As the world changes, so do our perceptions. That goes for Scarlett Johansson too. She hated how Black Widow was portrayed in “Iron Man 2” and wanted to make her a well-rounded character.
She wanted Black Widow to be a valued team member and stand alongside the boys as they took on the most dangerous villains in the Universe. Luckily her voice was heard because without her being an advocate, we would have missed out on one of the most remarkable heroes in the Marvel MCU.
Her First Role
Have you ever wondered where it all started for Scarjo? To find the answer, you must head back to 1994. Scarlett landed her first role at the age of nine when she played Laura Nelson in “North.”
Her co-star was no other than future Hollywood legend Elijah Wood, and the two are still friends to this day! It must be crazy to look back on photos and see the future superstars on set.
Katy Perry Wanted a Kiss
Even celebrities have Hollywood crushes. For Katy Perry, that crush was Scarlett Johanson. We can’t blame her. We also have a Hollywood crush on Scarjo. But her crush went a little further than ours because she has since admitted her attraction to Scarlett inspired her to write “I Kissed a Girl.”
This song would become Katy’s first hit song that propelled her into superstardom. When Scar was asked about it, she said she was aware, but her lips were already claimed by someone else. Maybe in an alternate universe, we get the power couple Scaletty?
Jack and Scarlett
Scarlett and Jack Antomoff met before either of them became famous. They were actually high school sweethearts at The Professional Children’s School in Manhattan and even went to prom together!
Sadly, their love didn’t last, and they broke up soon after graduating. That summer, Scarlett would go to star as Charlotte in “Lost in Translation” alongside Bill Murry, and Jack would go off to start the band “Fun.” Pretty incredible for two star-crossed lovers.
30 Seconds to Break Up
After her split with Jack Antonoff, Scarlett started dating Jared Leto in 2004. This relationship never seemed to have legs and the infamous photo of Jared staring at his phone while Scarlett kisses him passionately sealed the deal. They broke up soon after, and both went their separate ways.
Scar has since stated, “Jared was always unavailable,” as one of the biggest reasons they broke up, but we are glad she respected her own boundaries. Now she was off to find someone who would reciprocate the love she wanted to give.
Can't Go the "Long" Distance
Following her breakup with Jared Leto, Scarlett Johanson quickly fell for her “Black Dalia” co-star, Josh Hartnett. The pair got together in 2005, but their careers ultimately led to their demise.
They were spending so much time apart and not enough time together. It’s tough enough to handle a relationship in the same city, let alone when both people are jet-setting around the world to film. They broke up two years later, and although they still wanted to be together, their schedules didn’t allow it. Love sometimes just isn't enough!
Their Relationship is Dead…Pool
Little is known about how Scar met A-list actor Ryan Reynolds, but the two began dating shortly after Scarlett broke up with Josh Hartnett. The couple kept their relationship extremely private and were engaged within a year of dating. The two flew to Tofino three months later and eloped in British Columbia.
Sadly, the relationship was over as quickly as it started, as the couple divorced in less than three years of being married. On the bright side, they had an easy time scrubbing their social media of each other. It’s super simple when you don’t post any photos, to begin with...yikes!
Her Silver Fox
After dating younger men, Scarlett wanted to try finding love with a silver fox. Cue iconic actor Sean Pen. The two began dating in February 2011 and were VERY into PDA! They were often spotted kissing and holding hands in public.
Seems like that PDA passion fizzled out pretty quickly since the couple split after dating for five months. Sorry, Scar, maybe try a golden fox next time!
French Kissed
After having her fill of Hollywood actors, Scar next wanted to try her luck with a non-celebrity. Scar began dating French journalist Romain Dauriac in November 2012, and the two were engaged nine months later.
The couple eventually married in October 2014 and had one child together. However, like her past relationships, this one also ended in under three years, with Scarlett filing for divorce in March 2017.
