’t get over the helmet the one brother is wearing. Did the helmet get smaller, or did his head just get bigger? Or maybe it was a combination of the two. Who knows.
Good Going Mom!
This is a classic game that anyone who experienced had to have loved. Begging mom or dad to hoist you up on their legs in order to play the airplane game is a rite of passage pretty much all kids go through. This mom is an old pro at the airplane game, as she could lift both of her kids at once. She really had to trust her ability to balance them both and have the strong quads to do it.
She should have won an award for this picture and seeing as she was open to doing it again all those years later, with grown-up kids, make this even more precious. Not only should she be given awards for her airplane skills, but she should also be inducted into the Mothers' Hall of Fame.
Crying for Superman
While this is certainly cute, we are also concerned. We have no idea what the sister was crying about in either photo. In the top picture, it must have been some illogical feeling that randomly triggers babies to cry. Let’s face it; they will cry over anything. But in the second photo, it literally could be for any reason.
Maybe someone died. Maybe she can’t believe they have been wearing the same clothes for the last 30 years. Or maybe she just learned that her brother is not actually Superman. If we made that discovery that late on in life, we would also be devastated!
The Hair Salon Is Now Open
Being an only brother to three sisters has its pros and cons. One of the pros is that understanding the other sex is a lot easier for you as an adult. One of the cons is that you are subjected to many beauty treatments you may or may not want to be involved in.
Luckily, it looks like the brother in this picture isn't too mad about his sister giving him a haircut. In the recreated picture, however, he could have put a little more effort into trying to look a little less in pain. After all these years, his sister must know her way around an electric razor.
Daddy Issues
As little children, we more or less completely depend on the help of our parents. Whether it be to feed us, provide for us, clean us, or make sure we have shelter, we need them in virtually every single way. And this boy needed his dad’s help to have a drink on a hot summer day.
Of course, Dad was there to help him. And 23 years later, that same little boy has since graduated from college. And yet, he still calls upon his beloved father for help. This guy is such a humble character for doing this. Now that is just a beautiful thing.
We Bet They're Still Batman's Biggest Fans
When you are young, nothing beats dressing up as a superhero. This picture is proof! Who doesn’t want to have superpowers and save everyone from evil? Living through Batman is something all kids who love that universe have done. Anyone will tell you.
But what we are trying to figure out is, are the costumes in recreation the same ones from the original or did they find new ones? Either way, it is pretty awesome that they did this. The pumpkin is the biggest difference we can see. Other than the fact they are much bigger. Oh, and a few props from the background are gone.
An Animal's Love
The reason why this is one of our favorite photos on the list is the big fuzzy pup who grows into a big friendly dog. For everyone else without brothers and sisters, you can still make dynamite recreations with your cuddly friends, which is just as awesome, if not more so.
It also shows how important our furry friends are in our lives and how they shape the way we grow up. This puppy looks so sweet in the original, and just as much in the recreation. You can see from the look on their faces that they have had great adventures together.
Chips Ahoy!
Anyone who has siblings knows that going to fast food restaurants is one of the cornerstones of their shared childhood experience. Your parents are tired of your shenanigans. And in order to appease your begging and annoying ways, they take you, your brothers, and your sisters to a trash food joint.
Take these guys, for example, who can be seen at their favorite burger place, Burger King. We have a feeling that they’re not actually brothers because they look nothing alike. Nevertheless, they are still sipping Sprites, pulling silly faces, and sticking French fries up their noses until this very day!
Best Friends, Assemble!
Friends always have a moment in their history when they look at each other and think to themselves, “you know, we are a really awesome team and can take on the world!” They develop this sort of superhero team complex and decide to pose as if they were The Avengers in front of the camera.
That’s exactly what this group of friends did while out on a walk through the woods. And it seems like this identity crisis carried on well into their 20s, as they managed to pull off the exact same pose. Truth be told, the blonde one in the middle looks exactly the same as she did when they first took the photo.
