Australian actress Rachel Taylor blasted onto American small screens as Abby Sampson in the 2011 rehash of “Charlie’s Angels”. The character was billed as a ‘Park Avenue princess turned thief’ who would go on to be recruited by the mysterious Charlie.
The actress had made a dent in the Hollywood landscape before starring in “Charlie’s Angels”, having shared the screen with Shia LaBeouf in the first Transformers movie. In an interview, Taylor stated that she predicted the demise of the ill-fated television show. She believes the lackluster reception was a clear indicator of its ruin.
Jaclyn Smith Then
At the age of twenty-nine, Jaclyn Smith catapulted into living rooms across America as Kelly Garrett, one-third of the Charlie’s Angel's triad. Jaclyn would prove to be one of the most popular cast members, and she kept her role for a full five seasons of the show, the only Angel to do so.
After "Charlie’s Angels" ended in the early 80s, Jaclyn continued to bolster her acting career and appeared in several movies, even earning an Emmy award in the process. She further embarked on fashion and fragrance enterprises, both of which proved to be highly successful businesses.
Jaclyn Smith Now
While not as much of a household name as she was in the 70s and 80s, Jaclyn remains a figure in the entertainment industry and has starred in a number of small-screen movies and series. A tycoon in her own right, Jaclyn continues to control her fashion empire and has branched out into various other products such as furniture, linen, hygiene accessories, and even wigs.
Her annual turnover is estimated to reach one hundred million dollars. Domestic bliss seemed to be a trial and error exercise for Jaclyn; to date, she is now married to her fourth, and by all accounts, final husband.
Kate Jackson Then
Kate Jackson was already a heavyweight in the television world when she was offered the role of Kelly in the original "Charlie’s Angels". Kate opted to assume the role of Sabrina instead. Her celebrity credentials gave marketing leverage to the series, and she found herself cast as the leader of the secret agent group.
Kate would play Sabrina Duncan for three out of the five seasons of "Charlie’s Angels." The name, "Charlie’s Angels", was actually coined by Kate during a meeting with producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg after Kate saw an image of three angels hanging in Spelling’s office.
Kate Jackon Now
Kate Jackson’s star shone brightly after her stint being a Charlie’s Angel. But, a number of health scares caused Kate to take small breaks throughout her film career. Not one to rest on her laurels, Kate went on to be nominated for several Golden Globe and Emmy awards and was a force behind and in front of the camera until 2009, when she retired from acting altogether.
Thrice divorced, Kate’s current relationship status is unknown. Kate announced an upcoming biography in 2011, but the release has been delayed for over a decade.
Farrah Fawcett Then
Arguably, the most recognizable of the "Charlie’s Angels" cast, Farrah Fawcett gained international stardom through her role as Jill Munroe. Farrah’s popularity on the show was undeniable, so it came as a shock when she canceled her contract after just one season, resulting in a significant legal tussle between the actress and the studio.
Farrah found herself being the symbol of the 70s, and a single photo, in which she dons a red swimsuit and flashes her famous pearly whites, saw sales of six million posters. Her royalties from the poster earned her more than her "Charlie’s Angels" salary!
Farrah Fawcett Now
Fawcett continued to find silver screen success after leaving "Charlie’s Angels", accumulating six Golden Globe Awards and four Primetime Emmy Award nominations in her film career. Tragically, Farrah Fawcett is the only one of the original Charlie’s Angels to have passed away.
Farrah was diagnosed with cancer at age 59 and began a three-year-long battle with the disease before finally succumbing to it in 2009. Her fourth and final Emmy award was awarded posthumously in recognition of her work on her autobiographical documentary, "Farrah’s Story."
Cheryl Ladd Then
The departure of Farrah Fawcett meant the show lost one of its titular characters in Jill Munroe. The producers, trying to keep the character’s presence alive somehow, introduced Kris Munroe, Jill’s younger sister. Actress Cheryl Ladd took up the Munroe torch and stayed with the show until its cancellation in 1981.
A songstress at heart, Cheryl made the most of her Charlie’s Angel fame to advance her musical ambitions. Her single "Think It Over" topped the Billboard charts, and her album went on to achieve gold status. Cheryl’s acting ambitions have had her grace the small screen for over four decades.
Cheryl Ladd Now
A darling of American television, Ladd continues to make regular appearances on hit series, specials, and Broadway on the odd occasion. A true romantic, Cheryl has been happily wed to her second husband, music producer Brian Russell, since the early 1980s.
To add to her status as a “triple-threat,” that can sing, act, and dance, she is also an author. Her philanthropic vocation has seen her being an ambassador for the non-profit organization "Childhelp", a role she has been steadfast in for decades.
Tom Selleck Then
Before Tom Selleck became synonymous with the world of high-tech espionage in "Magnum P.I. " he was landing small roles, one of them being on none other than "Charlie’s Angels". Tom played the role of doctor Alan Samuelson, who was “cozying up” to Kelly Garrett.
The producers were experimenting with introducing love interests for the Angels. Sadly, the chemistry must not have been there, and Tom was let go after filming only a single episode. Tom has spoken about his fifteen minutes of "Charlie’s Angels" fame and stated that his firing was not personal but merely a business decision.