Sixth Time’s a Charm
You know what they say, “sixth times a charm.” We hope that is the case because Scarjo is currently on her sixth man, "Saturday Night Live" head writer Colin Jost. The two made their courtship official in April 2018 when Scarlett brought Colin as her plus-one to the “Avengers: Infinity War” premiere.
They have been public about their relationship ever since, and in October 2020, the two got married in a quiet wedding! They were both thrilled to tie the knot, and we hope this one lasts. If they can get past the three-year mark, We’ll truly believe Collin is Scarlett’s “One.”
New Nickname
No one chooses their nickname; it’s bestowed upon you. But that does not mean you have to like the name. That’s the case for Scarlett Johanson because she hates her nickname, “Scarjo.”
She has publicly announced it as such and says it’s awful. We think we might be able to help. After a quick brainstorm, we came up with a few options: “Scarlejo,” “Scajo,” “ScarlettJo,” “SJ,” or “Scar.” Let us know which is your favorite, and we will send you the invoice later.
Controversial Cover
The 2006 cover of “Vanity Fair” sparked quite the controversy when Scarlett Johanson and Keira Knightly appeared nude while Tom Ford was fully clothed. Many conversations centered around sexism and how women are portrayed in society compared to men. These were fair critiques and raised issues that were often ignored.
With everything going on in the world today, we need to strive to make a better world for everyone. That means listening and learning from tone-deaf mistakes like this “Vanity Fair” cover.
Scarlett has a Twin?!
Yes, Scarlett Johanson has a twin! Not an identical twin, but a fraternal twin. His name is Hunter, and no, they do not look anything alike.
The two were born three minutes apart, with Scar holding the title of the older sibling. We are sure she holds it over him as much as she can and uses it to her advantage. We only wish he acted too. It would have made for another great Hollywood brother-sister combo up there with the Gyllenhaals, the Beattys, and the Fondas.
Let’s be Blunt
You might be surprised to hear that Scarlett Johanson was not Marvel’s first choice to play Black Widow. It was Emily Blunt! Scarlett was devastated after being passed over for the job because she wanted it so bad. She even went as far as to dye her hair red before the audition to look more like Natasha Romanoff.
However, on a stroke of luck, Emily had to drop the role due to scheduling conflicts, and subsequently, it was awarded to Scarlett who went on to reprise the role in nine Marvel movies!
Looney For Scarlett
We love cartoons, so you can imagine our surprise when we found out Scarlett was the first celebrity to make a cameo on “The Looney Tunes Show!” In the episode “Casa de Calma,” she plays “Starlett Johansson,” who appears with a bodyguard while Daffy Duck attempts to woo her.
Daffy’s attempts ultimately fail, and her heart is eventually won by Bugs Bunny. We will have to go and watch the episode because who doesn’t want to see Scarjo interact with “The Looney Tunes?”
The Most Magical Place on Earth
Do you know Scarlett’s favorite place on Earth? You may have guessed the beach or maybe the mountains, but both would be wrong. It's Disneyland! Seems that even A-List celebs get swept up in the Micky magic.
She regularly visits the theme park and even spent her 20th birthday there. One of the reasons she loves it so much is that no one recognizes her. They are too busy enjoying themselves to realize she is next to them.
Scarlett the Pimple Popper
If Scarlett did not become an actress, she confessed she would have loved to study dermatology. A surprising and very different career choice, but we can see her popping pimples for a living. She is apparently utterly obsessed with skin and religiously watches documentaries on the subject.
Eventually, she wants to release her own natural skincare line and dabble more in that interest. "Scarlett Skincare" does have a good ring to it!
Katsaridaphobia
Cockroaches have long been a phobia for humans. We associate them with filth, disease, and nuclear apocalypse, and those sentiments run deep. Scarjo is no exception to the rule because cockroaches are one of her biggest fears. But what caused this fear?