The Leaves of Time
Or maybe it’s the sands of time? Whatever the case may be, we love the fall as much as the next person. There’s nothing quite like seeing all of those perished leaves collapse to the ground. They end up being all kinds of colors. But you know what’s even more appealing? Especially as a kid?
That’s right, folks; finding a huge pile of leaves and burying yourself in it with your siblings. This pair of sisters did just that back in the day. And old habits die hard, as they continued to recreate that exact image, many falls later. They even got the same clothes for the occasion.
We Like Long Shorts!
There’s something just inherently funny about pulling up your pants to above your belly button. It just looks weird, and we’re all for it. This trio of brothers was having a jolly old time in the sun all those years ago. We guess they were having some kind of water fight based on the fact that there’s a hose in both photos.
We like how the grass in the field also matured along with the humans. It’s that kind of attention to detail that we really appreciate. Apparently, they made their mother laugh so hard when she saw the recreation, and it’s not hard to see why!
Bathtub Time Machine
We have a theory about these two photos, and it’s a bit bizarre, so bear with us: It’s almost as if the brothers jumped into the tub back in the 90s; the mother took the photo, and as soon as the flash went off, it triggered some kind of time travel mechanism, and the brothers grew by 25 years in an instant!
The only problem is that the four brothers got a bit too big for the tub. We’re also curious to know what happened to the dinosaur toys. Did they just vanish? Or did the brother on the right sit on them by accident?
Big Sis Becomes Little Sis
First and foremost, we think it’s fair to say that these siblings completely changed over the years. They look nothing like they did back in 1988. The recreation photo was actually taken in 2015. So, they’re even older now! Back then, it was clear that the sister was the oldest. But as the years progressed, the brothers completely outgrew her.
Now she’s the smallest of them all! And yet, she was still committed enough to hold her baby brother and display a facial expression of pure joy. Looks like the topless brother still didn’t finish that book he started way back when!
Some Things Have Changed
In 2011, these three sisters and one brother all reunited for Thanksgiving and decided to reenact a photo taken back in 1993. But as you can see, the order in height completely changes over the course of the 18 years. So now, it’s difficult to work out who’s the youngest and who’s the oldest.
But at least we know who the brother is after all this time. The fact though, that they decided to change up the photo uniform kind of grinds our gears a little. Was it really too much work to look for some light pairs of jeans and some turquoise shirts?
The Dynamic Duo
Siblings are awesome sometimes, let’s face it. And this brother and sister never skipped a beat. From the original photo, you can tell that the sister cared so deeply for her baby brother from day one. And it seems like that unconditional love never disappeared, as demonstrated in the second photo.
They are just as happy now as they were when they took the original. And we appreciate that they kept the attire as similar as possible. This is always a welcome feature. It is as if the sister’s wearing the exact same headband — she just ended up outgrowing it.
Who’s the Sidekick?
When we’re kids, we have amazing imaginations and are just full to the brim with great ideas. This can include wild and wacky characters that we want to dress up as with our best friends. Take these guys, for example, who developed into original characters – Tiger Boy and the Blue Diamond.
But there’s something we noticed about the two photos. It is almost as if they just kept the face paint on for decades, never took a shower, and it just gradually faded away over time. You know, it may just be a perfect analogy for life, in general.
A Mini Adventure
There’s nothing quite like going out with your child. Every day feels like a new adventure with unlimited possibilities. That’s exactly how this happy dad felt when he took his son out on this cool three-wheel Honda bike back in 1986.
Fast forward to 2011, and the dad’s son is all grown up, albeit still wearing a blue windbreaker and beanie. And it looks like they are still embarking on adventures on the very same Honda 25 years later. Truth be told, though, the son doesn’t look as excited about the whole thing as he used to. His dad, on the other hand…
I Love You This Much!