Tom Selleck Now
Selleck stumbled for a few years after "Charlie’s Angels" before seizing his breakout role as a private investigator in the groundbreaking "Magnum P.I." The impressive and elegant actor went on to scoop accolades and worldwide recognition for blockbusters and a slew of television roles.
The younger generation knows Tom from his co-starring role as Frank Reagan, the tough-talking, no-nonsense New York City Police Commissioner on "Blue Bloods." Staunchly patriotic, Tom has been staunchly active in politics and has been an NRA spokesperson. He found marital bliss with his second wife, Jillie Mack, in 1987, and the couple remains committed.
Tommy Lee Jones
Then Silver-haired, silver screen titan Tommy Lee Jones appeared as a blip on the radar when he had a guest role on the original "Charlie’s Angels" pilot. The fresh-faced, thirty-year-old Tommy played the supporting role of a villain who, upon discovering the undercover efforts of the Angels, threatened to undo their carefully laid plans.
Tommy would only appear a single time in the "Charlie’s Angels" universe, as his single-purpose character was not reprised for future episodes. Ironically, Tommy ended up having the lion’s share of screentime over future starlet Farrah Fawcett!
Tommy Lee Jones Now
Tommy Lee Jones won a number of awards in the 1980s for notable television roles. This propelled him into blockbuster stardom, becoming one of the most familiar faces in modern cinema history.
Heavily involved in the outdoors and country life, Lee Jones owns two ranches in Texas and is an avid polo player. So avid, in fact, that he provides support to the Polo Training Foundation. The thrice-married actor lives in his home state of Texas with his wife, Dawn Laurel.
Drew Barrymore Then
Drew Barrymore hardly needs an introduction. The beloved actress had been the apple of the cinematic world’s eye since her breakthrough performance in "E.T.". When Columbia Pictures undertook to film a modern-day reboot of "Charlie's Angels" in the year 2000, Barrymore was handpicked to play the role of Dylan Sanders.
The part of Dylan Sanders shared a similar function as being the “leader” of the Angels. The business-savvy Barrymore bought the screen rights to the "Charlie’s Angels" franchise prior to filming the blockbuster. This decision earned Barrymore around $120,000,000 in profit.
Drew Barrymore Now
While still being an actress, Drew Barrymore extended her Hollywood prowess beyond the camera lens and went on behind it: writing, directing, and founding the production company "Flower Films." Forever business-minded, the entrepreneurial entertainer owns a line of cosmetics, fashion, and wines.
Barrymore embarked into unfamiliar territory in 2020 and launched her eponymous daytime talk show, "The Drew Barrymore Show", which has seen tremendous success with American audiences. A devoted animal lover, the actress has used her status to bring awareness to animal rights worldwide.
Lucy Liu
The American actress found herself in leading lady status by playing Alex Munday in the 2000 and 2003 megahit reboots, making up one-third of the crimefighting heroines. The steely starlet was known as the all-rounder Angel and was an expert in electronics and martial arts and a master tactician.
An on-set spat with Bill Murray went down in Hollywood history when the two had an altercation due to an apparent snide remark made by the much older Murray, with Murray refusing to return for the 2003 sequel due to it. The two have since laid differences aside.
Lucy Liu Now
The ever-ambitious actress saw her star rise high above the Hollywood sign after her seminal big-screen performance in the movies. A highly sought-after actress, Liu has dominated the action heroine landscape and has appeared in over forty movies. The profoundly spiritual star has stated that a number of religions shape her spiritual identity, including Jewish mysticism and Buddhism.
Liu sits on the board of the Committee of 100, a Chinese-based foundation to strengthen relations between Chinese and American citizens. She is also a mother to son Rockwell, who was born via surrogate in 2015.
Cameron Diaz Then
Cameron Diaz was cast as Angel Natalie Cook. The blonde bombshell brought her signature happy-go-lucky disposition to the role. Angel Natalie Cook had the reputation of being good-natured and ditzy. Ditzy as she may have been, she was undoubtedly the most academic of the Angels, having held a job at the Swedish National Academy as well as a Ph.D. from MIT.
Diaz’s star power helped thrust the franchise into profits of over half a billion dollars and win over a new generation of "Charlie’s Angels" enthusiasts.
Cameron Diaz Now
Cameron Diaz held on to her title as the golden girl of cinema until her surprise announcement that she is retiring from acting in 2014. Diaz went out with a bang and left a string of blockbusters in her wake.
The creative spirit continues to burn bright, and the multi-talented performer has turned to writing. She co-authored and released “ The Body Book,” a New York Times bestseller that focuses on the link between body and mental health. She then followed this up with a sequel, “The Longevity Book,” which also saw it take first place on the New York Times bestseller list.
Demi Moore Then
Demi Moore, one of the most recognizable faces of the legendary brat-pack, returned to the big screen after a brief acting hiatus as the antagonist in the 2003 "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle."