Well, It all started when she woke up one day and found a cockroach crawling on her face! Eww. We would still be bathing to this day if that happened to us. If we could blow them up, we would. Sadly, that won’t work because they would probably survive the bombs and then laugh as they scurried across our dead corpses.
Ornithophobia
Scarlett’s second major fear is birds. She says it’s something about their wings and beaks that make her uneasy. While we understand the cockroach fear, we have to disagree about her second fear. Birds are so cool!
They are the descendants of dinosaurs and are the animal that can mimic human speech the closest! Not to mention they are incredibly smart and were one of the first animals to be domesticated by humans over 10,000 years ago. She can keep the fear of cockroaches, but we will advocate our hearts out for the birds.
Black Widow is Pregnant!?
Scarlett was pregnant while filming "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Wow, that’s incredible! Imagine filming one of the biggest action-packed blockbuster films in history while growing another human inside you.
Everyone on set was aware of the situation, and they took extra measures to ensure she wouldn’t show in the movie. All of her stunts were done with a double, and CGI was used to take away her baby bump. Pretty cool what they can do with technology nowadays.
She Was TOO Pretty for a Role
We all know Scarlett Johansson is pretty, but most people are surprised to hear she was turned down for a role because of it. The casting director, Laray Mayfield, turned her down for the role of Lisbeth Salander in the movie adaptation of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” citing she was “too pretty” for the part.
We don’t know if Laray has heard of makeup because it can make someone as pretty or as ugly as they want. Just look at Christian Bale in “American Hustle.” It seems unfair to reject someone for something they cannot change.
A Global Ambassador
We all know Scarlett Johansson is famous, but some may not know she is also an advocate for inequality and injustice.
She is a former Global Ambassador for the international Organization Oxfam, which focuses on Wealth Inequality, Gender Justice, Climate Action, and Humanitarian Response. It’s great when celebrities give back, and we are glad Scarlett’s heart is as big as her notoriety.
What Goes Around…Comes Around
If you were to go back and rewatch Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around… Comes Around” Music Video, you’d spot a familiar face. That’s right, Scarjo!
She starred in it, and we had no idea until we rewatched it on YouTube the other day. It always surprises us to see famous people in their earliest roles. If you want a good laugh, look for Zach Galifianakis in “Bubbly Boy.” We were surprised to see him in that movie too.
Star-lett Johansson
Scarlett is not only loved in America but around the world too. In France, this love was forever immortalized in the song “Starlett Johansson” by the French band “The Teenagers.” While we can’t say the song is a timeless classic, it is worth a listen.
We recommend it if you have nothing better to do and don’t mind wasting three minutes of your life.
Singing Off Key
While acting has been Scarjo’s main career, she has also dipped her toes into music. In 2008, She made her musical debut with her album “Anywhere I Lay My Head,” and it went as well as fellow Avenger Jeremy Renner’s music career. That’s to say, not very good.
Although the record had big names, like David Bowie and Celebration, and peaked at 126 on the Billboard 200 list, it received mixed reviews. She did produce a second album, but, again, it didn’t perform well in public. Sorry Scar, but not everyone can be a triple threat.
King Neptune’s Daughter
Many actors and actresses do voice acting as well as in-person acting. It's a good gig that pays well and can be done anywhere in the world. Well, do you remember King Neptune's Daughter in "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie?" Maybe you should check the credits because Scarlett Johansson voiced Mindy's character in the movies!
We were kids when we saw it, and we were stunned to see her name there. Now, we wonder who else's name we would notice if we went back and combed through the credits of our other favorite children's animated movies.
Honey, We are “Home Alone”
“Home Alone” is a classic movie. Even if people have not seen the movie, they have heard of it. However, people may have forgotten who played Kevin McCallister’s older sister in “Home Alone 3”. That’s correct, Scarlett Johansson!
She played Molly Pruitt, and although she did not have much screen time, she was in the movie. Sadly, she did not return for the 2002 tv-movie “Home Alone 4.” Well, we think her career did just fine without it!