Not everyone is blessed (or cursed) to have siblings growing up. For those only children out there, if you don’t have siblings, then having cousins is pretty much the same thing. The only difference is that you don’t have to live with them all of the time.
So when this gang of cousins got together, they were more than excited to enjoy all the good things about brotherhood without worrying about the bad stuff. And they have reaped the rewards of cousinhood until this very day, apparently. The presents just keep coming in every year! You can feel the love in the room.
Spot the Differences
When there is a 35-year gap between an original photo and the recreation photo, you just know that there is some history there in between. In this case, the original was taken back in the mid-to-late 80s, while the recreation was taken in 2021. According to the person who took the photo, the red and gray playground in both photos is the exact same one.
The green lawnmower they’re using is the same, although it doesn’t work anymore in the second photo. In terms of changes, the birch tree from the original had since been cut down and a new playground next to the old one had also been built.
Beach Time!
There is nothing quite like going to the beach with your loved ones. It’s fun when you’re older and it’s definitely fun when you’re at the early stages of your life. This group of sisters absolutely loved going to the beach in Hawaii back when they were little girls in 1991.
And in the present (2022), they managed to find themselves at the exact same beach in Hawaii, wearing very similar clothes, posing in very similar ways, and taking a recreated photo for the ages. The bond between sisters is absolutely unbreakable and these two photos perfectly encapsulate this idea.
Happy Father’s Day!
First and foremost, going fishing with your son is one of the great pleasures of many fathers around the world. After all, you know what they say – give a man a fish, and it lasts them a day. Teach a man to fish, and it lasts a lifetime.
That phrase is even more powerful when fathers and sons are concerned. This dad didn’t just have the pleasure of taking his son fishing as often as he'd have liked, but he was able to do it on Father’s Day, of all days. And many years later, they ended up doing the exact same thing. The dad’s even wearing the same cap.
Birthday Bother
Sometimes, kids can still be unhappy during what are supposed to be the happiest days of their lives – their birthdays. They could get all kinds of great presents, have a wonderful party, and celebrate in all kinds of amazing ways, but if one thing doesn’t go their way, it could ruin the entire occasion.
That seemed to happen to this birthday boy on both his 5th and 34th birthdays. He even had the exact same birthday hat designed for him. How could he still not be happy? Well, we think we might have the answer – he was given fewer cupcakes for his 34th. That could explain everything.
The Family and the Furious
If you have watched any of the movies from the Fast and Furious franchise, you will know that Vin Diesel basically says that it is all about family in every single movie. Well, if we could epitomize that film franchise in a pair of photos, it would have to be these ones.
Here, we see a dad and his three sons aboard an impressive-looking Yamaha covered in a stunning yellow coat of paint. And it turns out that this family still has that same motorcycle today! And somehow, Daddy and the three fully-grown sons can all still fit on it.
Let’s Go to the Mall!
Going with your family to the mall is a rite of passage, or for some, a typical weekend activity. These siblings loved nothing more back in the day than to take the bus to their local mall, do some window shopping and enjoy the arcade games.
They would even get a group photo taken there, from time to time. Here is one of those very photos. We think this photo may have been planned though, as all the sisters are wearing matching denim jackets. What we love about the recreation photo though is that the brother's hair has switched from his head to his face!
Modern Family
According to the person who originally posted this collage, her husband and his siblings recreated a photo taken in 1982 for their parents. So, we assume that two of the siblings come from one of the parents and the other two are from the other parent.
This means that we’ve got a heartwarming stepsibling photo on our hands. We love the Hawaiian shirts and the floral dresses and how they stayed true to them in the recreation. Even though the sibling at the bottom still looks upset to take the photo, we assume he isn’t, and he’s simply trying to recreate the mood from the original.
The Secret Garden
What we appreciate about this photo more than anything is the attention paid to the angles that the siblings are sitting at. It makes the transition from the original photo to the recreation so seamless. And while the toy cars are obviously not the same, we appreciate that they are still designed for kids and that the now-adults look ridiculous sitting on them 13 years later.