Moore assumed the role of Madison Lee, a previous Angel that fell out of Charlie’s favor after she went rogue. The "Charlie’s Angels" reboot created several iconic film history scenes, and Moore certainly left her mark. In the now-famous beach scene, the then forty-six-year-old actress emerged from the ocean in cinematic glory, her tiny black bikini and washboard abs dazzling audiences worldwide.
Demi Moore Now
"Charlie's Angels" helped Demi Moore make a comeback. The actress would receive accolades for acting and directing and became a mainstay in the public eye.
The actress has stepped out of the limelight in recent years, avoiding the pressure of big-budget movies, and has taken roles in a handful of Indie movies. "Author" was added to her list of talents after her memoir, "Inside Out" took the number one spot on the New York Times Bestseller list.
Kim Basinger Then
Taking on her second only acting role, a fresh-faced, twenty-three-year-old Kim Basinger had a spotlight role in a single episode of the first season of "Charlie’s Angels." Basinger played Linda Oliver, who was victimized by a corrupt sheriff.
The episode revolves around the Angels going undercover and rescuing Basinger from the licentious law enforcer and ultimately having Charlie Townsend hire her as part of the team of the secret organization. Ok, the admin team, but it counts! Basinger made an impression on producers, and she was briefly considered to take over the role of Jill Munroe before Cheryl Ladd.
Kim Basinger Now
Kim Basinger would escape television bit roles and become a Hollywood heavyweight. Her platinum blonde locks would grace the leading lady role in several unforgettable films. A vocal and passionate activist, Basinger has used her celebrity credentials to raise awareness of animal rights, has been a spokesperson for a number of organizations, and even helped draft and take to congress an animal protection act.
The 2000s got a bit quiet for Basinger until she played the part of Elena Lincoln in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" franchise. The elusive Basinger has remained behind the scenes since her Fifty Shades appearance.
Sam Rockwell Then
Sam Rockwell leg-split his way into the "Charlie’s Angels" franchise as one of the most memorable villains, Eric Knox. Rockwell played the suave, slick antagonist of the Angels in the 2000 movie while also being the love interest of Dylan Sanders, played by Drew Barrymore.
The actor added to the anthology of iconic "Charlie’s Angels" scenes when he broke out some very unexpected dance moves: swigging from a can of soda, a cigarette dangling, and his shades hiding his glare, the actor let his feet loose before putting his hamstrings to work in a flawless split.
Sam Rockwell Now
The ever-versatile Sam Rockwell became a regular face throughout the years. While not recognized as the classic leading man, Rockwell has claimed his tinsel town colors as one of the rare character actors of modern cinema.
Rockwell won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2017’s "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and then he immediately scooped yet another Academy Award nomination for his role as ex-president George W. Bush in the biopic "Vice." The actor is wholly devoted to his partner, fellow actress Leslie Bibb, and the two have been inseparable since 2007, even though Rockwell vowed never to get married.
Crispin Glover Then
Crispin Glover brought his signature eeriness to the role of Thin Man in the "Charlie’s Angels" movie and sequel. Glover embodied the persona of the mute assassin so well that director Joseph McGinty Nichol gave him free rein to alter the script as he pleased, so much so that Glover removed all of the character’s lines!
Fans mostly remember Thin Man's character for his highly unsettling habit of ripping out handfuls of the Angels hair and sniffing it. Glover Curiously revealed that he took the role in order to fund his private film studio in the Czech Republic.
Crispin Glover Now
The highly eccentric Crispin Glover would be seen in a handful of mainstream roles, most of which are unrecognizable, such as Grendel in "Beowulf" and the Knave of Hearts in "Alice in Wonderland." He stayed true to his arthouse pursuits, filmed several independent movies, and released a number of books through his own publishing house, "Volcanic Eruptions."
The notoriously private actor has not revealed anything about his romantic pursuits, and his dating life has always remained mysterious. Glover splits his time between his 17th-century chateau in the Czech Republic and Los Angeles.
Kristen Stewart Then
2019 saw the Angels make a glossy, big-budget return to the silver screen for an amazing reboot. Kristen Stewart stunned fans worldwide when she took the starring role of Sabina Wilson. The high-energy and playful character was new territory for the actress.
Sadly, Stewart’s high kicks could not prevent the film from being a box office disaster, and it went on to be widely panned by both critics and moviegoers alike. Stewart revealed that she did not take it to heart as she felt pride in being part of the film.
Kristen Stewart Now
Undaunted by the scathing reviews, Kristen Stewart remains one of the most prolific performers in Hollywood today. Her portrayal of Princess Diana in the critically acclaimed "Spencer" garnered Stewart praise, and she found herself being nominated for her second Oscar, this time for Best Actress in a leading role.
Stewart identifies as bisexual and has been vocal in her support of LGBTQIA+ rights. The actress recently announced her engagement to American screenwriter Dylan Meyer, whom she has been dating since 2019.
Elizabeth Banks Then
Elizabeth Banks took on the responsibility of directing, writing, producing, and starring in the 2019 motion picture reprise. As if overseeing the entire production of the film was not enough, the ambitious all-rounder wrote the critical role of Bosley to be shared by herself and Star Trek stalwart Patrick Stewart.