Hello, Mr. President
Scarlett was a long-time supporter of Barack Obama and backed him during the 2012 Democratic National Convention. She even thought their relationship was closer than most when they began emailing each other regularly. They would talk about her support of his campaign and their personal lives.
She even said it was refreshing to speak to a politician like that and felt a real kinship with him. However, to her embarrassment, it turns out she was actually talking to one of his assistants and not the President himself. We hope she can laugh about it now, but we are sure her friends tease her about it to this day.
TMNT
Everyone has a favorite toy, and we are sure you could name yours off the top of your head. For Scarlett, that toy was her beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, you heard that right, the TMNTs!
While she could have chosen a Barbie or Brite-Light, she picked the pizza-eating crimefighting turtles from New York City. This fact gives her so much more street cred than we thought she had. Ten points to Scarjo for her awesome taste in toys!
Stress-Free Bride
We understand weddings are stressful, so it’s no wonder brides can sometimes have short fuses leading up to the wedding. For Scarlett, that apparently was not the case. She just wants to go with the flow and was never one who wanted the full-on wedding theme.
We are glad to hear it, Scarjo, and we are happy the wedding days are stress-free. It’s probably easy to practice that when you’ve wed three times.
That’s a No to U from NYU
Getting rejected from any college or university is hard. It feels like a personal attack when a college says no after you put your heart and soul into the application, and Scarjo can relate to that feeling. She was rejected from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2003 and never fulfilled her dream of graduating college.
While she didn’t reach that goal, she took it as a sign to commit to a career in acting. Looking back, everything worked out in the end, and that rejection molded one of the greatest actresses of this era.
She Didn’t Get Parent Trapped
When Scarlett was younger, she auditioned for the lead role in Disney’s remake of “The Parent Trap.” As we know now, the part eventually went to Lindsay Lohan, something Scarlett Johansson is still bitter about to this day.
We have to say we can't picture anyone else but Lindsay in the double role of Annie and Hallie James. Sometimes, just sometimes, casting directors know what they're doing.
Scarlett Johansson, God of Thunder!
Scarjo is no stranger to tattoos. She has several, including a detailed tat of Thor's hammer. No, she did not get this tattoo after her many "Avengers" films. She had it before her time on set and got it in homage to her Danish father. He was an architect with Nordic origins, so the hammer fit well with the theme.
A pretty cool tattoo to honor your father. We hope she is worthy to Mjölnir; otherwise, that tattoo will make it really difficult to walk.
President Johansson
That could become a reality one day because Scarlett has expressed interest in becoming involved with local politics. She could join the great list of actors/actresses who have made the leap and become successful politicians.
Who knows, one day, she may be like Gerald Ford, who was able to turn his acting career into being president. Madame President, Scarlett Johansson has an even better ring, doesn’t it?
You’re Fired, Mom
It’s hard working with family, and we advise most people to go into a business venture with a family member very cautiously. Sometimes it can be great, but more often than not, it just makes Christmas super awkward.
If Scarlett Johansson had headed our warning, she might have avoided her awkward Christmas after she fired her mom as manager. The whole situation sounds dramatic and worthy of its own soap opera.
This One is Gouda
Cheese might be the most delicious thing on the planet. Whether it’s cheddar, swiss, or munster, they can all get in our belly. Scarlett shares this obsession with cheese. However, when interviewing with the “Daily Mail” about cheese, she mentioned that she loves smelling and watching other people eat it but does not indulge herself.
Weird, but ok. Everyone has their kink. We guess that just means there is more cheese for us.
Scarlett Widowed Black Widow
We thought everyone shed tears when Natasha sacrificed herself at Vormir to obtain the soul stone in “Avengers: Endgame,” but apparently, that’s not true. Scarjo herself said she was happy the character died and was glad to see her go with honor.
No! It can’t end this way! We don't want to be stuck with Hawkeye! Luckily Marvel blessed us with a stand-alone "Black Widow" movie and there is talk that there may be another one in the works!