There’s nothing quite like having some fun with your siblings in your garden. There’s something so tranquil and pure about it. That’s of course until the siblings start to fight and one of them gets hurt when they fall off their car.
Popeye the Sailor Baby
Full disclosure: we think this might be one of the longest gaps in time between photos taken on this list! A whopping 37 years elapsed between when the original photo was taken, and the recreation was staged. This little guy was dressed up as a sailor when he was just 2 years old.
Fast forward to the present, and that same guy grew up…a lot. Now 39 years of age, he grew impressive facial hair, lost his head hair, and pretty much his entire body is covered in tattoos. And yet, he still managed to capture the innocence he displayed so genuinely as a child.
Living on a Prayer
When you are young and new to the world, there comes a time when you start to think of your life goals, and you start developing dreams. Before you go to bed, you might put your hands together and pray to some kind of higher power to make those dreams come true.
These three sisters started to pray for the things they wanted way back when they were little girls who shared a bed together. And it seems like they are still praying for their dreams to come true today. That begs the question: are they praying for new dreams or the same ones?
Life’s a Beach
Don’t you just love going to the beach? The sand is so soft on the feet. The waves crash against the rocks and everything just feels free. It’s the perfect setting to feel at peace with your nearest and dearest, especially your babies. And these two just kept coming back for more over the years.
It seems like the dad in this photo peaked 25 years ago — he managed to get smaller by the time he and his son took the recreation photo. Either that or the son got older and bigger. We’re pretty sure it’s the latter. He couldn’t find a diaper that was big enough though, so he settled for the briefs.
Looks Aren’t Everything
From a really early age, we can be so concerned with the way we look. So much so, that we decide to cover our faces with pink paint. There’s also the chance though that this little lady had no cares in the world and was happy to pink up just for the fun of it.
We imagine that she grew to become more conscious about her appearance later in life. Nevertheless, she saw the funny side of the original photo and was happy to recreate it many years later. This time, she decided to pink up a lot more, wearing a pink t-shirt and pink pajama pants as well.
Tea Party Reunion
Isn’t that just the sweetest thing in the world? And literally, the sweetest! Don’t you just love it when a group of siblings decides to sit around a table and have a pleasant little tea party? It makes them seem so much more mature and sophisticated than they actually are.
These siblings were having themselves some lovely, iced tea parties all the way back in 1995. And yet, they were happy to carry on that tradition when 2020 came around. It just goes to show that you really can’t detach from your family. No matter how far you grow apart, you always come back together for some iced tea.
United We Run
It’s as if this group of siblings asked themselves, how can we make the most heartwarming photo of all time? They eventually came up with the answer – to recreate a photo they took of themselves running through their garden, hand in hand, when they were kids.
The organizer posted the photo online to celebrate three things: Cinco de Mayo, Happy Children’s Day, and it was their 800th Instagram post. Yes, they sure did have plenty to celebrate. And while the hair had either gotten longer or shorter over the years, these siblings still stand united, happy, and proud to be family.
A Recreation of Titanic Proportions
Now, this is a photo recreation unlike you have ever seen before. Normally, when you have a passion in life, it only grows exponentially. You move on to the bigger and better practices of it. Take these two brothers, for example. As you can see, they loved making ships out of Lego bricks back in 1998.
But as the years went on, they continued to build much more sophisticated structures, albeit keeping things naval in nature. The pinnacle of their powers came in 2022, when the same brothers had their photo taken, after finishing a Lego set of the Titanic ship. Now that’s impressive.
Half a Century Later
We don’t think we have ever seen a childhood recreation photo taken so long after the original. Believe it or not, but a whopping 55 years passed from when the first photo was taken all the way up until the recreation shot was taken.