Banks opted to make the film a follow-on to the 2000 and 2003 smash hits rather than introduce an entirely new storyline. To best achieve this, she roped in the skills of Drew Barrymore, who took being an executive producer on the film.
Elizabeth Banks Now
The tinsel town titan continues to fill her shooting schedules back to back. Banks and husband Max Handelman, with whom she co-owns the production house Brownstone Productions, are working on several projects together for both the small and big screen.
In between all of these commitments, Banks finds time to be a doting mother to sons Felix and Magnus, as well as participate in numerous activist causes. The politically active actress played a leading role in driving Voter ID awareness for the last American elections.
Ella Balinska Then
The leggy London local Ella Balinska saw her breakthrough role in the form of "Charlie’s Angel" spy and all-around femme fatale Jane Kano. Balinska, an accomplished athlete, had no problem assuming the role of Jane Kano in the film and was already well versed in fighting styles and handling weapons.
Prior to this, Balinska had a starring role in the short-lived television series, "The Athena", but, sadly, the show would not be slated for a second season. The actress followed up with a starring role in the indie movie "Run, Sweetheart, Run."
Ella Balinska Now
Ella Balinska continues to slowly make a name for herself in the world of media and film. Her athletic prowess has seen her become the star of the groundbreaking videogame "Forspoken." Her fighting fit form has made an impression in the action hero genre.
In the same spirit, she is slated to have a starring role in a Netflix-produced television show of the wildly popular videogame Resident Evil. Having a passion for fashion, the statuesque actress also lends her philanthropic skills to the British Fashion Council, assisting the council with making the industry more inclusive.
Bernie Mac Then
Funny man Bernie Mac was cast in the role of Jimmy Bosley in "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle", the sequel to the smash hit of 2000. The part of Jimmy Bosley was created to replace that of John Bosley, notoriously played by Bill Murray.
Murray reportedly declined to appear in the sequel due to the rumored on-set spat between him and co-star Lucy Liu. Mac played the inexperienced and hapless brother of the much wiser and experienced John Bosley.
Bernie Mac Now
Bernie Mac, having struggled for half of his life with sarcoidosis, tragically passed away at the age of fifty in 2008 from complications from the disease; pneumonia would eventually deliver the final blow.
His passing caused shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry, and two of his films had to be completed posthumously. Mac left behind a rich legacy of films and stand-up shows. His family opted to have a public funeral for the venerated comedian, and over seven thousand fans and admirers attended to pay their tributes.
Matt LeBlanc Then
Matt LeBlanc, riding high on the wave of his popularity as Joey Tribbiani on "Friends", was offered the role of Jason Gibbons in the 2000 movie reboot of "Charlie’s Angels."
Capitalizing on his Friends character, LeBlanc played a similar typecast as the obliviously endearing boyfriend of Alex Munday, played by Lucy Liu. The character saw the actor playing, well, an actor, and to add some true tongue-in-cheek, an action actor, at that. LeBlanc would return to reprise the role for the 2003 sequel "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle."
Matt LeBlanc Now
LeBlanc's seminal role in "Friends" helped carry his career further into Hollywood, and he eventually landed his first starring role in the "Friends" spin-off, "Joey." The show received a lukewarm response and was canned after only two seasons. LeBlanc, who had been dealing with a divorce at the time, announced an acting hiatus.
Five years would pass before the actor made a comeback, winning numerous awards for his starring role in the critically acclaimed "Episodes." LeBlanc played the title character for four seasons in the CBS sitcom "Man With a Plan" before it was canceled in 2020.
Minka Kelly Then
California native Minka Kelly played the grand theft auto professional Eve French in a 2011 television revival of "Charlie’s Angels." Kelly’s character saw her rescued from a life of crime by Charlie to join his spy agency and become an Angel.
The series of the same name as the original attempted to revive the franchise but failed dismally. The series was canceled a third into its first season, with Kelly and her co-stars left high and dry after signing a contract for at least thirteen episodes. Forever the optimist, Kelly expressed her thanks to the small fanbase through her Twitter.
Minka Kelly Now
The breakthrough success that "Friday Night Lights" brought Minka Kelly dimmed slightly after the failure of "Charlie’s Angels." The actress found marginal success in the following years and found herself in bit parts and more minor roles. This was all to change, though, when in 2017, she bagged the part of Dawn Granger in the science-fiction television series "Titans."
The fantasy show proved to be wildly popular, and the producers, recognizing Kelly’s role in contributing to the success, earned her a permanent spot in the following season. Kelly has been romantically linked to South African-born comedian Trevor Noah.
Annie Ngozi Ilonzeh Then
Texas-born actress Annie Ngozi Ilonzeh brought Charlie’s Angel Kate Prince to life in the doomed reboot of the franchise in 2011. The backstory of the character stayed true to the usual troubled background of the recruited Angels, this instance with Ilonzeh’s Angel initially being a corrupt-cop-turned-spy.
Ilonzeh would suffer the same fate as the rest of the cast when the network canned the show before the fifth episode was aired, citing abysmal ratings. Ilonzeh stayed mum on the abrupt termination of the show and quietly moved on with her career.