Tokyo Tourist
Scarlett Johansson used to live in Tokyo, Japan! She moved there to prepare for her role in “Lost In Translation” and spent time living on Japan’s Hakkaido Island.
We are surprised she came back. The country is beautiful, the food is excellent, and the people are incredibly hospitable. If you haven’t visited yet, make like ScarJo and go. You won’t be disappointed.
A Spark From the Fire
Who would have guessed the late-night star Conan O’Brien would be the reason for Scarlett Johansson’s entire career? Not us, but that’s precisely who Scar credits with hers.
Conan gave a young Scar her first acting job at the age of eight, and the two reminisced about it on his show. It’s crazy how much you can affect someone’s life without realizing it. It just serves as a reminder to be kind to everyone because we affect others’ lives more than we ever realize.
Reading Your Future
Scarlett Johansson’s allure knows no bounds. She has been immortalized in film, pictures, and now a tarot card! Yes, a tarot card! Italian artist, Francesco Clemente, used Scarlett as inspiration for a deck of tarot cards he designed.
She represents the Queen of Swords, which usually means maturity and wisdom. Not bad descriptors for Scarlett. With her life experiences, the card seems highly appropriate.
Karaoke Queen
Although her music career never panned out, Scarlett Johansson still loves to sing karaoke. If we had her voice, we would also be singing anytime we could.
Yeah, she may not be music super-star level, but the lady can still belt it. Her go-to songs are all by “Fleetwood Mac”: “Landslide,” “Dreams,” and “Second Hand News.” We did not imagine her as a Fleetwood person, but whatever floats your boat, Scarlett.
Pulling Scarlett Back to Down Earth
It seems like actors and actresses nearly miss out on roles every day. What we didn’t know was that Scarlett Johansson almost landed the lead in Alfonso Curon’s space thriller “Gravity.”
She was in the running for the part until it was awarded to Sandra Bullock. It’s ok, Scar; you didn’t want that gig anyway. She just floats in space for two-plus hours doing nothing. It would have been a very dull job.
Double Oscar Nominations
Being nominated for an Oscar is a great achievement for any actor or actress. It’s the dream many of them have, including Scarlett Johansson. But after 20 years in the industry, she wondered if that time would ever come to her. Well, it finally came in 2020 when she was nominated for not just one but TWO Oscars!
The first nomination was for best actress for her role in “Marriage Story” by famous director Noah Baumbach and the second was for best-supporting actress in “Jojo Rabbit.” We know it was a long time coming, Scarjo, but it was worth the wait.
Tight Childhood
While Scarlett lives a lavish life now, she did not always live this way. In fact, growing up, she and her family were quite poor and sometimes relied on social assistance to survive.
Even now, she remembers their hardships and knows the importance of paying it forward. She now dedicates a significant amount of time doing charity work with various organizations and wants to give back to her community in any way she can.
BBFs with Chris Evans?
Ever since their on-screen chemistry in the Marvel movies, rumors have surged about Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson’s relationship. They always brushed it off, saying they were more like siblings than lovers, but with all the time they spent together, it’s no wonder why people asked.
Well, it turned out they were telling the truth, and they had no romantic feelings toward each other. Although, we still like to imagine what could have been.
Goodbye Giselle!
In 2009, Scarlett did the unthinkable and replaced Giselle as the face of Dolce Gabbana. Yes, the wealthiest and most widely known model, Giselle. We bet that even Scar would not have guessed she would have reached that milestone in her life.
Gladly, Giselle wasn’t put off by it as it gave her more time to focus on her business and spend more time with her husband, Tom Brady. Looks like a win-win for everyone involved.
Dropped from Mission Impossible: III
In Scarlett’s life, she has gotten roles from other people dropping out, and she has given people roles from the ones she dropped out of. Maybe the most prominent one is “Mission Impossible: III.” The blockbuster hit killed it in theaters and was a worldwide phenomenon.