In the first, you can see a proud mother, holding her baby boy on her lap, as he cradles his teddy bear and drink. In the recreation is that exact same baby, now a middle-aged man, sitting on the lap of his mother, who is now in the twilight of her life. Well, he’s sitting in an armchair, this time around.
Eat It, Just Eat It!
Typically, children can be really picky eaters when they’re young. It’s only later on in life that their taste buds mature, and they start to be more adventurous with their food. This photo perfectly encapsulated that phenomenon, as the father struggled to feed a kid during a camping expedition.
And he seems to be dealing with the exact same problem years later. His son is still picky about his food. It makes you wonder how they managed to survive all of those camping trips over the years. Respect to the dad for being so patient with his son after all this time passed.
Keep on Moving
As babies, it’s our parents’ job to teach us how to walk and help us get up on our two feet. Eventually, though, we need to move forward without their help and become independent individuals. This little lady managed to figure things out pretty early and it seems like she never looked back.
As you can see in the recreation photo, the clothes pretty much stayed the same, but the little girl blossomed into a fully functioning young woman. The world is at her feet, and she can literally do anything. Now if that’s not inspiring, we don’t know what is.
Things Do Change!
Back in the 80s, things were so simple. If you had some siblings, at some point you all suited up, stood in front of a generic background and had a photo of you taken in a pretty conventional configuration: tallest siblings at the back, shortest at the front. Simple!
Well, if you try to recreate that photo a few decades later, there’s a chance that it might not be so easy to make everything a carbon copy. Especially since some of the smallest siblings end up becoming some of the biggest. We’re looking at you, bottom left brother. You really grew over the years!
The Big Baby
It is in our nature to be parental from a very early age. This is definitely escalated if you have a sibling who is much younger than you. Let’s say you’re 10 years old, and your parents recently had another baby. You might be inclined to look at that baby more like a little niece or nephew than as an equal.
You want to hold them, take care of them, and make sure that they have everything they need. In this recreation, you can clearly see that these four siblings were more like crazy uncles and aunts for the youngest, who is basically just a big baby until this very day.
So Cool
Ah, the popsicle. The ultimate deterrent to bad behavior and the messiest treat on a hot summer’s day. If your kids are misbehaving, just tell them that they won’t get popsicles if they continue. It works like a charm.
As you can see, these siblings made sure to be on their best behavior and reaped the sugary, frozen rewards because of it. And they have been on their best behavior ever since, only doing the right thing in order to have those orange popsicles. They even recreated a photo of it. This is one parenting tactic we can definitely get behind.
Bubble Bros
Ahh, the bathtub photo. It seems to be a popular opportunity to recreate this kind of moment for the new photo gallery. So many siblings out there seem to have no problem sharing a bathtub just for the ‘Gram! Take these brothers, for example.
They decided to try recreating this old photo they had for Mother’s Day. And this was the result! Two main differences that we can spot. The first is that the bubbles covering their heads are much smaller the second time around. And secondly, they have so much more body hair than they used to. Why? Because they got older, obviously!
Fast Food Dudes
It is an age-long question that we have never been able to find a definitive answer to. What fast food is better – pizza or burgers? Everyone has a passionate answer to this question. And of course, sushi has somewhat entered the conversation in the last couple of decades, but pizza and burgers are still the main contenders.
Even brothers can have very differing opinions on the matter. And by the looks of it, these two have always been torn on the matter. They’re not even interested in sharing. It’s a burger and fries for one brother, and a Margherita pizza for the other.
A Slice of Life
Some childhood recreation photos are so simple to perform because of the components at play. In this case, we have a little girl, who started growing her ginger hair, wearing a red and white striped T-shirt, holding half a loaf of bread. That is all you need for this updated photo.
And she absolutely nailed it! The only real difference Is that her red locks are longer. That, and the fact that she’s bigger. We strongly doubt that this is the same half loaf of bread that just looks smaller because the person holding it got bigger. But hey, stranger things have happened in life.