Annie Ngozi Ilonzeh Now
The unshakeable Annie Ngozi Ilonzeh found small-screen success in a variety of different shows after her unceremonious departure from the Angels franchise. The show had no impact on her prospects, and the actress landed recurring and leading roles in shows such as "Switched at Birth", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Empire."
Ilonzeh set tongues wagging when she was spotted accompanying basketball legend Shaquille O’ Neal to an intimate dinner in Los Angeles. While Ilonzeh offered no definitive reply as to the nature of the mystery date, O’ Neal insisted it was a business meeting.
Rachel Taylor Then
Australian actress Rachel Taylor blasted onto American small screens as Abby Sampson in the 2011 rehash of "Charlie’s Angels". The character was billed as a 'Park Avenue princess turned thief' who would go on to be recruited by the mysterious Charlie.
The actress had made a dent in the Hollywood landscape before starring in "Charlie’s Angels", having shared the screen with Shia LaBeouf in the first Transformers movie. In an interview, Taylor stated that she predicted the demise of the ill-fated television show. She believes the lackluster reception was a clear indicator of its ruin.
Rachel Taylor Now
Rachel Taylor had her hand in a few small productions since leaving the "Charlie’s Angels" show. The role in which she is most recognized remains that of doctor Lucy Fields in the medical drama "Grey’s Anatomy". The actress would hold a recurring role in eight episodes and became one of the show’s most endeared characters.
She went on to star in the Australian film, "Ladies in Black." Taylor followed this up with a starring role alongside Forest Whitaker in "Finding Steve McQueen", an old-fashioned heist movie. The movie tanked, earning a paltry seventy dollars in the United States.
Patrick Stewart Then
Distinguished actor Patrick Stewart, best known for "Star Trek", took on the role of private investigator John Bosley in the Elizabeth Banks-driven "Charlie’s Angels" 2019 remake. Stewart’s casting as John Bosley, the mediator between the crimefighting heroines and spy boss Charlie himself, was unique in that he played one of two Bosleys in the film, with the other being Elizabeth Banks.
Stewart's Bosley is described as the patriarch of the secretive organization. This leads some more conspiracy-minded fans to deduce that John Bosley was instrumental in founding Charlie’s Angels.
Patrick Stewart Now
Stewart, a true luminary of the screen and stage, continues to add a legacy to his name. The Shakespearean actor fulfills the mammoth task of acting on stage, on screen, and even doing voice acting throughout the year. 2022 saw Stewart reprise his decades-long role as titular character Professor X in the "X-Men" franchise.
The thrice-married actor wedded his third wife under the auspices of fellow English actor Ian McKellen. Never one to rest on his laurels, Stewart is heavily involved in numerous social causes and is an outspoken supporter of animal and human rights, and is a spokesperson for several organizations.
Djimon Hounsou Then
Beninese actor Djimon Hounsou joined the Bosley ranks in the 2019 big-screen version of "Charlie’s Angels." The 2019 reboot would see director Elizabeth Banks write in several Bosley characters, and Hounsou took on the role of Edgar Bosley, a Paris-based private investigator and mentor to Angel Jane Kano, played by Ella Balinska.
Hounsou steps in as the third Bosley of the film, next to Elizabeth Banks and Patrick Stewart. Hounsou’s Bosley remained noble to the Angels, and he would meet his fate with villain Hodak, the enemy of his protegee Jane Kano.
Djimon Hounsou Now
The Oscar-nominated Djimon Hounsou has opted for roles less serious nowadays than his breakthroughs "Blood Diamond" and "In America". The versatile Beninese actor can be seen in a string of big-budget blockbusters such as "Furious 7", "Captain Marvel", and "Shazam."
The skilled performer has also lent his voice to a handful of CGI characters, including Drago in "How To Train Your Dragon 2" and King Ricou in "Aquaman." Hounsou was romantically involved with model and entrepreneur Kimora Lee Simmons and even fathered son Kenzo Lee Hounsou with her until their separation.
Melissa McCarthy Then
Blink, and you might miss her! Megastar and funny lady Melissa McCarthy had a tiny bit part in the 2000 rendition of "Charlie’s Angels". The witty comic actress was yet to break new ground in Hollywood. She barely uttered a few sentences in her role as the receptionist for the nefarious, shadowy organization Red Star Systems.
At the time "Charlie’s Angels" was shot McCarthy had only appeared in a handful of sitcoms, usually in very minor roles. It would be a few years until she came to be known as a household name.
Melissa McCarthy Now
Melissa McCarthy hardly needs an introduction now. The versatile actress proved herself a box office drawcard and has been in demand since her unforgettable role as Megan Price in the 2011 comedy-drama "Bridesmaids". McCarthy’s influence in the film world has gone beyond being an actress, and she is putting her skills to use as a writer and producer on films that she's featured in.
McCarthy owns a fashion line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7, that designs clothing for and caters to plus-size women. She is married to filmmaker Ben Falcone with whom she has worked in several films.
Tim Curry Then
Seeing the name of Tim Curry might be a real timewarp for some fans. The highly accomplished English actor starred in one of his last big-budget movies as antagonist Roger Corwin in the 2000s summer blockbuster "Charlie’s Angels".