It would have been cool to see Scarjo doing stunts with Tom Cruise, but sadly, scheduling conflicts got in the way. Although she can hang with the best, it would be cool to see her jump out of a plane.
Canceling Commercials
It sucks to be told no. It hurts, and when you're a child auditioning with thousands of other kids for a spot in a commercial, you hear it a lot.
Apparently, it took such a large toll on Scarlett Johansson that her mom stopped her from auditioning for commercials entirely. After that, she focused solely on acting auditions, which was a great choice, given how her career turned out.
Gym Spider
Turns out Scarlett Johansson had never set foot in a gym before her role in “Iron Man 2” as Black Widow. What?! She knew she was joining a superhero movie, right?
They are all ripped. Well, she had five weeks to get shredded and prepare for the stunts. Luckily she found a great trainer and now says weights and fitness are a huge part of her life. We hope she was better prepared for the next movie because five weeks is a very short time to get jacked.
Suing the Big Mouse
The move towards streaming platforms and away from movie theatres has Hollywood stars in a tizzy. This is mainly because they usually get a percentage based on how well a film did at the box office.
Scarlett Johansson found herself in this group when “Black Widow” dropped on Disney+ and in theaters the same day and decided to take matters into her own hands. She sued the big mouse and recouped some of the earnings she would have otherwise lost. Good on you for fighting and getting some of your money back!
More than a Body
Although Scarlett Johansson permeates pop culture now, there was a time that almost quit. She was working in her late twenties/early teens and was tired of being “hypersexualized” for her body.
She thought it led to her being typecasted and wanted to do various projects. She even contemplated switching to other jobs in the industry. We are glad she found her own route and stuck with it.
A True Pop Star
We all love popcorn. It’s the best food to watch a Scarjo movie with, but did you know Scarlett Johansson runs her own popcorn shop?! Yes, she owns and runs a popcorn shop in Paris, France, called “Yummy Popcorn.”
We can only assume the popcorn is artisanal and can compete against the amazing patisseries in the city. Looks like we will have to...pop in... and see how good her popcorn actually is.
Seeing the Character with Eight New Eyes
As the world changes, so do our perceptions. That goes for Scarlett Johansson too. She hated how Black Widow was portrayed in “Iron Man 2” and wanted to make her a well-rounded character.
She wanted Black Widow to be a valued team member and stand alongside the boys as they took on the most dangerous villains in the Universe. Luckily her voice was heard because without her being an advocate, we would have missed out on one of the most remarkable heroes in the Marvel MCU.
A Modern Marilyn Monroe
Scarlett Johansson has donned the title “Sexiest Woman Alive” twice by “Esquire” magazine. An incredible accomplishment that not many people can say.
Some have even compared her to a modern Marilyn Monroe— Although we think Scarjo is a way better singer! These awards haven’t made her lazy but made her want to hustle more. There’s no telling when her career will end, but with an attitude like that, she will be able to work as long as she wants.
Reading for the “Articles”
People read Scarjo’s “Playboy” for the articles, right? Well, they actually did. She was interviewed for the article after “Playboy” went non-nude and focused on better journalism. We are sure some people were disappointed with the lack of skin, but it’s a good read if you haven’t read it yet.
She discusses acting, her relationships, and monogamy in the interview. You get to see a more revealing side to Scarjo, even though the clothes stayed on.
Catapulting into Fame
While Scarlett’s first few films were box-office flops, she finally had her breakthrough with the romantic comedy “Lost In Translation.” The movie follows Bob Harris, played by Bill Murray, a washed-up American actor who is having a midlife crisis in Tokyo. He eventually meets Charlotte, played by Scarlett Johansson, and the movie follows their romantic journey.
The film came out with critical and commercial success and won an Oscar for Best Original Screen Play. Scarlett’s life would never be the same after that film, and she would go on to start in multimillion-dollar blockbusters later in her career.
One Wealthy Woman
In 2019, Scarlett Johansson was named the highest-earning actress when she brought in 56 million dollars in earnings from her films. That is 12 million more than the next actress, Sofia Vergara, who made 44.1 million in 2019.
Her biggest film that year was “Avengers: Endgame,” which brought in around 35 million for performance. She has consistently been among the top earners of actresses, and it doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon. Keep getting those checks, Scarjo!
Humble Abode
Mega Mansions are a staple for the wealthy. They show you’ve made it and can afford to live in luxury. Scarlett is no exception because her four-million-dollar home in Los Feliz is gorgeous!
It’s 3,500 square feet with a swimming pool and a skylit bathroom. But, probably the coolest thing is that it boasts a fantastic view of the Hollywood sign. Not a bad image to see first thing in the morning.
Left a Bad Impression
When Scarlett impersonated the Ivanka Trump on "Saturday Night Live," viewers erupted with laughter. That is, everyone but Ivanka herself. She was offended by the lampoon and complained it didn't capture her true essence.
Scarlett could not have cared less as the performance went on to be acclaimed in the media. She just wanted to shine a light on Ivanka's complicit actions in politics as someone who says she stands up for women's rights but doesn't.
Big Wins
Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to the acting podium as she has won over 23 awards and has been nominated 80 times for her work. This includes an Oscar, a Golden Globes, and a Tony for Best Feature Actress for her role in “A View from the Bridge.”
Pretty impressive for someone who is still young. We are excited to see her work in the future and see if she can win an Emmy and Grammy. If she could, that would put her in the upper echelon of Hollywood royalty.
A $43,000 Date
How much would you pay to go on a date with Scarlett Johansson? 100 dollars? Maybe 1,000 dollars? Well, during a charity event, a date with the actress was auctioned off, and the highest bidder paid $43,000 to go on a date with her.
Due to "scheduling conflicts" Scarjo never went on a date with the man, but the two were cordial about it, and the money still went to a good cause.
Colin Firth is Fabio
Fabio was known for his long luscious locks and for being a hunk. Well, when filming “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” Scarlett Johansson thought Colin Firth looked like the famous model and dubbed him “Fabio” on set.
The name stuck, and every time she sees him, she greets him as Fabio. Turns out he hates the nickname as much as Scarlett hates her nickname Scarjo, which says a lot. At least they share a love for hating their nicknames.
Crushing on the Hoff
David Hasselhoff has had many admirers. From “Bay Watch” to “Night Rider,” it’s easy to see how fans fell for him. Well, Scarlett Johansson was another person who fell under his spell. She admitted that she had a crush on the actor since she first saw him in “Bay Watch” and would love to date him one day.
That date never happened, but she did work with him on “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.” She was giddy as a teenager when she saw her name next to his in the credits and said it was pretty cool to work with one of her childhood crushes.
The Big Scarlett Apple
Similar to other famous celebrities like Jerry Seinfeld, Alicia Keys, and Barba Streisand, Scarlett Johansson also calls New York City her home. The actress was born and raised there and still has real estate in the area.
She recently sold her long-time penthouse and found a new 23-million-dollar home with her husband, Collin Jost. Looks like she won’t be leaving New York anytime soon and will continue to call the Big Apple her home.
Birthday Buddies with Mark Ruffalo
The probability of the original cast of “The Avengers” sharing a birthday is very low. However, they were never zero.
So, you can imagine the surprise when Scarjo and Mark Ruffalo found out they share the same birthday! Those must have been some “super” parties they hosted. We are sure the hulk “smashed” it out of the park. We only wish we could have been invited because we wanted to "Marvel" at the event. Ha Ha Ha.
Lady Lucy
Can you guess Scarlett Johansson’s best-performing movie as a lead? You might have guessed “Black Widow” or “Under the Skin” but they are wrong. Her highest-grossing film was “Lucy!”