At the time of filming "Charlie’s Angels", Curry was best known for his role in the groundbreaking 1970s musical "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" as Doctor Frankenfurter. The iconic actor brought out his dastardly and humorous side to be a real threat to the crime-busting heroines.
Tim Curry Now
Tragedy struck in 2012 when Tim Curry suffered a major stroke. The actor underwent years of rehabilitative therapy and, with the aid of his family, kept this from the public eye. Now confined to a wheelchair, Curry still does what he was born to do – act. Although unable to physically perform, the multitalented star now lends his impressive vocal range to voice-acting roles.
He made a cameo in 2016’s "The Rocky Horror Picture Show Let’s Do the Time Warp Again." Curry made a very rare and unexpected appearance at a 2020 Democratic Party fundraiser.
Luke Wilson Then
American actor and all-around nice guy Luke Wilson struck gold as the object of Cameron Diaz’s affections in the 2000 reboot and its 2003 sequel. Wilson played the part of Pete Kominsky, a smoldering yet unassuming waiter that crosses paths with Diaz’s character, spy Natalie Cook.
Wilson had special access to the role as he starred in no less than two romantic comedies with Drew Barrymore: "Home Fries" and "Best Men." It must have also helped that Wilson and Barrymore shared a longstanding romance!
Luke Wilson Now
Luke Wilson is a familiar face for audiences worldwide and is primarily known for his comedic screen persona. Wilson has not landed a leading role in a few years and has been in the supporting actor column.
The handsome artist has recently expressed a few misgivings about growing older and admitted that he has become “panicky” about a few realities, such as commitment and starting a family. For the record, the actor has never been married nor fathered any children. Ladies, this is your time to shine!
LL Cool J Then
Rapper LL Cool J had already dipped his toes into a number of film roles before making a cameo in the Drew Barrymore-produced 2000 blockbuster. His brief cameo had him play Mr. Jones, a passenger on an airplane carrying a crazed bomber. Jones wrestles the bomber literally out of the plane where the other Angels, in the form of Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, apprehend him.
The now-famous scene has a Mission Impossible-inspired face reveal, as LL Cool J removes his mask to reveal it has been Angel Dylan Saunders, played by Drew Barrymore, the entire time.
LL Cool J Now
LL Cool J has been a mainstay in the entertainment industry for over thirty years, and he continues to add to his musical and acting portfolio. He has made guest appearances in shows such as "30 Rock", "NCIS", and "Hawaii-Five-O".
The celebrated performer has a reputation for investing in upcoming talent and founded a startup website that promotes aspiring musicians to upload their music and gain fans and potential opportunities within the industry. He received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and recently added his name to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tom Green Then
Provocateur and shock comedian Tom Green appeared in the 2000 film. Green played the part of Chad, the lanky, dim-witted love interest of Dylan Sanders, played, unsurprisingly, by his then real-life wife, Drew Barrymore.
The power couple shared literal chemistry on-screen. Green, at the time, was known for his outrageous pranks and stand-up comedy, which saw him draw both fascination and rage from audiences. He struggled to break out of his shock-jock persona into the mainstream.
Tom Green Now
Tom Green has forsaken the life of glitz, glamour, and marrying celebrities. The funny man now resides on a sprawling, one-hundred-acre property on the outskirts of Ottawa, Canada, where he shares a rural home with his beloved dog.
Green had a brief reunion with ex-wife Drew Barrymore when he appeared on her eponymous talk show in 2020. The divorcees had not seen each other in almost twenty years, but the respect and mutual admiration remained strong between them. Green, although having lived in the United States for many years, only obtained American citizenship in 2019.
Justin Theroux Then
Justin Theroux set hearts ablaze when he brought his Brogue voice and chiseled body to the role of evildoer Seamus O’Grady in the 2003 sequel "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle."
The character had a checkered past but even managed to score more than one date with Angel Natalie Cook. "Charlie’s Angels" put Theroux on the map and brought his devilish good looks and charm to a much wider audience. Theroux, at that point, had made a splash in the industry, especially with his role as Adam Kesher in "Mulholland Drive."
Justin Theroux Now
The multifaceted entertainer has brought silver screen gems to life both on and off-screen. Acting, writing, producing, and directing all come naturally to the highly gifted Theroux. This might come as no surprise as Theroux is part of a lineage of highly accomplished writers and filmmakers.
His cousin is the famed documentarian, Louis Theroux. 2021 saw Theroux having both acting and producing roles in "The Mosquito Coast", an adaptation based on the book written by his uncle, author Paul Theroux.
Shia LaBeouf Then
The 2003 rehash of the franchise brought a very adolescent Shia LaBeouf to the big screen as Max Petroni, an orphan who shared residence with the villain Thin Man. At the time, LaBeouf was instantly recognizable to children worldwide as Louis Stevens from the Disney Channel show, "Even Stevens".
His role in "Charlie’s Angels" would give the budding young actor room to flex his big-budget appeal, and he went on to star in his true breakthrough film, "Holes".
Shia LaBeouf Now
Shia LaBeouf never left the public eye since his explosion onto our small and big screens. The actor has often courted controversy and is known for his public outbursts as well as his groundbreaking characters.