The movie brought in 463.4 million dollars at the box office and scored a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. While some critiques were split on their opinions of the movie, it’s hard to argue with the success the film had after earning eleven times its budget.
The “Dead” Spirit
Now, can you guess her lowest-rated film ever? Well, it was “The Spirit.” We guess Frank Miller ran out of his directing magic after “300” and “Sin City” because this superhero movie was a flop. It only made 39 million dollars at the box office after its budget was 60 million dollars.
There were some cool visuals at points, but the clunky dialogue and incoherent plot lost many views. We are glad she bounced back with “Avengers” because we wouldn’t have wanted her superhero films to die like “The Spirit” died in theaters.
Scarlett the Sagittarius
Scarlett Johansson was born on November 22, making her a Sagittarius! The Sag symbol is an archer drawing their bow, and it represents freedom and liberation.
This seems appropriate for the person who embodies those values in everything she does in life. She is extremely supportive of her friends and family and will lend a helping hand when she is needed. We are glad we can count on her, and we are sure her friends and family are thankful they can too.
Showbiz Runs in Her Blood
If you ever wondered where Scarlett Johnasson got her theatre genes from, you would be in the same boat as Scarjo before her “Finding Your Roots” episode on PBS. When she sat down with Henry Louis Gates Jr., he revealed to her she comes from Danish acting lineage from her grandfather Ejner Johansson.
He was originally from Denmark and was a famous art historian, screenwriter, and director there. Although she never met him in person, it’s cool to know you are carrying on a family tradition.
Joining the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences
Scarlett was asked to join the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences in 2004, an honor given to those who distinguish themselves in the field of theatrical motion pictures.
She joined the same year as Sean Penn and Maggie Gyllenhaal and continues to be a member to this day. Now she gets to choose the next Oscar winner! Pick us, Scarlett!
School Days
Scarjo began her career at the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. This school has quite a history to it. Its hallways are decorated with numerous headshots of former students who have gone on to achieve fame in one area of society or another. These include Vera Wang, Uma Thurman, Carrie Fischer, and Giancarlo Esposito.
A rich tradition indeed, if we do say so ourselves. Now her portrait hangs on the walls and will no doubt inspire the next future star to attend the prestigious institution.
Walking on Fame
You haven't made it in Hollywood until you've made it as a star on the "Walk of Fame."
In 2012, Scarlett was awarded the honor of getting her own star on the "Walk of Fame." Sure we get it's a big deal and all, but we're not sure how honorable it is to be stepped on all day.
Smoking
Few know this, but Black Widow used to have black lungs too. Scarlett was a habitual smoker and could go through a packet a day!
She says she is now ashamed of her habit and wishes she could shield her daughters from knowing she did. However, now she has quit the habit and hopes she can be a better role model for her children.
She Plays on Broadway
While Scarlett is more famous on the silver screen, she has the chops to make it on Broadway too! She made her Broadway debut in “A View from the Bridge” and also performed in the play “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” in 2013.
She was impressive in both performances, and her acting in “A View from a Bridge” earned her a Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Play! Bravo, Scarlett, and break a leg in your next stageplay!
Scarlett's Siblings
Scarlett is no stranger to a large family and has four siblings: Vanessa, Hunter, Adrian, and Christian. All of them have spent time in the film and theater industry to a more or lesser degree and enjoy the process of bringing scripts alive to audiences.
They must get it from their grandfather. We are sure it bonds them together as they can relate to each other’s time in the industry. It’s nice to have someone that close who understands you on a deep level and shares in a career that brings them joy.
Tattoo Addict
Humans have been tattooing themselves since we have been alive, and they play a prominent role in self-expression. Johansson has nine tattoos of her own and loves them all. Each one carries special meaning to her, and she will probably get a few more before she is done.
Our favorite is definitely her lucky horseshoe tattoo on her ribs that has “Lucky You” written beneath it. It’s from legendary graffiti artist Fizi Uvtpk and done in the “Ignorant Style.”