LaBeouf played Sean Carson in the Netflix-produced "Pieces of a Woman." Unfortunately, allegations against the actor by previous girlfriends would see Netflix scratch his name off the list. LaBeouf made a statement acknowledging his problematic nature and publicly apologized, only to retract the statement a short while afterward.
John Cleese Then
John Cleese can be considered a founding father of modern comedy, and he brought his very fitting style to the part of Mr. Munday in "Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle."
The role had him act as a doting dad to Alex Munday, played by actress Lucy Liu. He remains unaware of Alex’s involvement in international espionage until Alex’s boyfriend, Jason Gibbons, played by Matt LeBlanc, spills the beans to a flabbergasted Mr. Munday. The actor did not have significant screen time in the film.
John Cleese Now
John Cleese, now well into his eighties, remains an active performer, and his influence on the world of comedy and acting persists. Cleese has spent the last few years touring and being very vocal about political affairs. The comedy actor emigrated to the Caribbean island of Nevis in 2018, stating that his voting power was “worthless” in England.
Cleese’s highly publicized divorces kept gossip columns busy for years, and the actor spared no punches as he described his less-than-ideal love life.
Robert Patrick Then
90s action baddie Robert Patrick played the part of corrupt United States Marshall Ray Carter in the 2003 installment. The Angels rescue Carter only to find out that he’s working for the rogue Angel and archnemesis of Charlie, Madison Lee.
At the time of shooting "Charlie’s Angels" film, Patrick was starring in smaller films, and his part as the dishonorable marshal seemed to revive his acting profile; he went on to have major roles in "Ladder 49", "Walk the Line", and "Flags of Our Fathers."
Robert Patrick Now
The American actor will always be famous for his role as the (literally) mercurial, homicidal android, T-1000, in "Terminator 2." The actor is a loyal husband and committed father and has been married to his wife Barbara Hooper since 1990.
He has had recurring roles in a variety of series and has no shortage of offers. He most recently acted in the Amazon-produced horror series "Lore", which has been greenlit for a second season, with Patrick reprising his role. The actor can also be seen as Herman Baggerly in the period drama series "Perry Mason."
John Forsythe Then
John Forsythe had a rather enviable position on the groundbreaking 1970s show as he voiced the mysterious Charlie Townsend, the covert boss of the spy organization.
Forsythe would go on to be the highest-paid actor for the show even though he made absolutely no on-screen appearances. At the time, he was an old drama actor in the world of sitcoms, and his pay demands were easily met. The actor would spend fifteen minutes a day recording lines for "Charlie’s Angels", whereas the other cast members would spend up to fifteen hours on set!
John Forsythe Now
After a long, illustrious career in the film and television industry, actor John Forsythe succumbed to a battle with pneumonia in 2010.
Forsythe’s presence would forever revolutionize the world of television as he brought to life some of the most memorable characters in "Dynasty" and "Charlie’s Angels." The actor left behind a trove of films and acting work. Passionate about horses, he was renowned for his involvement in the world of horseracing.
Jonathan Tucker Then
American actor Jonathan Tucker landed the role of stone-cold and Angel-hating killer Hodak in the 2019 film Charlie’s Angels. The actor, who usually plays the part of the good guy, dug deep to bring the callous assassin to life.
The character of Hodak drew inspiration from Crispin Glover’s iconic Thin Man villain, in particular by being mute and highly audacious in their violence. At the time of being chosen for "Charlie’s Angels", Tucker had already accumulated a notable presence on both the big and small screen.
Jonathan Tucker Now
Jonathan Tucker continues to spread himself among series and films, with the former taking up the vast majority of his career. Tucker has had recurring characters in "Westworld", "Snowfall", "City On a Hill", and "Monsterland", to name a few. When not filming, Tucker spends his time being a devoted husband to wife Tara Ahamed and father to two children.
In addition to this, Tucker runs Pegasus Fund, a non-profit that the actor founded in the mid-2000s. The fund sources donations to help underprivileged youth with educational ambitions and aspirations.
Sam Claflin Then
The poster boy for "Charlie’s Angels" villains was Alexander Brok, played by English actor Sam Claflin in the 2019 reboot alongside Kristen Stewart and Elizabeth Banks. The actor brought a sociopathic edge to the character and made the world of "Charlie’s Angels" a little darker than usual.
As the CEO of Brok industries, the character would do whatever it took to achieve his goals and forges a pact with an unlikely ally. At the time of being cast, Claflin had already gained worldwide fame by playing Finnick Odair in the trinity of "Hunger Games" movies.
Sam Claflin Now
Sam Claflin truly challenged his acting limits when he took on the role of a quadriplegic man in the romantic drama "Me Before You." The British bad boy then took on a notorious role in the megahit BBC series "Peaky Blinders", playing the part of a fanatically fascist politician.
Claflin fell victim to the Angels' divorce roster and announced the annulment of his and his wife’s, Laura Haddock, marriage. The two have two children together. Claflin was last seen in the amorous clutches of model Cassie Amato.
Noah Centineo Then
Then Heartthrob Noah Centineo played Langston (that’s Langston, just...Langston) in the 2019 action-comedy. Centineo was not enlisted to bring sex appeal to the show. Instead, his character was billed as a “handsome nerd”; that is, Langston was responsible less for setting the Angels’ pants on fire but more for putting them out.
That is until a certain Angel realizes her feelings for him. No spoilers, now! Centineo was already considered a teen idol at the time of his casting and was riding high on a wave of popularity.
Noah Centineo Now
Noah Centineo had a challenging and turbulent few years. While shooting "Charlie’s Angels", the actor admitted that he was undergoing substance abuse issues and had to seek professional guidance in getting his life back on track. Centineo was picked up to play He-Man in an epic modern-day retelling of "Masters of the Universe" but subsequently resigned from the role.
A philanthropist, the actor has invested heavily in charity work, even going so far as registering his own non-profit NGO, Favored Nations. The organization produces merchandise for social justice causes and donates the profits to a number of selected charities.
Shelley Hack Then
Shelley Hack has a number of accolades to her name. The strawberry blonde model strutted her way into the 1970s as one of the first waves of modern-day “supermodels.” Ironically, Hack would become the face of Revlon’s enduring signature fragrance, Charlie.
Hack auditioned for "Charlie’s Angels" after producers needed to replace the loss of Kate Jackson. Hack landed the role of Tiffany Welles, even edging out the competition in the form of Michelle Pfeiffer. Things ended on a bitter note after just a single season. The studio relieved Hack of her contract, much to her dismay.
Shelley Hack Now
Shelley Hack has appeared in many films and stage plays throughout her forty years in the entertainment industry. She gained prominence in the 1980s, acting alongside Hollywood heavyweights such as Robert De Niro. Hack fell short of establishing herself as a leading lady and would appear in made-for-television movies.
She has been married to her husband Harry Winer since 1990, and the power couple co-own a production company, "Smash Media Productions." The media house has produced films starring Ruby Rose and Aaron Eckhart.
Craig T Nelson Then
The impeccably clean-shaven Craig T Nelson sported a beard for his role as a cold-blooded jewel thief in "Charlie’s Angels," the second appearance Nelson would be making on television at that stage. The cameo would be one of the last before launching into his film career.
The following year, Nelson would share the silver screen with the indomitable Al Pacino in Norman Jewison’s "...And Justice For All", which placed the small-time actor squarely into the public eye. Nelson would go on to divide his time between made-for-television films and some of the biggest cultural films of the decade, including "Poltergeist."
Craig T Nelson Now
Craig T Nelson got himself younger fans after starring as Ezekiel "Zeek" Braverman in the critically acclaimed television series "Parenthood." Nelson would remain steadfast in his role as the affable family man for all six seasons.
Fans with a keen ear would also recognize his distinct, bassy voice as Mr. Incredible in the Pixar smash hit "The Incredibles" and its hit sequel, "Incredibles 2." Nelson has steered away from studio movies and has instead found recurring roles on a number of series such as "Young Sheldon", "Grace and Frankie", and "CSI: NY."
Kim Cattrall Then
British-Canadian actress Kim Cattrall is most famous for her role as Samantha Jones in the HBO comedy-drama series "Sex and the City." Thirty years before Cattrall would reach a worldwide audience, she made an appearance on another seminal television show — "Charlie’s Angels."
Cattrall played Sharon Kellerman, best friend of Angel Kelly Garrett. The Angels land up, saving Cattrall’s character from being assassinated by her lover. Cattrall would spend a number of years working through bit parts in television series, slowly working up to roles in Hollywood megaliths such as "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Bonfire of the Vanities."
Kim Cattrall Now
Actress Kim Cattrall has a varied career between the small and silver screen, but for the last few years has focused her skills mainly on the television industry. She has scooped five awards, including Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards for her role as Samantha Jones in "Sex and the City."
After years of living and working in America, Cattrall finally applied for – and received – American citizenship in the year 2020, citing voting rights as the reason for the application. Cattrall can be heard and sometimes seen in 2022's "How I Met Your Father."
Timothy Dalton Then
Damien “Ice Cat” Roth. If ever there was an ideal name for a villain, then English actor Timothy Dalton certainly scored it when he took on the role in a 1979 episode of "Charlie’s Angels". Dalton played the cunning, sticky-fingered thief Damien Roth for a single episode that even drew Farrah Fawcett out of "Charlie’s Angels" retirement to make a surprise guest appearance.
The character had a bit of a prophecy as it was described as “James Bondian.” Seven years later, Dalton would famously become the fourth actor to take on the role of James Bond in "The Living Daylights."
Timothy Dalton Now
The role for which Timothy Dalton is most celebrated, the elegant master of espionage James Bond, ended as the actor and the studio wrestled through a five-year lawsuit around his contractual obligations. This would not hamper Dalton’s further acting ambitions, and he was noted throughout the 80s and 90s for his leading man presence.
Dalton's voice has given life to the character Mr. Picklepants in the "Toy Story" franchise. He can also be seen on the small screen in smash hits "Penny Dreadful" and HBO-produced superhero series "Doom Patrol."
